    Ask Admin

Dear Ask Admin, could you please give thought to and reply to my separate post about applying for jobs when the poster says nothing about themselves, in the About This Forum area please? Ta x
  2. I was away for a while I am so sad to hear about John at Chener Books. He was SO knowledgeable and posted a lot on here about local history. He was lovely and funny and friendly and sometimes even gave me free old maps! That's so sad. I would have loved to have attended his funeral if I had been here.
  3. Hi. Sometimes I may apply for a job and in the description of the job the writer may say which company it is, so you can do a little research and at least know. I am, however, concerned about those who post job offers when we don't know who they are. Now one might suggest that we simply do not apply for such jobs which is a fair point. But some people including me are looking for a local part time job, are eager to try anything that we feel we may be right for. Someone posted a job on here a while ago that sounded perfect for me. A personal type of helper kind of job; someone to help with Airbnb, eBay, and around the house. All very cool and relaxed. I applied not knowing who the person was or where they lived or anything. I am not complaining that I did not get a reply; I am sure the poster was inundated. I am asking what the Admin and others may feel is the security issue. I gave a lot of personal information and have no idea what happened with it. In these days of GDPR I am wondering if such posters should be asked to give more information. I did not even get an acknowledgement. Again, I am not too concerned, but I think there is a safety and security issue here that might be up for discussion and consideration. I think that the forum moderators might think about requesting such advertisers to give their details in their adverts. What do you folks think? (And no, being a Humanist Funeral Celebrant is not a full time job!)
  4. It's due around 9.15pm for an hour. It's currently 6.15pm and there is thunder and lightning. Hmmmm!
  5. jimbo1964 there used to be one! It was fab!
  6. I wonder if any children of all ages and abilities are consulted when designing big projects like this. It looks great but lots of blank areas too which look, well, unfilled.
  7. Me. And my 1st purchase here was a life changing first bread machine.
  8. I am currently on a long trip and sent thrm a postcard. They wont get it now! Pip the New Zealand woman was also brilliant. Nilesh was the Chair of the Police Ward Panel only a few of us attended. I am so sad to read this.
  9. It's fine thanks how is it for you? Richard Ashcroft was SO wrong; the drugs DO work.
  10. Looks like we can't say anything without using sarcasm. Well, that's me and my body stumped, inside and out.
  11. Did you sign a form agreeing to this effect when you signed up to the hygienist or the dental practice? Ask to see your form. Are there signs in the practice telling you of this as a warning? To be fair to them they are self employed and you just lost them a bit of income. But on their part why didn't they text you to remind you? They put you in a false sense of security that they would text you so that when they didn't it was not your fault if you were expecting to be reminded by text. I would remind them of all the above, and ask for a first strike as it were. If they refuse to give in, then find somewhere else.
  12. I love London. To its core. All the negatives in the post above / below / however you are reading this, from stringvest are of course possible but if you don't have much money then London's the best place to be if you can at least afford to live here, for the millions of things to do for free. Nothing like it. I was born here but grew up in Thanet and love it down there and go regularly, but could never live in small town ever ever again. Try very hard to stay. Your kids may thank you, but then you can make a decision later. Also, of course, the freelance thing could work better for you here? Best of luck whatever you do. There are an awful lot of people in terrible financial straits. Including of course the coastal towns; my mates' kids can't afford to buy places there either because of the DFLs coming down and buying up the property. (Down From London) Lots of luck. I never take my good luck for granted.
  13. Meeeeeeanwhile, does anyone have any memories of Dominica's Bazaar? Thank you. If not I'll close the thread.
  14. So Woolworths occupied the site first? Hmmm. I wonder where Dominica's Bazaar was then!
  15. Just a little bit of research for my funeral of a lady who used to work there many years ago. Any memories would be gratefully received. The way it has been described to me thus far was as the Biba of East Dulwich! I learned it was on Lordship Lane where Foxtons now is. Thanks folks! Edited to correct its location!
  16. Yes I too saw DKH on BBC London News, as a car slid at an angle down the hill. Quite impressive really. The problem with grit and salt is that the snow covers it quickly and makes it useless again sometimes and the council can not know exactly when the snow is coming and then coming again. So you can not keep blaming them. Nahhhh go on. Keep blaming the council. It's what yer do. :)
  17. @Penguin68 they are called SuperRecognisers. There was an online test and I scored very highly to my amazement. The Council can not afford CCTV; rather they would prefer to hand the management of parks to "Friends of...." organisations. It's a good rumour though. I also heard that the Council are thinking of spending millions to change their logo from the friendly handwritten style they have now, to a ComicSans style.
  18. I am so sorry to read this. I have just been awarded a Cleaner Greener Safer award to get some bars and rails installed on a motorcycle parking bay near me, so bikers can attach bikes with Dlocks and chains, but of course if people want to steal bikes they will. Also sorry to hear about the police not seeming to give a brown one...
  19. I have found two from an ebay supplier, a bit more expensive because my current squirrel proof bird feeders are not parakeet proof. Go on and look for The Nuttery and see what you like there. One has a lid as wide as the whole bird feeder itself so the nuts don't get wet and mouldy if the birds have found other sources... The parakeets managed to get their thin necks through the outer holes and grab nuts for its mates...
  20. If you find yourself with Infinity go for it all. We have been told about the new GFast thingy, which is something that can be planted within - say - a block which gives superfast lots of mbps. But BT Openreach - it's beyond their reach to get this to us in SE15 yet. https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/12/openreachs-g-fast-ultrafast-broadband-pilot-covers-390000-uk-premises.html
  21. Does anyone have a bright yellow paint spray can to spray around the edges of the holes in this area? Just rode home on motorcycle in the dark. Fortunately swerved around them but fortunately nothing coming towards me, or I may have had to have braked and gone into it. And maybe fallen off, hurt self, sued council etc etc. So if anyone can paint spray that'dbe fab. I have now reported this to council too.
  22. Couple of leading questions in there! Done.
  23. Done but yes still said invalid, but understand that's for Greenwich. Might concern some who do not read your message though about it.
