Southwark Housing Repairs - Legal advice needed
PeckhamRose replied to wonderwoman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Leaseholder CAB. Assuming you are a leaseholder of a Southwark Council Property. -
Is someone suggesting they have been parked there 10 years? Don't look it. Also, as someone who has a Virago myself I may have to go visit and see its condition!

Nunhead Choir are great too. And for those who work near Liverpool Street, I went to a choir show at the Bishopsgate Institute the other night, about 30 singers and a fabulous choir leader, were excellent. Hope you find one suitable!

I certainly think speed humps are problematic, especially as we have heard above for structure of buildings. You yourself may drive slowly but all these bumps like everything else, is done because of the actions of the few. And you would not want to be in an ambulance with broken bones going over the humps. Also, I had not realised that Cleaner Greener Safer council money could be used by the Highways department to make road bumps. Edited to add: since Southwark Council spent heaps of money it can't really afford on informing us that Southwark is now a 20mph borough, I think we can assume most have ignored this as people still want road humps. What a waste of money that was. I have found two roads in Southwark that do not have humps. I am not telling anyone which though. They may be the only two bump free roads left.

Someone to teach me how to ride a geared motorbike
PeckhamRose replied to CouldYouBenefit.'s topic in The Lounge
Please, I beg you, please if you are serious about riding a motorcycle, realise that you would be in charge of and responsible for not just yourself but everyone else you may come into contact with on the road. If someone goes into you, you can get badly hurt, if you go into someone, you can get badly hurt. Seriously, you want just anyone to teach you how to ride a geared vehicle? I expect from the phrasing of your question you are already a scooter rider (and I know that there are as big as 850cc scooters on the road) so you may have some road sense, but I would still strongly advise you train with a professional. Off to Metropolis you go. Ride safely fellow biker! -
phobic3000 looks like you could have saved lives today. Good for you. I hope you are giving yourself a good evening.

Ballad of Peckham Rye: Poetry and pints
PeckhamRose replied to The Dulwich Raider's topic in The Lounge
I remember the Kings On The Rye. They had church of a Sunday lunchtime in the early 1980s ie. a strip club. I think I only photo'd the exterior though.... I'll look for it and if I find it I'll let you know. -
I find Diane Abbott as annoying, ingratiating and generally as shallow and bleughhh as, say, Robert Elms. She is a shameful hypocrite. Incidentally, regarding her sending her kid to Ghana for education, I have heard of families doing this because they know their kids will be caned when they are naughty; something that is not allowed here (anymore)!

Over ten times my life has been saved from acute asthma attacks by the NHS. However, I know someone with severe mental health illness and the NHS is not able to help sufficiently. If you have a broken bit of body they're there for you till it's fixed. If your mind is broke, the NHS can't cope. The Community Mental Health teams are overworked to the max with high staff turnover and so there's rarely any continuity of care which is important in mental health care. I think this area of the NHS is shameful. And it's not helped by a government that punishes the sick with no benefits if they fail ATOS tests, which means they are often in more need of health care because they can't afford it. I know this is the East Dulwich Forum and not many of you will know of this side of society (she said, maybe sounding patronising without meaning to), but I promise you this happens. The NHS does waste money without a doubt. Management structures are out of control, and the Complaints System is woefully inadequate. The GP practices (and this was on the news this morning) are now all well over capacity with many GPs retiring and not enough wanting to fill the vacancies. What's so special about the NHS? It has a great history, and it maybe once was the best in the world, but society's problems are also the NHS problems. I also fear for its future.

Nilesh (the Post Master of the Forest Hill Post Office) is the Chair of the Peckham Rye and Nunhead Safer Neighbourhood Team Police Ward Panel. He is also a business man. This post office is quite likely to be the most honest post office in the entire history of the world..... But I am sorry your stuff has gone missing.

I ride at Dulwich Riding Stables. (Nags they are not.) Anyway, I asked today about this and they said that the reason they rarely go in the park is because people's dogs go for the horses and one horse in particular got bitten a great deal. So I am afraid it is down to people who can not / will not control their dogs. So now you know.
-
It still has it that the horses from Dulwich Riding Stables occasionally ride in the park. I will ask next time l go.

Clothes moths wreaking havoc! how to get rid of?
PeckhamRose replied to EastDulwichRose's topic in The Lounge
Strips are of limited use. Use the bombs. Go on ebay and look for clothes moth bombs. We have had so far this year hardly seen any so they must have worked when we bombed the flat last Autumn. I like writing the word bomb, I imagine CIA and FBI are now watching our little forum. -
Motorcycle theft Peckham Rye
PeckhamRose replied to Peckham Rye LPT's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James Barber we could certainly use more motorcycle parking bays (with appropriate rails to lock bikes to) around Lordship lane. The one in North Cross Road gets blocked on Saturdays when the market is in full flow and there is no other one nearby. Could also use one closer to the East Dulwich Tavern end, maybe down that little one way road that feeds into the roundabout. Bikes parking in the road with other cars are in danger of being shunted so it's not an option. Could also use one by the Post office and Co-op on Forest Hill Road, too. -

How come we suddenly have a Lee_Vodafone? It's his/her first post. Interesting. I too hate VodaPHone and plan to go to BT Mobile when my contract runs out.
