  1. Although I can afford a garage, I live on an estate where there was a motorcycle parking bay put in place but nowhere to lock it. So I applied successfully for the Cleaner Greener Safer award for a couple of secure rails and ground anchors to be installed at these bike parks, so bikers could lock their bikes to the rails and/or ground anchors by chains or D-locks. Depending upon where you live, there are a few bike parks around, and another one is due to go in the road opposite North Cross Road - because that excellent bike park gets closed out on Saturdays when the market is there. I raised this as an issue and apparently (due to motorcycle thefts in all areas) the powers that be agreed with my point and are any day/month/year now, putting another bike park on the opposite road (is that Ashburnham). I do hope you manage to get a ground anchor, but if you live near a bike park, or an estate that has one, you could park it there. I wish you well fellow woman biker! x
  2. Many of those needing housing are being sent to places like Thanet or Luton completely away from their support system, families and friends. As I write, the topic below this one was "Woman Looking In Bins". I guess her quality of life may not be too good. I am one of the lucky ones, own my home and love it and my support system for health needs are local and all in place. But it takes just one thing to go wrong in many people's lives to drastically affect it. Look at all the TSA agents and park rangers and all those who were not paid when Trump had a hissyfit. People can not afford to save much there, and many have been ruined. My own quality of life is enhanced massively by being a motorcyclist. Can't explain that but it is. All we can do is be together and try and be kind and non judgemental. Someone speaking to a homeless person in a kind manner can affect that person all day if they have no-one else. I read once of a woman who had few friends or the ability to make them, and who did not mind going to the dentist when she could or the opticians because in her whole way of her lonely life, those people were the only ones who actually touched her body. Can you imagine? We can't know what is going on in others' lives but we are educated and have the ability to think things through and try and make a difference. Everyone's quality of life can be even slightly enhanced just by smiling at someone and saying hello. Example, I saw a young black male a few months ago with a staffie that looked in a right state. Clearly it had been in a fight. I made a judgement that that guy was not responsible because of the body language of the dog. So I spoke to him and asked how his dog was. He said he had taken it from someone who he knew abused the dog. And he hated the judgement everyone else made, the looks, the attitude, because they assumed he was the culprit, but was so pleased I didn't do that. His dog clearly loved him and he loved his dog and they each improved one another's quality of life. OK essay over.
  3. Wow. 6 pages on this nonsense!
  4. How thoughtful! Thank you!
  5. Never heard of it. What's wrong with all the other forms of connection I wonder?
  6. Went there this evening. First time in years. Not the same vibe and I was saddened to see the balcony is now a block rather than the bars so you can not see down into the main area, nor look up from below to see if your mates are there, so it looks less friendly. However, to my absolutely amazement and delight they stocked my favourite ever beer since Dog Bolter. Belgian Fruit beers. This is a massive issue. I love that stuff but not keen on the pub anymore! What a conundrum!
  7. I already said that. That's an issue, that if you have to leave them because their service is so dreadful, you have to pay that monthly fee.
  8. Penguin68 thank you. And thank you Sue; I did not know this. I do try and keep away from Google (as a search engine anyway!) But it is an option maybe with BT I was not aware of.
  9. Not had an issue yet, but am looking forward to the need to go to new closer one in Nunhead. Do let us know what happens. Did you at least have a receipt?
  10. Oh neither of them mean you get free wifi! They pay Southwark and You pay Them!
  11. Indeed, Community Fibre wrote to me too. I don't know if they are sharing the cabling or if we are about to have TWO lots of cables and two great big boxes next to people's windows, or what. But as I said in my post, I would prefer Community Fibre.
  12. We must always remember that Southwark like all councils have had a massive amount of their funding cut by the government over recent years. Whilst that does not excuse much of their behaviour, I can sort of see that they are desperate to get money from wherever the hell they can. And the ironic fact that businesses close because of the internet and also because of the very high business rates Southwark charge, is not lost.
  13. Hi Dulwich Fox. 1.5mbps. Yes. That's right. 1.5. Copper wire and a long way from the exchange, and we bypass the cabine which is downstairs and provides Infinity to the other blocks in the area. Have complained to Ombudsman because we are paying for min 2! They said tough. I'd dream of 2. Lots of people and businesses have our email address. It would be a nightmare to change!
  14. Thanks for this. I used to love the Phoenix and saw it's arrival in 1980s when it arose from the fire of the station and David Bruce opened his Firkin branch. Oooh I can still remember the taste of DogBolter as we speak. I worked there for 3 nights but didn't last as my maths let me down and I kept shortchanging people. There was a model train track around the wall. It was a fab place. More recently we'd occasionally go in and it was either empty or KCH medics were noisily filling it. So sad to hear its further demise. It's such a beautiful building. Thanks for Heads up about the Grove.
  15. Really?? We are with BT and they are not upgrading us! I wish they would. We only get 1.5! We were told they'd have to dig up the road and that would be too expensive. Do you know how they are upgrading you? What technology? Google GFast. So sorry about the bullying about your shed.
  16. OK so here's what you need to know. HyperOptic are a South Korean company. They basically gave Southwark heaps of dosh and in exchange, they are installing their cables around Southwark estates. We have the choice of 30, 40 or 100mbps. Fridge size cabinets have been plopped on the sides of individual blocks, and obviously planning permission was waved through. Some of these blocks are right next to people's windows on our estate blocking views. Meanwhile, if you get everything from Sky, technically you should ask the council for planning permission which they would refuse, and you have the dish put up anyway, then good luck keeping it there. If major works happen on your estate as they are ours, then when the scaffolding goes up, the dishes will be put on the scaffolding, but when the scaffolding goes down in a year the dishes will be given back to the customer and not put back on the walls. So you will have to pay to put it back again, and maybe charged for not asking for - and being refused - planning permission if you do so. HyperOptic are not the only company doing what HyperOptic are doing. We also had a notice from a company called https://communityfibre.co.uk/ . This is apparently a not for profit company created by a bloke in his London council flat. I think I would prefer this out of the two. However, if you are currently with BT and you switch to any other company, BT want ?7.50 per month per email address if you want to keep your email address, which your whole world has on record..... I am a tad peeved at Southwark Council for accepting this bribe when basically it is taking away other choices (people now can't have Sky). I would be interested in hearing other people's opinions about this though. And happy to learn of corrections if I made any errors!
  17. I would genuinely demand my money back.
  18. Whereas soil samples taken from deep beneath the areas Jesus would have spoken his parables and so on.... Magic mushrooms. Kid you not. And of course centurions regularly marched through Nazareth. Mary (bless her(!) ) what an excellent way to turn things around!
  19. Indeed, and don't get us started on what Leviticus says you mustn't do. He must have had a horrid childhood, that guy. Also, the BBC not allowing atheists to voice their thoughts on Thought For The Day, Bishops' automatic right to sit in House of Lords, yada yada. ad1989 I have NEVER called myself a Christian. I am not a Christian, or religious, and I am sorry you have been brainwashed. Coz that's what it is. A mind virus....
  20. My favourite clip from a man who does divide people, but his heart is in the right place.
  21. Thanks you! And the very independent Southwark Homeowners Council.
  22. I got back home yesterday to a small parcel left behind a plant pot outside my door from the delivery company Hermes. I got a text saying I had signed for it, too. So someone could have nicked it. But actually I am glad it was left outside my door and to be fair to the delivery driver s/he hid it well. I agree that if it was Royal Mail and the card said Orpington that it may be another delivery driver from there on secondment.... Turn up with a good book at to read for the queue at Peckham Sorting Office and see what they say. I am so old fashioned. A Book!
  23. So does that mean we have to put up with people shoving pushing screaming shouting thieving bullying and generally exhibiting appalling behaviour no matter their age - because there might be something wrong with them? Those who have nothing wrong with them except poor upbringing - or indeed great upbringing and a sense of entitlement which they find they don't now have - will realise they can continue behaving like that unchallenged. No thanks!
  24. Interesting; I got nothing, but connected to a friend's connection of NotBT. Yet the hub be blue. Edited to add, It came back. Hope it does for you too.
