  1. Leaseholders CAB are in Market Place Southwark park Road. Google them and make an appointment. They will help.
  2. I would recommend you go to a professional agency. Are you willing to give this work to someone you do not know? I work in that 'industry' and you do not want to risk upsetting clients. Having said that 6 hours is a long time and no-one will do a great job for that length of time unless they're professional/experienced, and then they'll deserve more than a tenner an hour. Good luck!
  3. And also a "book" of remembrance in the shop?
  4. Then tomskip, you have no idea about how many and possibly "most" people in Southwark would find that ?16 is a hell of a lot of money. A lot of people simply can not afford ?16 to have something taken away and that is why there is or will be more fly tipping/dumping of stuff on pavements/parks etc. This is daft because of course Southwark would be responsible for collecting the dumped stuff. Please don't assume we're all as well off as you.
  5. I found that useful information to wrap the bread in linen Angelina; thank you! As for dried milk powder, this is in many recipes but is not obligatory. I never include it. I got my first bread machine many many years ago via this forum, and have never looked back. Not bought a loaf of bread since!
  6. Damian D'Arcy. Lovely local reliable chap but busy, because he is good. 07816 383 630
  7. Are you paying people professional rates?
  8. Don't forget the Fete on Saturday! And yes, hoorah the local Funfair!
  9. See my post above MirandaS. Take the pets out the room. It's smokey!
  10. I can second the use of the 'bombs'. Though had to get husband to do it. He said the fumes went up to the ceiling then spread across the room, so get out quick and shut the door for half an hour taking the pets with you.
  11. Always a catch. Still unsure what to do re which laptop but shall go to JL/PeterJones next week. Thanks all.
  12. Well thank you Pam! I do feel a tad guilty about JL. More than a few times have I gone in to see something in the metal-flesh only to buy it for tons less on line. But hey ho, I shall get some info and have a look.
  13. Thanks folks. I have never had an issue with Toshibas though I know some folks have, but it is old, though I have not heard a good word about Windows 10! Maybe I should wait for 11 or 12!
  14. They make money to create dropped kerbs. If they'll make money from it you can do it. I did not, however, realise that one needs planning permission to concrete over front gardens. Why is that allowed? I bet their Ecology Office doesn't like that. Why employ an Ecology officer then allow people to concrete over front gardens? As far as car reduction is concerned, they really will lose out both ways. The money they make from fines!
  15. Hi all, I can't do all the work on my phone and my laptop is about 12 years old. I have always had Toshibas and would be happy to continue with them. But they are not sold in the shops anymore; just in "Resellers"; ie. places like Computacentre on Blackfriars Road. Also, I have not experienced the delights of Windows 10 yet. Please offer any suggestions based on personal experience! Are HPs any good? Any other brands you could recommend? I need a good solid high performance laptop and would buy a Lifetime Office as an extra for my work. I am not a gamer but do watch telly on it sometimes. Thanks muchly!
  16. Understood. Thank you. It's a tough one specially when individuals are advertising for someone to help around the house... Thanks

    Ask Admin

Dear Ask Admin, could you please give thought to and reply to my separate post about applying for jobs when the poster says nothing about themselves, in the About This Forum area please? Ta x
  18. I was away for a while I am so sad to hear about John at Chener Books. He was SO knowledgeable and posted a lot on here about local history. He was lovely and funny and friendly and sometimes even gave me free old maps! That's so sad. I would have loved to have attended his funeral if I had been here.
  19. Hi. Sometimes I may apply for a job and in the description of the job the writer may say which company it is, so you can do a little research and at least know. I am, however, concerned about those who post job offers when we don't know who they are. Now one might suggest that we simply do not apply for such jobs which is a fair point. But some people including me are looking for a local part time job, are eager to try anything that we feel we may be right for. Someone posted a job on here a while ago that sounded perfect for me. A personal type of helper kind of job; someone to help with Airbnb, eBay, and around the house. All very cool and relaxed. I applied not knowing who the person was or where they lived or anything. I am not complaining that I did not get a reply; I am sure the poster was inundated. I am asking what the Admin and others may feel is the security issue. I gave a lot of personal information and have no idea what happened with it. In these days of GDPR I am wondering if such posters should be asked to give more information. I did not even get an acknowledgement. Again, I am not too concerned, but I think there is a safety and security issue here that might be up for discussion and consideration. I think that the forum moderators might think about requesting such advertisers to give their details in their adverts. What do you folks think? (And no, being a Humanist Funeral Celebrant is not a full time job!)
  20. Depends whereabouts you are of course. On the SE15 side of Peckham Rye Park and we are suffering 1.5mbps with BT. Sometimes it shoots up to 1.7mbps. But we are being charged for at least 2mbps. There was no room in the cabinet for us, and the sticker on the cabinet telling the world we are now on BT Infinity is incorrect. Some maybe on it. Not us. Oh and they can never tell you when they will improve things.
  21. It's due around 9.15pm for an hour. It's currently 6.15pm and there is thunder and lightning. Hmmmm!
  22. jimbo1964 there used to be one! It was fab!
