Ah, we did the opposite to Pickle. We did no pants at all as the sensation of having something holding his bits in was too much like a nappy. With no pants everything was that much free-er so he was more aware of his willy, what it needed to do, & when it needed to do it (if you see what I mean). We were done and dusted in a few days - though night times took much longer. I also tried GF, some bits were useful, but I wouldn't spend money on the book if you can borrow it. This of course was with son number 3 (of 4 children), you probably don't want to hear the uninspiring story of son 1's potty training. Suffice to say that his first 18 months at school he had to have spare clothes available each day - he didn't seem to care either. Eeeeuugh, I shiver at the memory. He's fine now, I hasten to add!!

If you're taking a really young baby with you (before solids & teeth age) then do all you can to get yourself & baby breastfeeding well before you go. We took our 5 month old daughter long haul to SanFrancisco some years ago. She was completely bottle fed and I will never forget the anxiety of 'what if we run out of formula' on that flight. It was so unlikely as I had formula milk in every pocket of every flightbag we possessed, but the stress!! What if we get delayed? What if, what if etc.etc. Save yourself the hassle & breastfeed until after you get back. Otherwise I'd echo those who say go before they can crawl 3 or 4 months seems to be a good time? Ooh Molly, I'm so with you on that. I'm just desperate to train in Midwifery (blooming kids - getting in the way of my plans for world domination again). I was very jealous of AH. I thought AH did very well much to my surprise, & the transition from AH, 'entertainer' to AH, compassionate professional woman was fascinating to watch. Did anyone spot our Nunhead NCT teacher, Becky in her role as 'professional medical actress'(when AH had her trial of labour test)? She was fab, well done Becky!

You lucky girl - it would seem you have a choice between the fabulous Forest Hill surgery, & the fantastic DMC. I would echo though that if you're thinking to have more babes then opt for DMC, The Lanes midwives aim to give one-to-one midwifery care all through pregnancy. having said that Oakwood Midwives at FH do work to a similar ethos. Hmmm - take your pick I guess!?

The HOM at Kings gave the NCT some stats this week. They are that from 31/3/06 - 31/10/08 Kings delivered 13, 629 babies. Of these there were 15 cases of HIE, 9 babies died. In the same time frame (and I'm really sorry, but I can't recall/ didn't note whether the following stats were integrated with Kings or stand alone) Albany delivered 556 babies. There ere 11 cases of HIE, 2 babies died. From these figures they extrapolated that The Albany group delivered 4% of Kings total babies in that time, but accounted for 42% of babies born with poor outcomes. HTH

I knew you had to be qualified, but thought it was a separate qualification - didn't think they were nurses/ midwives. Am equally surprised Keef. Not to say a bit bemused!

Not sure who you're aiming that post at paps? Cant see any 'unfriendly' advice on this thread (but haven't re-read whole thread recently). Just forumites giving their views based on their experiences and information. Perhaps you'd care to say who you feel was being unfriendly so that they can either defend themselves, or slink off with their tale between their legs?

I used to be a Nanny to a child whose family nick-name was 'PonkyPonkyPoo'. Ok whilst a baby but I had to point out to his Mum on his first day of school that it mightn't be appropriate for a school boy!

St Barnabas do a crib service on Christmas eve, the kids go dressed as a character/ animal from the nativity (if they want), the story is told & I think age appropriate carols are sung. It's at 3pm and 4.30pm this year. It's luuurverly.

Poor you, how stressful. It is probably just a phase snowboarder. Also sounds a bit like he might be teething (nappies) & so gums might be hurting him a bit when he eats. Keep offering a varied diet, whatever you're eating within reason, and his appetite will return I'm sure. Probably whilst you're away with all the new distractions for him. Insensitive naming is sadly more common than you may think. A dear friend of mine had a baby boy at 21 weeks, they named him Jack, he didn't survive. Her sister in law was due to have a baby at the same time Jack should have been born. She duly had a boy at term, and - yes, you've guessed it - named him Jack. I was speechless when my lovely friend told me. Sorry to go off on a tangent from thread. I would say tell no-one unless you're absolutely sure of your name & will not be changing your mind come hell or high water, the kind of response that Bellendenbear got is quite common & if you have a name you like you don't need to know what everyone else thinks of it. Also it's quite nice to 'introduce' your baby to the world once it's born. My Mum insisted on calling my 3rd boy 'Max' until he was about a year old. This wasn't any of his given names, just a name she liked, & she hated the one we'd given him so much she refused to use it for that period until she finally got used to it. Parents eh?!

leading on from the Christmas parade thread, I noticed a few people commenting that they don't get the SE22 magazine. We don't either. I wonder which roads do then (if any!)? Do you get it delivered in your road? We're opposite ED hospital by the way.

courtesy of mumsnet - 5 minute cake-in-a-cup; 4 tblsp SR flour 4 tblsp castor sugar 2 tblsp cocoa 1 x egg 3 tblsp milk 3 tblsp veg oil 1 x mug or large cup mix dried ingredients in cup, break in egg & mix well add milk & veg oil, & mix really well heat in 1000kw microwave for 3 mins fab!
