  1. FYI if you do get a Saturday appt at the Lister, it is still an appointment, and I am grateful for it. There is a prescribing nurse there too. ie. with more qualifications, allowed to prescribe, so thus taking extra work from doctors. We are lucky to have it. The ability to see the doctor of your choice is rare these days. Continuity of care is very important I think especially for older people who feel they need to relate to someone where that in itself makes them feel better and more confident. But it is highly unlikely to happen unless you can afford the time with your illness to be able to plan ahead and also use EMIS (the online App; ask your receptionist about this if you don't already use it. You can order repeat prescriptions, make appts at certain times, even see the results of your tests.)
  2. At the meeting to discuss this, the Gas company manager said to one of the managers of the shops they would always be happy to allow delivery drivers to back down Rye Lane to make deliveries. Yes, the work will be in sections, but all the buses won't be able to get down there.
  3. Hi all. I saw big signs warning folks of this closure, appearing now on approaching streets. At the bus stop someone was overheard by me to say, "Well that's ridiculous. Maybe they made a mistake on the sign! They can't close this road for a whole year!" They can, they will, and they have to.
  4. Marmoleum is not the same as lino. It's tougher and needs a prepared resin layer underneath.
  5. That's outrageous! Thanks for the heads up. Rose
  6. Go to CAB Leaseholders and ask for a meeting. They are at 8 Market Square off Southwark Park Road. Ask for Gete Otite (pronounced Jeetay) or Helen Walpole. They will advise you. You need to make an official complaint (Stage 1), then if the reply is not sufficient you go to Stage 2 which means someone else replies. Then you have the right to go to Arbitration. Arbitration for leaseholders in Southwark is run by trained folk including other Leaseholders. I had a helluva case with them a few years ago and won a lot of money BUT would rather not have gone through 16 months of hell including severe illness as a result of the damp. When you get to Market Square for your meeting, the Home Ownership is two doors on the right before the CAB Leaseholders dept. That's the bit you want. I wish you well. Oh, and if you have not already, get a big folder, and make a record of every phonecall you have with anyone about this case, and confirm calls with emails. Keep all paperwork in date order. Then watch their face when you turn up to Arbitration with a big file confirming all their screw ups and lies.
  7. The news may have been in the papers for the last two weeks but very few people read newspapers. I am glad that it is not happening at the same time Rye Lane is to be closed for a year. What, Rose? Rye Lane is to be closed for a year? Are you nuts? No, folks. No. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1981497
  8. We had marmoleum and a great colourful design too. Bought from and laid by Lordship Floors. Looks soooo good.

    I'm still using Cash!
  10. Hi Ask your GP for the results of the 2018 questionnaires. I can't copy here as the PDF file is too big, but basically Nunhead Surgery hits the top third (and higher than the national average) and the Dulwich Medical Practice and Forest Hill are usually at or very near the bottom of the list of all the GP surgeries in Southwark for patient satisfaction and opinions, for all sorts of questions such as ability to get the doctor you need, the time you need, the quality of care for long term conditions, the ability to get out of hours help and so on. Ask your GP. Try and attend your GP patient forums. Off yer go. You're welcome!
  11. Another reason to get rid of speed bumps.
  12. The shops will still be opening, don't make them suffer if you can help it.
  13. Hi all Since about 2011 there have been 81 gas leaks down Rye Lane. Southwark had typically resisted doing anything about it until finally they were persuaded that the original gas mains from about a hundred years ago (I am sure that's what the gas rep said) should be completely replaced. The whole road will be blocked and the pipe will be replaced in sections at a time. Only pedestrians will be able to use the pavements, and anyone trying to cycle down the pavements, will be stopped by police specially when they make their presence felt at the beginning. The traffic will be diverted to the east of Rye Lane. The gas rep said he himself had used the alternative routes on his bicycle to the west of Rye Lane, and it added about 60 seconds to the time of what it would take just going straight down Rye Lane. Busses will be diverted to the east route, and won't be able to deposit people right outside the Peckham Rye Station, and this will not be good for those who maybe can't walk so easily. I am just imparting information as I remember it from the meeting. It's a big project, and two big gas pipes are to be replaced, and it will be done in sections, as I said, but for 60 weeks Rye Lane shall be closed to traffic. Eileen Conn have I missed/misheard anything?
  14. Oh I dunno rahrahrah, you don't have to pay for the loos, or a glass, with your cheap beer.
  15. You mean their rich residents who canafford to pay? ;)
  16. It is a tough time of year for those of us who suffer a particular fungal sensitivity. Allergic Bronchial Pulmonary Aspergillosis (known as ABPA for short though most GPs and hospital consultants won't have heard of it imo) is what is technically known as a bitch. https://www.aspergillus.org.uk/content/allergic-bronchopulmonary-aspergillosis-abpa
  17. Indeed the price for garden collection waste in right wing Thanet was ?45 a year two years ago. So I organised for my parents to share the price and bins of a few neighbours.
  18. An owl can be heard on a regular basis around the rear of Rye Hill Estate. Joyful, except when it wakes you up like from the scene in My Cousin Vinny.
  19. Oh come on, the gas company are not out to kill cyclists. They are out to improve a gas network.
  20. .... is, that the money goes to VEOLIA who insisted on the charge being made. Yup, the council is beholden to Veolia and not the other way round. I learned this at a meeting the other day. Just thought you should know too. EDITED TO SAY I WAS NOT THINKING WHEN I WROTE THE ORIGINAL POST CITING A ?200 CHARGE! Multitasking is a myth. Can't be done. Exhibit A. The council are charging though and it IS because Veolia demanded it. Sidhue, thank you. x
  21. Even people in flats have need for them when a complete overhaul is needed of balcony pots and plant troughs. I was told at a recent meeting that you can phone and ask for a nag to be delivered to your door! But now I know that they're available in libraries that's useful. They can then be left for collection with recycling.
  22. Thanks for posting all this. Whilst it would appear the work does need to be done, I hope that Southwark will see sense and not have this and the station works happening at the same time, yet that does seem to happen a lot! But what came first: The station plans or the gas main improvement plans?
  23. There is a wonderful vertical garden wall at Elephant and Castle by the Bakerloo entrance. I've loved watching that grow and change colours since it first went up. Good luck in what you get and show us pictures!
  24. The 343 is going to carry on an extended route to Aldgate. This is a good thing.
  25. Yes thanks for sharing this. Seems Southwark are always trying to stop people getting from A to B in any other way than already over-crowded main roads, so that those roads get even more congested.
