  1. Hi Ask your GP for the results of the 2018 questionnaires. I can't copy here as the PDF file is too big, but basically Nunhead Surgery hits the top third (and higher than the national average) and the Dulwich Medical Practice and Forest Hill are usually at or very near the bottom of the list of all the GP surgeries in Southwark for patient satisfaction and opinions, for all sorts of questions such as ability to get the doctor you need, the time you need, the quality of care for long term conditions, the ability to get out of hours help and so on. Ask your GP. Try and attend your GP patient forums. Off yer go. You're welcome!
  2. Another reason to get rid of speed bumps.
  3. The shops will still be opening, don't make them suffer if you can help it.
  4. Hi all Since about 2011 there have been 81 gas leaks down Rye Lane. Southwark had typically resisted doing anything about it until finally they were persuaded that the original gas mains from about a hundred years ago (I am sure that's what the gas rep said) should be completely replaced. The whole road will be blocked and the pipe will be replaced in sections at a time. Only pedestrians will be able to use the pavements, and anyone trying to cycle down the pavements, will be stopped by police specially when they make their presence felt at the beginning. The traffic will be diverted to the east of Rye Lane. The gas rep said he himself had used the alternative routes on his bicycle to the west of Rye Lane, and it added about 60 seconds to the time of what it would take just going straight down Rye Lane. Busses will be diverted to the east route, and won't be able to deposit people right outside the Peckham Rye Station, and this will not be good for those who maybe can't walk so easily. I am just imparting information as I remember it from the meeting. It's a big project, and two big gas pipes are to be replaced, and it will be done in sections, as I said, but for 60 weeks Rye Lane shall be closed to traffic. Eileen Conn have I missed/misheard anything?
  5. Oh I dunno rahrahrah, you don't have to pay for the loos, or a glass, with your cheap beer.
  6. You mean their rich residents who canafford to pay? ;)
  7. It is a tough time of year for those of us who suffer a particular fungal sensitivity. Allergic Bronchial Pulmonary Aspergillosis (known as ABPA for short though most GPs and hospital consultants won't have heard of it imo) is what is technically known as a bitch. https://www.aspergillus.org.uk/content/allergic-bronchopulmonary-aspergillosis-abpa
  8. Indeed the price for garden collection waste in right wing Thanet was ?45 a year two years ago. So I organised for my parents to share the price and bins of a few neighbours.
  9. An owl can be heard on a regular basis around the rear of Rye Hill Estate. Joyful, except when it wakes you up like from the scene in My Cousin Vinny.
  10. Oh come on, the gas company are not out to kill cyclists. They are out to improve a gas network.
  11. .... is, that the money goes to VEOLIA who insisted on the charge being made. Yup, the council is beholden to Veolia and not the other way round. I learned this at a meeting the other day. Just thought you should know too. EDITED TO SAY I WAS NOT THINKING WHEN I WROTE THE ORIGINAL POST CITING A ?200 CHARGE! Multitasking is a myth. Can't be done. Exhibit A. The council are charging though and it IS because Veolia demanded it. Sidhue, thank you. x
  12. Even people in flats have need for them when a complete overhaul is needed of balcony pots and plant troughs. I was told at a recent meeting that you can phone and ask for a nag to be delivered to your door! But now I know that they're available in libraries that's useful. They can then be left for collection with recycling.
  13. Thanks for posting all this. Whilst it would appear the work does need to be done, I hope that Southwark will see sense and not have this and the station works happening at the same time, yet that does seem to happen a lot! But what came first: The station plans or the gas main improvement plans?
  14. There is a wonderful vertical garden wall at Elephant and Castle by the Bakerloo entrance. I've loved watching that grow and change colours since it first went up. Good luck in what you get and show us pictures!
  15. The 343 is going to carry on an extended route to Aldgate. This is a good thing.
  16. Yes thanks for sharing this. Seems Southwark are always trying to stop people getting from A to B in any other way than already over-crowded main roads, so that those roads get even more congested.
  17. Leaseholders CAB are in Market Place Southwark park Road. Google them and make an appointment. They will help.
  18. And also a "book" of remembrance in the shop?
  19. Then tomskip, you have no idea about how many and possibly "most" people in Southwark would find that ?16 is a hell of a lot of money. A lot of people simply can not afford ?16 to have something taken away and that is why there is or will be more fly tipping/dumping of stuff on pavements/parks etc. This is daft because of course Southwark would be responsible for collecting the dumped stuff. Please don't assume we're all as well off as you.
  20. I found that useful information to wrap the bread in linen Angelina; thank you! As for dried milk powder, this is in many recipes but is not obligatory. I never include it. I got my first bread machine many many years ago via this forum, and have never looked back. Not bought a loaf of bread since!
  21. Don't forget the Fete on Saturday! And yes, hoorah the local Funfair!
  22. See my post above MirandaS. Take the pets out the room. It's smokey!
  23. I can second the use of the 'bombs'. Though had to get husband to do it. He said the fumes went up to the ceiling then spread across the room, so get out quick and shut the door for half an hour taking the pets with you.
  24. They make money to create dropped kerbs. If they'll make money from it you can do it. I did not, however, realise that one needs planning permission to concrete over front gardens. Why is that allowed? I bet their Ecology Office doesn't like that. Why employ an Ecology officer then allow people to concrete over front gardens? As far as car reduction is concerned, they really will lose out both ways. The money they make from fines!
  25. Understood. Thank you. It's a tough one specially when individuals are advertising for someone to help around the house... Thanks
