  1. Anyone know what is the business in the old Page 2/Costa Smeranda on Nunhead Lane? I passed it yesterday and the lights were on. It's a long time since the previous occupants left. Thanks Renata
  2. All offered means that everyone who applied for a place was eligible for a place (numbers actually applying would be much higher than places as everyone has 6 choices). It means there was no last place distance offer, if you lived 5km away you would have got a place. Renata
  3. It's the last day today, if you use the Catford loop (from Nunhead, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, via Blackfriars) please add your name to the consultation, this is for the long term timetabling from 2018: https://acinderellaline.formstack.com/forms/consultation#consult thanks Renata Renata Hamvas Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi all, > Thameslink are offering 4 trains an hour on the > Catford loop (via Nunhead, Peckham Rye and Denmark > Hill) in their consultation document. 4. Hi all, Thameslink are offering 4 trains an hour on the Catford loop (via Nunhead, Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill) in their consultation document. Two of these will only go as far as Blackfriars. I know many residents travel further, particularly to stops between Blackfriars and Kentish Town. They are proposing a 10/20 minute gap in the timetable, the trains should run every 15 minutes. We are supporting the Cinderella Line Campaign which is run by local residents for a better service on this Line. (They came and spoke to Council Assembly last week and we support this campaign). They have a petition which will be part of the Thameslink consultation. If you every use this service, please sign up ASAP as the consultation closes on the 8th December. 5. Hi aalisam, I suggest you use Google to find the phone number emails of the schools or look on the Southwark and Lewisham websites. Brenchley Gardens are hosting a craft fair on Saturday 10th December and they are seeking local residents to have stalls there, unless they are children's parkas this would probably be more suitable. Look for the message in the events page. Renata
  6. Hi Intexas, I agree paper garden refuse bags would be better, but Shell has already bagged the leaves up in the green food waste bags. These bags are biodegradable. The food waste is also turned into compost. Renata
  7. Hi Shell, if you leave the leaves in the green bags next to your brown bin, they should get collected on your brown bin collection day. The leaves will be composted at the recycling centre. If you have too much recycling for your blue bin than leave the overflow of recyclables in a clear bag next to your blue bin. Renata

  10. This year there doesn't appear to be a list of school fairs. They are useful, I think for parents applying to primaries in January 2017, particularly if you haven't been able to make it to open days. The ones I know about so far are below (in chronological order)and I suggest that if you know of more, copy my list and add yours on. 11. Hi, I wanted to report that the leaves are being cleared today. Mynamehere, the leaves will be collected up, go to the Southwark recycling centre and will be composted. The leaf clearing schedule is tweaked learning from experience as to which roads need it and how frequently. It appears that due to the mild autumn that leaf fall is quite late this year, so I have also asked how responsive the system is to timing/amount of leaf fall in a particular year. Renata
  12. Try local company Speedicars, their number is 86942244. Renata
  13. Hi all, I have reported this issue to Council officers. Barry Road isn't normally a road on the leaf removal schedule so I have requested that it is added in. Renata
  14. Hi Pipsky, I've just seen this and seen Peckham Rye Ward boundaries have been already posted! These will however be changing from 2018. The new ward map is here: https://consultation.lgbce.org.uk/node/5979 The constituency boundaries are also changing, but oddly, the Electoral Commission appears to be using the current ward boundaries as constituency boundaries. Renata
  15. Hi Zoe, welcome to the area. I would suggest you contact Athenlay Football club and/or Carrib https://www.facebook.com/Athenlay-Football-Club-111393445595443/ http://www.southwarkcaribbfc.co.uk/html/teams.html I don't know if you're on the Nunhead side of the Rye, if so, your daughter may be interested in Westminster House Youth Club. http://lovenunhead.co.uk/community/category/community-groups-and-clubs/member/westminster.house You may be interested in Southwark Cyclists http://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/ There are various things happening in the Green Community Centre on Nunhead Green and at the Ivyhouse Pub on Stuart Road. (I have assumed in all this that you live close to Harris Girls'). Guides and Taekwondo are present at a few local venues. It may be worth your daughter joining after school clubs at Harris Girls' to meet those amongst her peers who have similar interests to her. Good luck! Renata
  16. There are a couple of groups local to you (Nunhead), in the Buchan TRA hall on Buchan Rd and the Green Community Centre on Nunhead Green. Renata
  17. Hi Zee, this sounds very dodgy to me. If they have designated specialty in the arts, they can select part on their intake on that basis ie like Kingsdale does on sport and music. The CAF system is computerised and Londonwide. Everything goes by their published admissions policy. They cannot just call up the LA and select who they want! If you put them 6th and fulfill the admissions criteria and none of the 5 schools higher on your list, you will be offered it. If you meet the criteria of any of the 5 higher ones, you will be offered the one ranked highest on your list that can offer you a place. LA admissions teams don't deal with most of the place allocation, this is done by the computer. The instance where they do manually link people and places is where someone hasn't met the criteria for any of the schools they have applied to. In this case they match a child to the closest school that has places available within the LA. Renata
  18. About a week ago Harriet Harman and I attended a meeting between leaseholders, tenants, Wandle management and their Chair of Trustees. Around 70% of the leaseholders/shared owners have settled and have moved elsewhere. The properties being different sizes and different locations eg penthouse or ground floor, park view or not etc, also there are legal proceedings linked to the buildings; these could both be issues linked to the non-disclosure. This meeting was different to the previous ones in that it was noticeable that due to the settlements made by many of the leaseholders/shared owners that they were no longer present and this meeting was predominantly attended by tenants. Some of the remaining leaseholders/shared owners will move to temporary accommodation in the area and move back into their flats in Solomon's passage once the works are finished while others are still deciding what they wish to do. The tenants are starting to secure temporary accommodation in the area. An issue which is of concern to some of the families is, that in the next couple of years, due to children getting older and requiring their own room (eg young boys and girls who are currently sharing) that Wandle would take this into consideration in agreeing rentals. Wandle have said yes, they would take this into consideration ie funding would be provided for such a family for a three bed rather than a two bed like they currently occupy in Solomon's passage. There are individual situations (eg where families have members with a specific need)which makes the process more tricky. Some families are likely to move from the blocks to be demolished to the previous leaseholder/part owner properties. It has been an appalling situation for residents, is a slow process, communication has been far from ideal (very poor at times), but at least now there is some progress. We as Ward Councillors and Harriet Harman as their MP will continue to be involved in this process. We want to ensure that even the least vocal residents and those who are vulnerable are provided with a good accommodation solution by Wandle. Renata
  19. Hi Marilyn and Angela, I'm really sorry to hear about you being burgled. From experience, it is worth giving the Police any details you can of the stolen items in case they catch the people involved doing it again elsewhere(also check ebay and local pawn shops). It may be useful to look at this link: http://www.ourwatch.org.uk/ It may be worth considering having a burglar alarm installed; from discussions with crime prevention officers it appears that they do have a deterring effect. Renata
  20. Hi dontpanic, no school should be telling you to put them first! You should be placing schools in your order of preference. They do not know where you have ranked them. The whole system is London-wide and computerised. You will be allocated the highest ranked school on your list for which you fulfill the admissions criteria (eg you could be eligible for places at 3 of the schools, but you will be offered the school you put highest in your list out of those 3 schools). Your ranking will not affect the chances of you being eligible for a place, but you won't be offered a place if you are can be offered a place at a different school ranked higher on your list. Renata
  21. Hi dontpanic, I would suggest ringing the school. If they won't give you a response, the best thing you can do is rank Norwood school with your other options and put them in true order of preference. It is fine to have some schools on your list that are long shots as long as you have some that you would be in a high probability of securing a place for your child. Renata
  22. Today is the deadline for Secondary School applications. Please make sure you have submitted your application and received an email confirmation! Good luck with the process. Renata
  23. The new grading system will have an absolutely massive impact-on the level that schools that were getting around 80% achieving level 4 under the old system are likely to have around 50% pass under the new system (it's far far tougher). This is going on what has happened nationally. It's crazy IMO to have introduced a system where only half of the 2016 10-11 year olds have reached the required standard. Added into the pot are the 2017 new tougher A levels (linear with 25% more content) and English and Maths GCSEs with new grades 9-1 and the new pass being what was a "B" grade (all other subjects to follow in 2018)! All the local primaries have kept pretty quiet about their 2016 results, this is because they can't be compared to previous years' results. Renata
  24. GCSE results are being analysed in a different way. As well as the proportion getting 5 A*-C GCSEs including English and Maths, there is a new measure, Progress 8. Progress 8 is the progress pupils have made from year 7 to 11, with extra weighting for English and Maths. http://schoolsweek.co.uk/the-progress-8-measure-explained/ Harris Girls Academy East Dulwich was 8th nationally in 2016 St Thomas the Apostle Boys College was 12th nationally in 2016 Well done to the 2016 GCSE cohorts, parents and staff from both schools Renata
  25. The enclosure is being installed to try and prevent the dumping. It will be interesting to see if it works or just moves dumping next to the enclosure or people throw rubbish over the top. I'm a bit sceptical about this being successful, but I know residents are fed up with the grot spot and with the cost of removal so fingers crossed that it has the desired effect! Renata
