  1. Just met a couple who both work at Sainsburys East Dulwich. Dog Kennel Hill. As well as a recent post she told me a poodle was stolen the same day, and a Weimaraner was stolen a week or so ago. Clearly an easy target. Let's not always blame the owners? Let's blame the people that steal shall we? Also be aware when we go there.
  2. As a biker this could be really dangerous for us, and my husband and I always always always - when we see a nail or screw in the road - go pick it up and chuck it in the bin for the sake of all vehicles. Would recommend everyone does this; you will never know the damage and maybe even lives you could be saving by preventing an accident. Just pleeeease do that if you can. Such nails and screws are especially visible around building sites.
  3. Hi, whilst not on this block I am also a leaseholder. I would URGE you and all leaseholders to join LAS2000 (google it, volunteers work for all of us and ensure that the council doesn't try and take off us what they shouldn't (I mean, accidentally make mistakes in service charges....). It's not much per year and I have got back hundreds off the council in overcharging over the years as a result of getting help from them. LeaseholderCAB is also valuable. I had a case against the council which went to arbitration uncontested. Be an active leaseholder, by which I mean go to any LAS meetings and so on. Finally, I cover my pipes in the hall and the loo in coloured material all wrapped around it. Looks fab!
  4. Thanks for the UKMTP link above, I have joined. I am lucky in that I have a garage but Southwark could use more bike parks with rails for us to lock our bikes to. I alerted James Barber to the fact that the one on corner of Lordship Lane and the pub on Northcross Road is great but on Saturdays as it is closed to traffic there needs to be another nearby. We are never near the top of the list for funding though.
  5. I typed in Lordship Lane and it has given these results but you could type in loads of places and not just London. However, I was delighted to find a picture of my own block of flats in construction in 1938 (which means I have lived in it for nearly half it's life) http://collage.cityoflondon.gov.uk/quick-search?q=lordship%20lane&WINID=1484401438784 AGH I see many of the results are also of North London's LL! Sorry!
  6. Absolutely no point complaining to the Post office Management. It is now a limited company and is no more a 'service' despite the fact that many hard working posties are still nice and still consider what they do a service. You may as well complain about banks closing. Catching Forest Hill Road Post office at the right time and there's often not many people in there. Of course sometimes the queue can be out the door. But they are a lovely friendly lot specially if you smile and say hello.
  7. Our stop is a request, still. And many busses sail past bus stops when there is no-one waiting and no-one has rung the bell to get off. Which is fine.
  8. I think there should be more motorcycles parking bays with rails we can lock our bikes to, like the one at the Lordship Lane end of North Cross Road. There is a paucity of secure bike parking bays around Southwark. Indeed, when North Cross Road is closed Saturdays we can't use that one bike park. And the bike park nearly opposite the little Sainsburys opposite Nigel Road Peckham, does not have a sign saying it is a bike park so it is thus not a 'legal' dedicated one; all the taxis use it. We have had a bike park on the estate but no money for a rail to lock the bikes to, so useless really, Back to the OP. I am again sorry. I would be gutted!
  9. So sorry to hear this singalto.
  10. I would recommend you contact AsthmaUK charity (and become a member) as they were doing research into Buteyko and if I remember rightly they did not get enough proof it worked. Of course the problem with asthma is that once you have an attack you can not do breathing exercises because you can not breathe hardly at all and indeed asthma kills around 1500 a year in this country. I would seriously work hard at trying to discover exactly what your triggers are. I am not allergic to cats dogs horses grass housedustmites or any one of the things they stuck under my skin in the 60 odd pin prick tests I had as a kid where they told me I was allergic to everything. They did not put essence of cigarette smoke or stress and unhappy homelife under my skin. My point is it could be one or more of loads of things. I am now allergic to anything sprayed and the smell of furniture polish! If you absolutely positively sure it is the cats then sadly if you want to avoid a potential fatal asthma attack then there is only one answer. Dust is more difficult. No carpets of course, and clean everything regularly (if you are not allergic to the sprays and polishes - see above!). As well as your prescribed drugs (once you have got the correct ones for you) I would look into prevention. Do you really need to be cleaning the attic if you know you are liable to get an asthma attack? Wear the best mask you can get then. Please go to your doctor, or specialist asthma nurse (and remember not all designated 'asthma nurses' in GPs surgeries are necessarily specialist at asthma, they have just been put in charge of it because no-one else was available). If you are not happy get an appointment at KCH and ask to see the specialists there. Complications from some preventative inhalers can result in later life. I now suffer from one such complication but without these drugs I would be dead. But I do everything I can to avoid my triggers and do not apologise for having gone on so long here. It is not heresay or opinions you seek, it is cold hard facts and tested remedies, and mostly importantly, preventative strategies. Best wishes to you.
  11. What happens to young and visiting comedians later in life: There was a wonderful comedian from New Zealand who did a lot of ranting comedy poetry called Little Dave, and he came over in the mid-1980s and did a lot of gigs with the likes of Attila The Stockbroker and Nick Toczek. Well this year he won a literature prize back in his homeland.
  12. What a fabulous piece of work. Congratulations!
  13. The scariest one was when the Indian guy "from BT" knew my account number. I reported this to BT themselves. They do have a big team of people trying to deal with this. I was in touch with them for a while with a named BT techie who did find that stream and I stopped getting them. But then another company starts up and they do not know my account number so not much I can do about that.
  14. 16 years ago I rang regarding a part time job and the first thing he said was "Do you have children?" I said no and practically got the job then and there. And he was the funniest and nicest man I had ever worked for. The worst are a couple of occasions when younger people have asked me "Are you comfortable working for younger people?" I said probably but not for someone who feels it necessary to ask that dumb question!
  15. My police SNT officer emailed including the following: "T.the council are in the process of removal after their assessment by Environmental heath LBS.I know how frustrating this is for the residents. However, please be assured it is in hand but takes time due to legislation"
  16. Gets up off chair and walks to window and opens curtains. Presses numbers on phone to speak to a mate. Gets up goes out for a walk up road speaks to neighbours and buys milk. I am the smart one in this relationship between me and any 'its'.
  17. I live on third floor and still have to have squirrel proof bird feeders as the squirrels can climb up scaffolding even if it as the other end of the block, and sometimes even just planting and brickwork. I would also suggest the 'squirrel proof' bit being as wide out as possible as I have recently witnessed parakeets quite easily able to get through the narrower bit at the top and bottom of the smaller squirrel proof ones. I have three: one for nuts one for seeds and one for fatballs. The fatballs are more popular in winter but some birds still go for it. I also have 2 bird boxes up here but only one is ever used. We think the one that is not was a better location for them and more hidden. But we have show-offy blue tits who visit every spring and breed, and want a prime Nunhead location visible to all.
  18. May I make a suggestion? Could you amend your title from "....just now" to the date? Hope we find them. Have taken note.
  19. Hope he got back to those that love him. My mate had husky dogs and one got out the compound my mate at built at the bottom of his large garden. The others seemed content to stay put and so the dog that got out decided to stay with them too, albeit just outside the gate just to show my mate that they could go if they had wanted to.
  20. Me too. Took more photos today so hope to go visit crane guys tomorrow and ask if they'd like me to email them a copy!
  21. I shall. I think it is at the far end of Nunhead. There are lots of new buildings by the Nun's Head going up but not sure they require that length of crane. Yes, I shall get on me bike and explore. It's a lovely GREEN crane so should not be hard to miss. I live in a 4 storey block at the hill end of the park and have lived here 33 years. When I moved in there was just the Nat West, BT Tower and Guys Hospital pretty much! Holy tower cranes look at that! Can you see the man half way along? Quick someone. Photoshop it into a Bird!
  22. We live on Peckham Rye SE15 with a fab view of London. We woke this morning to this horror in front of our precious view of Tower Bridge. This Will Not Do! Etc etc etc.....
  23. My flat. Nahhh just kidding. Great views and lovely flat but not having you in here unless I can be the lead.... (!!)
