  1. I'm away at the moment. Before I went Cllr Mills and I participated in a meeting with Wandle and Southwark's Head of Housing. I don't currently have access to my Southwark email, but I can update residents via pm through here. Renata
  2. Hi all, I'm abroad at the moment and therefore have no access to my Southwark email. You can still contact me via pm through here though, but my response time may be a bit slower than usual! The reason why I don't have a dedicated thread is that only part of Peckham Rye ward is in East Dulwich. Peckham Rye Ward also covers part of Nunhead and Honor Oak Park. Renata
  3. The Horniman Museum is great for that age, as is Crystal Palace park with its dinosaur statues. Surrey Docks Farm is also good, they can buy feed and feed the goats there. Renata
  4. I've travelled with young people using a friends and family railcard (my kids plus others) and we've never been asked for proof of age, only for the railcard. As Jules says she'll need her railcard if the ticket was purchased with one. I think the Zip may be a good thing just in case as you need a passport/birth certificate to apply for it or a photocopy of her birth certificate/passport. I just think it may be less stressful for her if she is travelling alone, just to have something with her just in case. Renata
  5. I agree Jah Lush, but they may not realise that their amp is turned up high enough to disturb all their neighbours! Renata
  6. Hi Dulwichfox, they do deal with Japenese Knotweed infestations on a regular basis during it's growing season. It's also been an issue in all three cemeteries in the area too. Renata
  7. Hi dirac, the Friends of Peckham Rye Park are volunteers but the Quadron gardeners (who also work in the South Cemeteries as well as parks) are not. If you are interested in becoming involved with the FOPRP or want more information about them, look at their website: http://www.peckhamryepark.org/friends-of-peckham-rye-park/ They will be having their annual fete and dog show on Saturday 3rd September. Sorry, I don't know about the bees.
  8. Hi all, This project has been done by Cemeteries in conjunction with the Service Development. The low wooden fence had led to continual dumping issues; bags of builders' rubble and rubbish were regularly being dumped by throwing them over the wooden fence. The new railings are higher so this has stopped, the only rubbish now being the odd can being pushed between the railings. There would have originally been railings. Many railings were removed and melted down for use in armament's factories during the second world war. This came out of the Cemeteries budget. In the stretch where there are no graves near the railings there has been planting of native species. This is an environmental measure to provide a habitat for wild life. This will take a couple of years to make an impact. The problem at the top is that there are some large trees and graves going quite close to the cemetery boundary. I have spoken to the Head of Service Development about this. I think that the way forward for this is that those of you who think additional planting is needed, that you apply for CGS funding for a project to do this. This would allow for more planting, where it can be done to give more privacy to those visiting graves of their loved ones. I have spoken to Cemetery staff about this project and they say that they have had very positive feedback about the improved appearance and enhanced safety perceived by local residents. One resident stated that they previously would cross the road by the Cemetery when walking along Underhill Rd as they felt unsafe. Due to the increased height and visibility afforded by the railings they no longer do so. Renata
  9. I agree, they do a great job. Also the volunteers from the Friends of Peckham Rye Park should be honoured here for the contribution of their free time and energy for this fantastic park. Renata
  10. Hi cazzyr I would suggest you contact Southwark's noise team on 02075252000. It may be worth seeing if you can record it and also keep a record of when it's happening. Renata
  11. You could have contacted Southwark's noise team about this (02075252000) or do so if they have another practice. Renata
  12. Where do you live, you are usually likely to be offered a place for a school near where you live. These schools are at either end of the ED area. If you are have been offered a place higher up primary, for example if you are new to the area, I would suggest that you go for the school close to where you live. This will make it easier for the social aspects of school life for your child. Renata
  13. Westfield @ Stratford (via overground and Jubilee Line, less stressful/packed than Oxford St) Greenwich little shops and market (via train from PR/Nunhead to Lewisham and DLR to Cutty Sark) Walking around the South Bank area there are often free things going on at Festival Hall etc which could be followed/preceded by lunch at Borough Market Kaspa's at the Walworth Road or Catford for huge ice cream sundae/waffles Covent Garden with Dim Sum in China Town. Bold Tenancies/Frank's Cafe for music in the upper floors of the multi storey car park in Peckham. There are many smaller events there with affordable tickets that are family friendly and it's seen as a cool destination with great views! Local music festivals/events, look at the Southwark Website and those of our neighbouring Boroughs. I also think Camden is a good one. Cinema, there may be a new release out that the girls haven't seen; Peckhamplex is ?5/?6 a ticket. Do they have Zip cards? (Under 16 oysters) if not and the visit isn't for a couple of weeks it's worth applying for them as they give free travel on buses and discounted travel on trains, tube and DLR. Renata
  14. colourful socks as a usable party bag, stuff the second sock inside so they have a pair! Fill with other stuff, pencils rubbers etc Renata
  15. The fact that 16 and 17 year olds were excluded from the referendum is highly significant and I feel unjust. Unlike an election where the outcome is immediate, Brexit will take a minimum of 2 years from the article 50 being implemented. Everyone who is 16 now, will be at least 18 by the time it could happen, therefore, like in the Scottish referendum, they should have been allowed to vote. There are 2 million young people in this age group, so it could have impacted on the result. Renata
  16. Southwark Labour were very much in the remain camp. We leafleted and spoke to residents in the run up to, and on Thursday itself. I spent most of Thursday talking to people in my ward (Peckham Rye). I did check turnout at the polling station on Peckham Rye East (Rye Hill TRA Hall). I do think turnout was high there. From responses we got from residents, the 73% remain in Camberwell and Peckham was as expected. Camberwell and Peckham turnout was 62% in the general election. Southwark's turnout figure for the referendum was 66%. Renata
  17. Hi all, I have reported the latest dumping and graffitti to First Port. I have also raised CCTV with them (again). It's a pity the Palm didn't survive, it did look attractive. I'm not really sure what solution to this there is. There is a site, also in Peckham Rye Ward where fencing has been put around an electricity substation. Dumping still happens, people just chuck things over the fencing, making it look like a very large bin. Renata
  18. Hi Kelly, have a look on here, http://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/2720/holiday_playschemes also ask your local primary schools Renata
  19. The Green (The new Nunhead Community Centre), has rooms of different sizes plus outside space or upstairs function room at the Nun's Head.
  20. I think Anna M who posts on here does. Renata
  21. I would agree with nunheadmum, due to good transport links from Southwark and as not every school has a sixth form or offers subjects that a student wishes to study and we haven't got a further education college that is geared towards A levels, many go out of Borough. If the stats were examined I would expect to find we do have a significant proportion of sixth formers doing A levels in Lewisham. For example St Thomas the Apostle until this year was only up to GCSE level and then all pupils had to move on. Many will have gone to Haberdashers Aske Hatcham, as this has 8 forms in each 6th form year, so is very large. There is also Crossways and Christ the King Sixth Form Colleges close to the Borough boundaries, also in Lewisham. I know of teenagers who have gone to school in Southwark and are now in sixth forms/ colleges further afield eg in Croydon as their school sixth form didn't do a subject they were interested in. Some move to specialistic music establishments such as Purcell or to the Brit School. If the stats were examined I would expect to find we do have alot of sixth formers doing A levels in Lewisham. It would have been far more meaningful to have the figures for proportion of sixth form aged residents of each Borough studying A levels. I think due to mobility, which is far greater for 16-18 year olds than 11 year olds, this is a meaningless study as it stands for the London Boroughs. Renata
  22. No, none of us are lawyers! Renata
  23. Ahh, sorry, I was checking between Peckham Rye and City Thameslink. The 8.01 and 8.16 stop at the other stations and this one doesn't so misses out on potential passengers!(better for those of you travelling from Peckham Rye but worse for the Nunhead and Denmark hill Passengers). Thanks Renata
  24. Hi ED, I think you mean the 9.10? I've just checked the timetable, there doesn't seem to be an 8.10 but there is a 9.10. This service is still poor, still too few trains, still a human sardine can. There may be extra capacity trains arriving over the summer (ie fewer seats). The big push needs to be 4TPH for this service in the 2018 timetable revamp, it does need it, with the developments at Catford etc and increased year on year demand at each station it's not getting any better! Renata
  25. Hi Convex, I would suggest you contact the primary school your child is going to and find out if they have a breakfast club and afterschool club. As Vick mentions above they can be very popular and you therefore may need to put your child's name down for September. There are also places outside schools that offer wrap around care, it may be worth asking the primary if they know of any that drop off and pick up from the school. Renata
