House burgled on Beckwith rd (North Dulwich)
goldilocks replied to charlotteewood's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That is a horrible thing to come back to. If you haven't already,it might be worth checking in with neighbours to see if they tried any other houses - we recently got multiple cctv pics of a burglar from our street this way and have sent up a neighbourhood watch whatsapp group to share info / concerns etc. In terms of helping other avoid this outcome and considering what modifications might be useful to their home security, it would be useful to understand a couple of things if you don't mind? 1. When you say 'smashed the door in' - was this an external door facing onto the street or an internal flat door - 2. linked to above - was the door mortice locked or yale / nightlatch only? -
Fireworks at 10.30 pm - Dulwich Village area?
goldilocks replied to Metallic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think there is a difference between 'not illegal' or 'nothing stopping them' vs what is appropriate and responsible. There are lots of things we could all do legally that would make the lives of people living around us much less pleasant. Coming off the back of the Alleyn's 400th anniversary celebrations fireworks (also ridiculously late and going on for a long time) these additional late fireworks haven't been well received and a little consideration from people planning events would be good. -
Fireworks at 10.30 pm - Dulwich Village area?
goldilocks replied to Metallic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think more broadly its yet again a question of appropriateness and judgement. The sound in this area carries horribly - we heard them up by East Dulwich Station so it definitely wasn't just a very local issue - they woke up one of my kids. I don't believe that fireworks at 10-10:30 are appropriate in a residential area. Its dark by 8 these days so a 9pm curfew on fireworks would seem reasonable. Event planners need to realise they're not Disneyland - so fireworks arent' your 'go home' messsage! -
Are our streets disabled friendly?
goldilocks replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Exactly - if there is no official signage and markings to show this, then no pavement parking. -

As above - for parking infringements call Southwark's parking Enforcement on 020 7708 8587. They actually do come out and they're pretty quick (obviously as they represent a cash generating service!). Pavement parking like the picture attached is never ok - it blocks accessibility for many, its illegal, I'm not aware of any scenario where it would be allowed and it damages the pavements costing us more in council services. -
New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham

About to open might be a bit of a stretch - its advertising for staff but is by no means looking ready to open. -
Report dangerous driving Audi NA66 OTC
goldilocks replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As above - in case anyone else is wondering about this - if there is an immediate danger to people (which driving erratically on the wrong side of the road, speeding and jumping lights in this way probably counts as) I'd call 999 in case they have a car in the area and can pick them up. No other option would have the immediacy of this approach. I did this recently where 'kids' on a motor scooter were driving along pavements, not wearing helmets and speeding through residential roads - no one suggested it wasn't an appropriate call. -
Dcd/dyslexia private assessment and support
goldilocks replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't have any experience of what you're looking for , so hopefully others who do will see this message. I just wanted to check that you were aware of Bell House on Dulwich Village (opposite the Picture Gallery) who run lots of Dyslexia events -they had a 'Dyslexia fair' a couple of weekends ago and are an education based charity with a specific focus around dyslexia. If you haven't come across them, might be worth getting in touch. -
New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham

Good! Betting shops bring nothing to an area. Lynne Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > William Hill's shop by Superdrug has got a closing > down sign in it's window. -
worth noting that you also need to check that the distance is measured as the crow flies for each school you are looking at. Charter N used to be 'safe walking route' - I think its changed now but definitely worth checking where the 'nodal point' they measure to is. For Charter N I think its the driveway opposite Ardbeg Road, for Charter ED its Jarvis road.

mine has been off since around lunchtime today - also near goose green. Annoyingly also said no network problems and when I ran the checker it just said 'it looks like your router may be turned off'. They're so annoying!

Might be worth getting in contact with Southwark Cyclists - they have been following this closely

There are some issues with the documents online apparently - we got an email saying there would be an update and all docs would be available by Monday. Traders and businesses in the zone can apply for a business permit where their vehicle is required for their business. Again - the roads bordering Lordship Lane that were originally included have been taken out of the finalised zone, the parking bays on Melbourne outside the shops are being retained so unlikely to be any difference in availability of customer parking!
-
Would probably be ideal if people read the docs before posting about them, otherwise you'll all whip yourselves up into mass hysteria. Forest Hill road isn't within the CPZ - the TMO there is something to do with crossings! The CPZ area was dramatically reduced to reflect the responses to the consultation. There will obviously be people living within who voted against, and people outside who don't want anyone to have a CPZ at all, however thought it was worth re flagging that the CPZ is going to be the smaller area around East Dulwich Grove and the station, rather than the wider initial area towards Lordship Lane first proposed. dbboy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. > > On roads such as Forest Hill Road, I can see > delays, traffic backing up, increased pollution > and of course prolonged journey times. It is however based on the kings annual pollution maps which are made based on monitoring information, and that have now been updated with 2016 data and have projections to 2020. So an alternative could be to look there! https://www.londonair.org.uk/london/asp/annualmaps.asp

I did a bit of playing around with it and it seems that everywhere locally gets a '3' which tells me the data they have based this on isn't localised enough to give meaningful results. I tried the riding school on Dulwich Common, The Horniman and Bessemer Grange School and they all had the same rating which I wouldn't expect to be the case. In summary, the app doesn't tell us anything at the moment, other than that locally air quality is concerning (as these readings must represent local readings, just not necessarily as localised as the app suggests. Its not surprising really as reliable monitors are hugely expensive. I do know though that based on the work my local residents association did on our streets, that the figures quoted are broadly in line with what was recorded over a shorter period, so i'm not taking any comfort in the fact that the data in that app isn't great!
-
out of interest - why do you say that? Is it the lack of granularity of the information on there? It links to the Kings college data so I'd agree that it won't reflect the precise reading for a particular point on a street if there is only one monitor nearby. On the other hand - I think it challenges the idea that because Dulwich is leafy with parks, that the air isn't polluted and shows that we need to take steps now to address the air quality locally.

Regardless of whether you loved it- 10pm is a really antisocial time for fireworks to go off in a residential area. It?s been dark for hours and they could have done them earlier!

Our local police team - Goose Green ward

Not really sure what you were hoping he would do here - a) logistically it would have been difficult to stop it and b) last time i checked, abject stupidity wasn't a crime! singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I saw a police officer near ED station at school > chucking out time yesterday. Tables for street party-to borrow
goldilocks replied to tortor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we have quite a lot of street parties - and we generally just ask neighbours if they have any camping tables / garden tables they could bring out - you don't get the 1950s street party look - but then it also leaves more of the street available for kids to play! -
maybe they were a batch which failed - sometimes they have issues with fridges etc. They're pretty active on social media (twitter / Insta) so you could ask them? If they are throwing it out I agree that some kind of donation process would be good - but given they rarely seem to have bread left when you go in to buy later in the day i'd be surprised!
-
I think that's my fault as suggested it was closing up thread - I got confused, think its actually Surma which has closed isn't it?
-
Also just heard that Aneto is closing (by Goose Green) - my point on this is not that the 'Lane is in decline' - but more to flag that the increasing rates is generally pushing some businesses out and there is continual turnover. Sylvesters appears to be some kind of bar / pizza place. No one seems to know what the old Threshers will be.
-
Really though? From the top of the street the following properties are empty (pre CPZ) The building previously part of the Maudsley trust (double fronted building onto Lship lane) The old French caf? The old Threshers The building next to SMBS is a constant pop up at the moment but has been closed on and off for years Dulwich Tandoori Lush Designs Might have missed some but off the top of my head those stand out.
