  1. My thoughts are you should have started a new post because I just read through the lot without looking at the dates! Hey, get to know all your neighbours, be nice, and be glad you don't live in Clapham. Or Alston. Or Norfolk. Be 'appy!
  2. I got it. And I watched the last half last night, like others of you watched Inspector Linley and realised I was at Youth Theatre with Nat Parker's wife. I remember going to a party at her house when I was about 19 and her parents are well loaded and lived in a massive hise orf Spencer Park. I got well drunk and threw up all over the place. Peckham Finishing School - I turned on just as the white scary looking one seemed to be the last to tell her heavy story to everyone. Then later she had a go at one of the posh girls for saying she had drawn the short straw for ending up with the scary one. It would seem the posh girls can do no right and the Peckham girls are all blameless victims being dissed.
  3. It is certainly true that I have recognised 2 EDFers from here, one was Legal - um, whatever her name was when she changed it from ChavWivALawDegree. And true when I am in the park or Lordship Lane I often wonder how many are. I am thinking of making a badge saying "I am an EDFer, can you guess which one?"
  4. The exchange is your phone number, ie 020 7639 xxxx - so the 7639 or the 8299 in your case, maybe, is the exchange. 7639 (Peckham and New Cross) as is 7635) were one of the first exchanges to get broadband at 500kb and now it is still only about 2 to 3mb according to my tests, anyway!
  5. Yes, Louisa, what he (the above) said! I am a good person, trained, experienced biker and never smug - always try to learn from mistakes, first aid trained. All bikers are humans too, just as are selfish badly trained idiot red-light jumping bus drivers. Don't make such stupid ignorant generalisations or we will think of you as a stupid ignorant person. See what I did there twice?
  6. 'Sadly' it's a no brainer? SADLY? It's a great way to get around and people like Louisa are to be ignored. Motorcycle it, and then when you get to work you've already had a motorcycle ride that day. And no more passing round colds and flu on public transport!
  7. That is so sad! In about 1990 I went to an XTC convention in Manchester and the organiser knew him and got him to do a gig for us. He played some XTC and his rendition of We're Only Making Plans for Little Nigel was one of the funniest things I have ever heard.
  8. Doncha just love this forum?!
  9. Might I make a suggestion that you edit your first post with a map of what area you cover? I am in Peckham Rye and Nunhead Ward and some of EastDulwich SE22 is in that too! I will try and get the Sgt of my ward to sign up on here too. Do please remember to check in here regularly!
  10. I hated this show and I did see it. It was offensive cheap television, and I watched it because it was about Peckham. Of course we see those (types of)girls and poverty and so on and on, but we all know that poverty is in many places including Chelsea (World's End, for example), but Peckham has fabulous architecture and a very active Society and Choumert Square and lots of people from all professions live here as well as single folk, families, a big artist community, and it's a microcosm of society in itself. The programme makers even acknowledged that it had - actually I forgot how many - different races of people from so many countries but then implied that that was a bad thing. Rye Lane is our centre / hub, and I am not keen on Rye Lane, though I am not frightened or appalled at it. It's Little Africa. And that's fine. But the programme makers wanted to make a cheap point and the Peckham girls were rude, and offensive, just as if they found themselves in Virginia Water they'd be the subject of rudeness too. Oh how ironic they showed them going to church without voicing the question that if so many people go to these 43 or however many churches, how come there's still so much crime?! Godfearing my ar$e! Anyway, I still love Peckham and Peckham Rye, and the programme made the production company look bad, not Peckham.
  11. So now we know it was a digital camera!
  12. This is probably way outta order but if you need a spare Ventolin salbutamol inhaler, I have one spare (being as it's the weekend and you may need one before Monday?). PM me. I don't have a spacer though.
  13. The safer neighbourhood team comprises your local police, police community support officers (who I can vouch are really dedicated and good) and community wardens, and we are all invited to meetings which occur every two or three months. My one meets at the Harris Girls Sports Academy. Members of Southwark council ASBO units sometimes attend, and local councillor/s. The most annoying thing is when people with a problem come along, talk to the meeting about the problem, it gets sorted, and then they never return. I am thinking in particular of the people who are on committee of nearby allotments which were being vandalised. We in the group each meeting are asked our opinions on which three areas the police should target and at that meeting it was agreed they target the allotment as one of the three. Sure enough, the villains were caught. Not seen anything of the people since. Ask not what your local police ward panel can do for you, etc! Anyway, I always start a thread in the WHAT'S ON section (am only allowed to put it on in there, although to my mind it's not like a gig, or comedy show; it's a meeting of use to us all and I would not think to look for it in there, but there you go!) - saying when the next meeting is going to be. If you want to find out for yourselves email your local safer neighbour team, you will find them by doing a bit of work and going into the police websites.
  14. Wellthat's what we all want to know, and to change, nutty. All bus lanes have signs at the beginning of their stretch that show icons of what can and can't ride in them. And then you turn left say, and the bus lane sign has a motorcycle on it so you can, then you turn another corner and all of a sudden you can not. It's utterly ridiculous, and it's only constant pressure by such groups as Motorcycle Action Group who managed to persuade the mayor of the sense in allowing us in TfL lanes. Each borough has their own rules. All London should have two rules only: 1) Drive on the left and 2) (thanks to James May) Don't be a prat! So join MAG if you are not already a member.
  15. It always amazes me when a reporter is on the scene in some far distant corner of the world where there has been some natural tragedy, there is always someone, somewhere who has enough English to be able to say what happened.
  16. To the comment above the one above, many boroughs and towns in England allow bikers in all bus lanes. Richmond does, too, as well as Westminster itself allows us in some of them. There must be a motorcyclist on the council in Newham as we are also allowed at the front of the traffic with the cyclists on the green bit; something we do anyway everywhere else! (Well I do, anyway.)
  17. Motorcycles in Bus Lanes, TfL report. The main thing is it was successful, and the fear cyclists had of being in jeopardy were unfounded. However, there were a few more accidents involving motorcyclists being hit by vehicles turning left across the bus lanes, without looking before turning to see if there was anything coming. We all need to take more responsibility and look out for one another. And do a First Aid course!
  18. Well since that corner of Peckham Rye used to be a car park area I would not vote against its reuse to widen the road so a right hand filter light and turn space could be put in place. The pavement there is also quite wide so there is space. Incidentally ...
  19. A wheelclamp is definitely a good idea. Fitting a webcam in the window also!
  20. Several years ago I caught the same teenager three times over a period of about 3 months on stolen motorbikes or scooters. Reported him each time. I hope you can ask the police to keep you informed. Get the name and number of one policeman in particular then hang on to him for information!
  21. I am glad your Dad is doing better. I have always said roundabouts would be a better bet (and at the next traffic lights too at the next junction of Peckham Rye East / onwards to Nunhead). Turning right is a major headache, if you don't do it when your lights have turned red sometimes the car behind you will shunt you. Seen that happen too. There is a community council meeting next week, why don't everyone go and demand improvements? A right filter light at both junctions too. I have been hassling the council ever since the 2nd lot of traffic lights went in but a lone voice always gets lost and ignored...
  22. For years. They're featured regularly! Thank heavens for double glazing!
  23. That's so sad and awful, too. I am sorry none of your neighbours noticed anything suspicious! Come along to the next Police Ward Panel meeting and ask them what they are doing about it. In person.
  24. That's okay woof, I do funerals too, so if you're not religious you're in luck either way!!
