  1. The above implications are that Oyster PAYG does not have daily caps. It does. But I do not know if it has weekly caps too as I don't use it that often. Not going down the contactless route (I love cash folding green as the Americans call it) I shall always keep Oyster PAYG. When you forget to tap back in or out, then go on TfL website and log into your Oyster account (because you have all registered your Oystercards, right?) and see they have charged you lots, they DO give you the option to say where you got off/on ie where you forgot to touch in, give a reason, and they will refund. I have done this twice. Having said that, the refund can only be put back on your card when next you check in to a train station of your choice. As I rarely if ever use trains / overground /TFL Line, that is a nuisance. Just so' you know.
  2. Hi all, I would like to offer my condolences as it were to the terrible situation you all find yourselves in. Just proves that all the rules in the world mean nothing when it comes to any kind of company trying to do things for cheap when they think they can get away with it. I can not imagine how you all feel.
  3. 1) If the invoice is for an amount and is dated over 18 months after the first s20 then you don't have to pay. Search the eighteen month rule. 2) If you believe that the amount is wrong or unreasonable please go to the Leaseholder Citizens Advice Centre, 8 Market Place, on Southwark Park Road, Rotherhithe. In the meantime keep copies of EVERYTHING including every email they send to you and you send to them/ the council. 3) Ignore the idiots who have posted above who know not the facts of being a Southwark Council Leaseholder. If I had paid attention to grok for example, I would not have got ?2,200 off the price of what was asked of me for replacement windows; this ?2,200 was added outside the 18 month rule. 4) Become a member of Leaseholders Association of Southwark. Google this and find the address. Run by unpaid volunteers they have been very valuable to me in their sensible and well researched advice. Be business-like about this. Best wishes.
  4. To be fair, supermarkets sell stuff that isn't just all Cadburys and even Lindt. They're lots of expensive chocolates in those stores now from different companies. I have been known to make my own so as you're looking to spend lots of money on them I am happy to help you part with your money....
  5. Love this thread. Meanwhile, back in 1974 when I was very sweet and na?ve, I fell in love with Terry Jacks 'Seasons in the Sun', the B side of which was the achingly sad song about his dead dog, but was titled "Put The Bone In". I really had no idea.
  6. Whenever anyone has a cold flu virus then everyone says there is a bug going around. Always. And it shall ever be so. Specially with cramped public transport acting as a lovely petris dish for sharing and the pressures upon people to go to work when so ill, and adverts advertising not very efficient remedies so that people think they feel better when they are still ill, so they feel guilty and think they're able to do a day's work whilst all the time infecting more people at work and on cramped public transport. So that's why it goes around. Rant over :D
  7. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200440/garages/2053/map_of_southwark_garages The link above will take people to a Southwark Council website page advertising garages for rent at currently ?18.63 ish. a week. Just thought some of you would be interested as that is relatively cheap I understand. I am not advertising personally, and don't profit. But sharing publically available information as a result of a thread about stolen motorcycles.
  8. They are currently nearly ?19 a week but to be fair to Southwark Council they have a very useful website section which shows you where there are vacant garages, so don't understand why there is a waiting list. On Rye Hill Estate there are several available. Here is the link. You do not have to be a tenant of any estate upon which there are garages and now you do not even need a car! We think some are rented by private businesses which is a bit naughty but what do Southwark care if they get regular money. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200440/garages/2053/map_of_southwark_garages
  9. It is very difficult to prevent theft of a bike. It really is. If you can afford the current rent of just under ?19 a WEEK for a rented Southwark Council garage, your insurance will go down for sure. Southwark garages are there to be rented around the Council area. But I am so sorry to read these stories. Data tag and the best locks you can afford, attached to railings and so on is otherwise as good as it gets and they'll still cut through bolts.
  10. Seeing their website, yep, they can afford to pay actors!
  11. (I've emailed her those questions btw!)
  12. Wait, so you don't need actors, so why even mention that no acting experience is necessary? I mean, if it were, you would go straight to Spotlight / Casting Call Pro, etc, for professional actors. Right? So, what exactly are you looking for? Being professionals, as you are.
  13. So there should be cameras at every junction, traffic light, one way system, at the point of every instruction sign, every bus lane, cycle lane, and you seriously think that would improve things?
  14. Just me? Can't be. As I walked out again I saw the Apple logo on the door. I remember reading about this whole thing, but I am not an Apple customer and still can not work out how my phone's details were suddenly available to what I assume is the recently acquired technology in the shop, so that the phone was texted by Apple. Not got it on me right now but the text basically said that if I logged on I could pay using that system in that shop; ie Forest Hill Road Post Office. I still use cash!
  15. You can buy a set of cups which include the table spoon tea spoons half tea- and table spoons, half a cup third cup quarter cup at places like Lakeland, and ebay. I use these measurements a lot. Go get 'em!
  16. My body's going to be played with / I mean experimented on by medical students. Medical profession has saved my life and kept me going ALL my life. It's the least I can do after I'm done with it. http://www.kcl.ac.uk/lsm/study/departments/anatomy/lao/index.aspx
  17. dbboy thank you for doing that post; that took a lot of time. I think it has proven that the council can only do so much to find owners of various plots. If you own a plot in a cemetery do you think to inform the relevant local authority when you move? Are you sure anyone in your family would tell you before they die that they own a plot in a cemetery? We have to take responsibility here.
  18. Such was the success of the New Year's Eve at Dawson's Heights last night, with now hundreds of us enjoying one another's company, sharing food and drink, and no trouble, I heard they're thinking of making it a ticketed event. Nahhhhhh just kidding. That would be crazy talk. Happy New Year everyone.
  19. I do think we as a society have collectively more power than we realise but we're more insular now burying our heads into our phones. A woman on the 343 the other day, who looked and sounded to be of African origin (see? if I'd said "African" many would have said, "How do you know? Why bring up her race?") was screaming at her perfectly good little boy to sit and behave, which he was doing. And she yelled at him "Do you want another beating? Legs TOGETHER!" He looked absolutely terrified of her. And no-one said a word to her. I just said, "He's a perfectly good little boy! Why are you threatening to physically abuse your child?" She glared at me and he was terrified. Had I not been in a hurry I might have got off and followed her. If everyone on that bus, or at least more than I had stood up to this bitch, maybe she'd have calmed down. Maybe the poor kid had it coming worse because I challenged her. I'd recognise her again though. We just need to take collective action against this as much as we need to take collective action to support and encourage parents to discipline their kids. But that ain't gonna happen so I guess we'd better stop whinging about it and soak up the sad consequences.
  20. Blame the London Cycling Campaign... (I'll get my (motorcycle) jacket!)
  21. It was a prefab but of course the money will be for the land and a 'nice new' dwelling shall be erected in its place.
  22. Impressed! May ask if Nunhead and Peckham Rye ward have any!
  23. I just read in The Stage that Mountview Theatre school in Haringey are moving to Peckham, in new build on what was brown field site near Peckham Library. Can't work out where that might be!
  24. Just got some from the greengrocers on Evelina Road. Vine Tomatoes. Wonderful!
