Constant rubbish at Holmes Place, Oakhurst Grove
Renata Hamvas replied to Peckham Park's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Lazero, I'm trying to work constructively with First Port on this. It's difficult as they are the freeholders of this site and therefore responsible for sorting out the issues there. I did suggest CCTV to them. In terms of the dumping, on the whole the nature of the items being dumped indicates they are likely to be from residents vacating properties rather than driving up and dumping (eg the recent dump has been sofas etc which wouldn't have fitted into a car. Someone with a van could have just easily taken the items to the Southwark recycling centre as dumped them.)I wasn't involved in the previous letters so I don't know their content. I'm hoping with information about eg how you can dispose of your unwanted sofa responsibly, that residents will act accordingly. Of course there is never any guarantee! Renata -
Constant rubbish at Holmes Place, Oakhurst Grove
Renata Hamvas replied to Peckham Park's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Cactus, I fully understand your issues with this. In my most recent conversation with them when they pointed out that the removal of fly tipped material is paid for by the residents, I did point out by the nature of the material that is getting dumped it is being done by people vacating properties. The area where the dumping occurs seems to be at an electricity sub-station. We did discuss CCTV, but they were not keen on the idea as they pointed out that it could work out very expensive, particularly the monitoring costs and this all would be passed onto residents! It is for this reason that we jointly drafted a letter to residents to inform them of appropriate methods of disposing of unwanted furniture, white goods and other electricals when they move out. To update on the current fly tip situation. When we had the previous Fly tipping incident, I contacted L&Q and discovered that this site is under a property management company, First Port Property Services. I have contacted them and asked to remove the dumped items (they don't appear to have any record of the current fly tip being reported to them). I have worked with them on the draft of a letter which will go out to all residents giving them options on how to disposes of unwanted items (eg local charities that take bulky items and electricals and Southwark's bulky waste service). The cost of fly tip removal is passed onto the residents in their maintenance bills. I hope that this latest fly-tip gets removed over the next couple of days. Please let me know if it doesn't. If anyone spots a new fly tip at this location, The property company's number is +443333214080 and it's option 5. Thanks Renata -
Peckham Rye Adventure Playground to Close??
Renata Hamvas replied to stephen509's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Jacbuc, I would like to clarify things. No staff have been laid off and the adventure playground is not closing. Upon investigation I have found that some of the staff there have opted for Southwark's voluntary redundancy scheme and because they have chosen to do so are leaving at the end of September. Therefore there will be some staff changes at that point. Renata -
Peckham Rye Adventure Playground to Close??
Renata Hamvas replied to stephen509's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi all, just to confirm once more what I wrote back in November the Peckham Rye Adventure Playground is not closing down. Opening hours should remain pretty much as they are. It is NOT becoming a pay to use facility (this has been implied on the Carnegie Library thread). Renata -
Dog Kennel Hill Adventure Playground under threat?
Renata Hamvas replied to andrewc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
To update, when seeing this thread I contacted South Camberwell Councillor Sarah King. She made enquiries to confirm what we thought. There are no current planning applications on the DKHAP site. The site is metropolitan open land and in community use and therefore a housing scheme on the site would be directly contrary to planning policy. Pre-application advice has been given to DKHAP/Lightbox regarding an improved club house building at the site, although to-date no formal planning application has been made. There was a proposal for housing on the frontage of the Sainsbury's site some while ago which was refused permission. The only other housing proposals of note in the immediate area are those for the Dulwich Hamlet site further south, and there is an extant permission for a small residential scheme on the plot of land adjacent to No. 1 DKH further up the hill. I hope this lays to rest any concerns residents may have Renata -
Hi all, I have spoken to the officer who came up with the idea of the blanket 7.5m lengths of double yellow lines at junctions. The reasoning behind this is that parking at junctions contravenes the highway code and is unsafe eg for drivers , cyclists etc and visibility and pedestrians crossing the road. Over many years, mainly due to safety concerns (often when residents have raised the issue, eg with their ward councillors) the lines have been gradually introduced. This has meant consultation and implementation on a junction by junction basis. In East Dulwich the proportion of junctions with double yellow lines has already reached 60%. The reasoning behind treating the other junctions on a Ward by Ward basis is to increase safety and do so in a more efficient manner than the current piecemeal strategy. My Ward, Peckham Rye hasn't been considered yet, but at some point it will, and it will come to Peckham and Nunhead Community Council for discussion. This has definitely not been put on the agenda as a money generating exercise as has been mooted above! Renata

Hi Otta My daughter made one for a school project. She used polystyrene and paper balls which she painted and hung them on sticks to form a mobile. You can buy kits to do this. For example: http://www.yellowmoon.org.uk/solar-system-kits Renata

Southwark Plans for Camberwell Old & New Cemeteries.
Renata Hamvas replied to Penguin68's topic in The Lounge
The Japanese Knotweed issue is definitely not a new problem here. There have been infestations a few times in the cemeteries in recent years. It is very invasive and small pieces can grow into new plants as mentioned by Abe above. Hi Penguin, they tend to do a treatment and then return and follow up a couple of months later. The stems look a bit like rhubarb (reddish) and it has large heartish shaped leaves. Renata -
Looking for local planning application rejections
Renata Hamvas replied to Rowanofski's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Mark that is relevant stuff. Hi Rowan, with planning each application is considered on an individual basis, the two rejections you cite were probably done on a delegated basis and therefore an officer decided they should be rejected. Unfortunately this hasn't happened with the application you are interested in. To update those interested in this one, it isn't going to the 5th April meeting, so most likely it will be heard at the 26th April Planning B. I am planning to represent residents for this item. Hi Shel, I have deleted some messages, so there is space now. Renata

Looking for local planning application rejections
Renata Hamvas replied to Rowanofski's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Rowan, the smaller applications are most likely to have been declined if they are listed buildings or in a conservation area. The current government has loosened up on what requires planning permission in general by extending permitted development rights, so many smaller structural changes don't even get to Planning. This doesn't apply for listed/conservation area properties and all of these have to go via Planning even if they are minor alterations and may get turned down if the conservation officer deems them to be detrimental to the area. Hi Siouzie Attending are: Govia Thameslink Cllr Darrell Merrill (this falls within his Cabinet portfolio) Cllr Fiona Colley (Nunhead) Cllr Sandra Rhule (Nunhead) Cllr Florence Eshalomi (Lambeth Councillor and GLA candidate) There may be other councillors A representative from the Cinderella Line (Crofton Park/Lewisham lobby group) Southwark News attending to report possibly Network Rail possibly RMT (ticket office closures) Harriet Harman MP was due to attend, but unfortunately can't due to illness. Chief, I suggest you contact you ward councillors about this. Thanks for the heads up Nunhead_Man for those who wish to try cycling to Blackfriars. Renata
-
Hi A Cinderella Line, I agree that there is significant cross-over with the issues at Crofton Park and Nunhead/Peckham Rye/Denmark Hill. It was clear by the large number of attendees at your meeting that there is strong local feeling about this train service. The issues raised about punctuality, capacity, frequency and station skipping are the same ones that local residents in Southwark have complained to me about. Renata
-
Hi Penguin, I have asked them! (and Network Rail). I'm about to email them again as I haven't had a response. The contract for the Thameslink service isn't up for renewal until 2021 ( they are the worst performing service in the Country and the Overground is the second top). The issue with this is that more trains are required now and by then the slots at Blackfriars will have been filled up! thanks Renata PS is there anyone out there with a mobile PA system that I could borrow for this meeting?(the one at the Rye Chapel isn't working).
-
I've been getting complaints about the Thameslink Rail Service from Nunhead/Peckham Rye/Denmark Hill for some time. Issues raised include unreliability, infrequency and most prominently insufficient capacity. I know that people are being left standing at Nunhead and Peckham Rye in the Morning and Denmark Hill in the evening on a daily basis. These three stations have seen an over 300% increase in passenger numbers over the last decade. I know that the residents at Crofton Park are also badly affected and I attended and spoke at a meeting there last month. When I've used these trains at different times of day they seem to be very busy all the time! Some residents feel unsafe on the overcrowded trains and have turned to alternatives such as the 63 bus instead. If you haven't picked up on it to let you know there is a public meeting this Thursday 17th March @ 7pm in the Rye Chapel Hall on Rye Lane, close to Peckham Rye Station and next door to Clarks. Please come along! As well as your experience of the Thameslink service, the items to be discussed will be:- Ticket Office Closures Ticket Machines Potential New Station to Serve Camberwell Interchanges Disability Access Station Skipping (have you ended up miles from your destination due to this?) The flyer for this is attached, please come along. Also, there is a consultation being done by TFL about the London rail service, anyone wishing to provide feedback on the proposals should email [email protected] by 18 March 2016, this Friday! http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2016-01/21/tfl-london-suburban-railway-proposal Renata
