  1. Of course you don't want big lorries going up side streets. But roads are roads are roads and if we pay road tax (and some motorcycle's taxes are higher than some cars!) we should be allowed to drive up those roads. What about the fact that I can use up say a quarter of a mile's worth of more petrol being forced on to main roads and convoluted one way systems in order to get home rather than going straight home via a few side streets. And the cars in those cases are using up more petrol and damaging more roads - instead of getting home in less time using less roads and less petrol, via a few side streets.
  2. 34E. Damn, sorry, wrong thread.
  3. My Mum thought opening a Vesta Beef Curry for Dad's dinner that night, was posh. Sadder still, my Dad thought so too.
  4. They were put in to "protect" (I think the right word) the lorries at Morrisons working on the water ring main plant. Which is also why the road humps were deflated. This from the original thread if I remember.
  5. Chef has left. Lawrence the landlord is having problems replacing chef, so doing most of everything himself. Give 'im a break. Nice blerk.
  6. How do you judge what works best? Seriously. Just open up more roads and then less traffic will be forced to go down Evelina.
  7. At the last Police ward Panel meeting at Harris Girls Sports academy School or whatever it's called, the police heard the stories from three boys who attended the meeting about the fact they had been mugged for their phones (the kids mug them then sell the phone back to them). I shall assume the police were informed, and I would strongly suggest you alert the local Safer Neighbourhood team about this in case it is the same boys doing the crime and even if it is not. Heart goes ot to the kids who suffer this. I might suggest that the kids attend the next Police Ward Panel meeting - they're made very welcome. It's on Thursday December 4th at 7pm.
  8. I used to work in an accOuntants and often missed the o. Hugely embarrassing. Hell is a boss who is a bad manager.
  9. ribit ribit bbbrrrrrrr
  10. Anything on YouTube?
  11. Clean cut though. Easier to stitch back on. So always have frozen peas in the freezer. Not for cooking, but for accidents. Tho I have just written "Kings A&E" under "Hell Is" thread. So be careful out there. Don't most household accidents happen in the kitchen? Now where's the recipe for the fish and cheese bake for tonight? I am always impressed at people who can remember recipes without looking, or who can successfully estimate what a pint of liquid or an ounce of flour (sorry, the metric equivalent) looks like.
  12. I did not know ALW owned SeeTickets. I agree their customer service is crap. I agree also it is best to go to the theatre if at all possible. Some theatres (Hampstead and I think Royal Court) do not charge for on line card processing although I use a debit card so maybe they do for credit card. So use a debit card. But then maybe that has its own problems if a show is cancelled you have to go to the theatre to get your money back?
  13. Oh Bellenden Belle but I am sure it would be the most beautiful onion perfectly chopped anyone in the whole world was ever presented with. I was partly forced into learning how to cook through being broke. I did do cooking at school (or domestic science and home eceonomics as it was called then). And although the teacher was a prize b!tch and sneered a lot, I did not realise just how much I had remembered. About ten years ago when I was really really broke I realised I actually had the time to think about cooking again, so decided to follow a recipe in a book I had had from when I was a kid. It worked. Whilst I do not have a nice fitted kitchen, I do have enough space to make things and sometimes it all goes wrong but it's going wrong less and less and I am feeling prouder each time. I admit if I had a full time job and enough money I probably would buy more ready to eat stuff, but there really is very little to go wrong in properly following a recipe and the instructions. As long as you know the terms like "cream" when it is used as a verb, or "fold" which is just plainly daft when used with mushy stuff that can't possibly fold! But it's the gadgets you can buy that make it more fun and encouraging. For example through this very forum I found a bread machine. Fabulous. And got a blender from someone for a fiver. Home made Smoothies!!!! And a coffee machine which makes cappuccino and espresso and regular filter, from eBay for ?40. And now there's no space in the kitchen to roll out pastry. Which is just as well. Hate pie making. But the carrot cakes are wonderful and I felt so proud presenting one to the Peckham Rye Park fete in September. I used to HATE cooking! Not that I do it every day though. Mmm fish cheese bake tonight I think.

  15. Speed tables are road humps?? I thought they were called cushions, or traffic angering measures! I also thought that councils had decided to rip out such road bumps or certainly not put any more in, because they are dangerous and don't actually contribute to saving lives. Why don't they just close the road altogether to traffic and strangle the life out of the fabulous shops along Evelina Road? It's the direction the Councils are going. Or they could just retarmac, and open up a few more roads for alternate use, instead of closing them all and forcing more traffic on to Evelina Road which is what has happened over the years. Has Fiona Colley voiced an opinion? Or has she not found one of her own yet?
  16. Phone 020 7525 2000 and ask for the Highways Department. Ask them about it. Don't expect the left hand to know what the right hand is doing, but that's the answer to your question. Oh - also go in to Southwark's website and find the relevant number there. And I ride down Ryedale a lot and have always thought what a bad road it is so if it's going to be retarmac'd that's a good thing.
  17. Well I can't help. I don't even know what a speed table is!
  18. The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas. Just finished REreading it - a novel with science and thought experiment and I may have to read it for a 3rd time.
  19. Not knowing the outcome of the court case yet.
  20. Nope, Lounge is wrong place for this thread. OFFERED is offered, no matter whether free or not. IMHO.
  21. Are you attending the Community Council that deals with it? There was a meeting last week.
  22. Quite a few years ago now, there used to be a large wooden shed in front of the Co-op area which sold fresh fruit and veg. Bring it back!
  23. That's awful! Were the trees showing any sign of being sick? There are some trees at the back of our flat that look a bit sadder each year and we think the tree surgeon (who comes round every couple of years) may cut them down next time. It will be sad to see it go. Were they healthy trees?
  24. ...looks in mirror. Can't see a reflection.
  25. Met with two lovely people from this forum yesterday afternoon. Discussed going to the EDForum meetings and then today see the photos and know why I would not want to go! Don't want a picture of my mush plastered up on someone's Flickr account ruining everyone's dinner!
