  1. Thanks for this. We love our map, but have little wall space left!
  2. Crystal Palace was in a place called Upper Sydenham apparently; not Penge. Thanks for completing my list!
  3. Can't resist, sorry. The Postcodes define it all. If your address is SE15 you ain't in Dulwich. Peckham Rye PARK is SE22 Peckham Rye COMMON is SE15. (The Peckham Society get very excited about this when someone gets it wrong.) There are two roads called Peckham Rye: the East side is SE15 (odd Numbers) and the west side is SE22 (even numbers). Nunhead really should have been given its own postcode but of course it shares Peckham's being SE15. Meanwhile, postcodes go alphabetically. But NW1 SW1 E1 SE1 N1 (NE is outside of London) are the areas closest to the centre. But then they start from A again after a while. So you have: SE2 Abbey Wood SE3 Blackheath SE4 Ummm SE5 Camberwell SE6 Catford SE7 Charlton SE8 Deptford SE9 Errr SE10 Greenwich SE11 Hnnnhhh umm Se12 Lee SE13 Lewisham SE14 New Cross SE15 PECKHAM SE16 Rotherhithe SE17 um SE18 SE19 SE20 Se21 Dulwich SE22 EAST Dulwich SE23 Forest Hill SE24 who cares SE25 Lost Interest now.
  4. .... a small girl in the Health Matters shop runs in and says, "Mummy mummy I absolutely have to have more Vitamins!"
  5. Someone wrote "Bus Lanes are dedicated to buses to allow free moving public transport." That was my point though: around The Oval area and other stretches of road, busses now have to join cars and motorcycles on one lane while bicycles have a lane all to themselves. Somehow now even Busses are not important in TfL's eyes.
  6. I wrote to TfL and Southwark Council about this and at Community Councils asked about this. At one point when Mayor Johnson came in, he agreed the evidence (of tests on four major roads out of London, which Ken Livingstone refused to agree to because he was under pressure from the cycling lobbies while Boris ignored them and went on evidence from the trials) and made bus lanes open to us bikers. The London Cycling Campaign or whatever it is hated this although there was no carnage. But then along came a situation even worse than before where bus lanes are wiped out at major areas like Oval Kennington where the busses are in one lane with cars and bikes, whilst cyclists have an entire lane to themselves. This was ridiculous since bus lanes should be allowed to remain whether they accept bikers or not. Some councils around London and the rest of the country allow bikes in bus lanes. I believe Richmond does and much of Westminster, but get this: In Newham, signs on the road allow bikers to join cyclists at the head of the queues at traffic lights (can't remember the official name of that bit of road). Now most of us do that anyway. I do. And so I asked a police sgt once, that since Newham had set a precedent on this, would the police do us for doing this. He said he was a biker, he did it out of uniform, and since Newham officially allowed it he did not know of any officer who would bother with bikers who join cyclists at the section at the traffic lights. Are we all members of the Motorcycle Action group? Then join. They lobby successfully against lots of crazy ideas the govt has regarding motorcycling. But do all keep hassling Southwark.
  7. I'm still giggling at a cleaning company being rubbish....
  8. WAIT, you are getting ONE GIGABYTES PER SECOND? We are on 1.5 MEGAbyte with BT. MEGA. Meaning tiny ickle. An Oxymoron is the word MEGA in this sense. I shall tell the Dictionary.com of the new definition....
  9. Thank you for the link. My little bike ?18 My big bike ?85 The difference between the two is curious as ever when both have negligible effect on roads.
  10. Not all of us have health options to ride bicycles. I wish people would stop trying to sell cycling. Like the Council. Keep saying it's healthy. Well it would kill me, and also breathing in fumes is worse when exercising. No thanks. Stick with motorcycling. More fun too.
  11. Back to Broyal's opening post, I am so sorry to read this but a point you made about the neighbours were home, bega the question did they not hear anything? Did they call police etc? I hope the police act promptly. Best wishes to you.
  12. Welcome to the biker community. Datatag is important. If your bike is stolen and the police are awake when it is found they can scan it to see if it has datatag on it. Fork out for the best locks that MCN and everyone reckons is the best one. Motorcycle Action Group: Join it (please everyone!)
  13. There is a lot of anti theft technology out there. My phone keeps pinging me with photos of my own face when I have failed to remember the password when my fingerprint wasn't working and it thinks it is being stolen so takes a photo of me! I absolutely do not blame victims but as a motorcyclist I see so many people just wondering around not really aware of their surroundings slowly tapping into their phones, and they are ripe for having their phone taken. A few times I have been aware of mopeds near me and wondering if they are going to nick them. Would I stay with the victim or safely chase the moped rider. Hmmm.
  14. It's just the Lads and Laddesses. We're adorable and will protect the environment and keep out the baddies whilst having a bit of fun on the way.
  15. Around Sturry and Canterbury too!
  16. Interesting posts including Burbage's above thank you. We have decided not to have a smart meter. We don't need it. It does not kill us to easily look on the meters and easily post results every so often to EDF via the easy online meter reading page. I am not about to get paranoid or OCD about putting a bit too much water than I need in the kettle when boiling it for two. How far down the road does one go when the price of every decision is there in front of you. Should I cook this or that if this uses less electricity according to the meter? Maybe just a salad tonight then.... So EDF are phoning and emailing me regularly and I am telling them every time NO NO NO and they are still not getting the message!
  17. Anna27, when you use the word 'today' in the headline, don't 'alf making it confusing!
  18. I would highly recommend you approach Southwark Leaseholders CAB in the first instance to have them check out the situation. They are at 8 Market Place Southwark Park Road but you have to make an appointment. They may be able to confirm the situation. Get their number off the web.
  19. Well done on keeping this thread going, finding it even! Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Old Vic. Superb. Got tickets before I even knew who was in the cast. David Haig steals the show.
  20. It looks a bit of a wreck. I told the police and they said they would come and inspect. I do not know if they did. Maybe it's yours and you did not register it here yet. Anyway, send me a PM and I shall tell you where it is exactly.
  21. The wing looked awkward and the feathers appeared to be missing from part of it. It seemed quite happy with his mate the crow (yes, ianr, I thought that too!) but when it was hurrying, it looked like flying may be problematic.
  22. Photo of male pheasant around Rye Hill Park.
  23. I have photographed and posted elsewhere the fully grown male pheasant often seen around East side of Peckham Rye near Rye Hill. He appears to have a broken wing and is often seen strolling around the manor with a friendly crow. I alerted a wildlife charity but they have not replied, so may have to remind them. It's sad that he can't fly. But he's a big so and so, yet even so the foxes could have a good meal if they were strategic enough. Not seen any grouse feathers around so it would yet appear he is still around.
  24. NO. No tissues or nappies or kitchen towels/paper towels. Not according to my Southwark recycling list.
  25. MEANWHILE I attended the local SNT meeting last night and they said they are of course aware of all this and although it is not right on their patch, believe it or not neighbouring ward police officers do share information. Do any of you go to your SNT meetings to speak with the police, and meet other neighbours in your area? They can give you information, and even when they can't because of legal/operational reasons, they can at least chat with you and let you know what they can and that they are working to catch these .... people. OH, and guess what - they don't always come from local council estates! BIG shock there for you to digest, I realise, but let's be more intelligent than that, eh?
