Hi all, I put in an enquiry about this. It's basically been removed due to flytipping. Renata Dear Cllr. Hamvas, The recycling site at Sainsbury's Dog Kennel Hill was removed owing to increasing levels of flytipping, much of it consisting of flytipped commercial waste. This was not only causing problems for Sainsbury?s and their customers, but causing contamination of the recyclable material, with general waste being dumped indiscriminately in the recycling bins. Because the site operated on private land, the council?s powers to monitor using CCTV and take prosecution actions against flytippers were very limited and therefore they were unable to control the growing problem. This meant the substantial cost of collecting and disposing of illegally tipped waste was carried by Southwark residents, with resources such as vehicles and staff being diverted to regularly clear the site. This has been a problem at a number of other sites, including the Peckham Rye Park site, which also closed recently. All the recyclable materials previously collected at the Sainsbury's site are also collected from households across Southwark through the household recycling service. As such, residents wanting to recycle such materials can already use their normal collections to dispose of them and there is no charge for using this service. The closure of the site should therefore have no effect on the services residents can use to recycle household waste. Residents with large amounts of cardboard to recycle and are not able to put it in their normal recycling bin can bring it to the Southwark Reuse and Recycling Centre (see http://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/reuse-and-recycling-centre) which is on Devon Street, just off Old Kent Road, or bring it to the Mobile Recycling Centre which visits Sainsbury's Dog Kennel hill on the first Wednesday of the month. Kind regards, Veolia Southwark, on behalf of Southwark Council.

New openings on Forest Hill Road
Renata Hamvas replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Nigello, as you thought, the shops are owned and the forecourts do belong to the individual freeholders who are responsible for their maintenance/repair. The pavements and forecourts have been surveyed by the Council and where forecourts are in disrepair, owners have been informed and told what needs to be done to them. The area is not a conservation area and so there isn't a benchmark way the forecourts need to look (they need to be safe though). I can't see owners replacing their paving just to make then look more uniform (it would be at their cost). Where issues with the pavement have been identified this is going to be fixed. Thanks Renata -
Hi all, the streets I reported should have been done now, most were done last week and a few earlier this week. The reason they weren't done with the brown bins is, the sheer number of trees and so separate street-by-street pickups were done where vehicles were too full. Thanks Renata

Hi Malumba, my post didn't save when I replied on here! (and I didn't notice) I have raised your issues with Rye Lane as casework. Renata

resurfacing of Peckham Rye Carriageway
Renata Hamvas replied to solar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Marcia, usually when buses are going to be on scheduled diversion there is notification at bus stops a few days before. If there wasn't, it's the bus company rather than Southwark failing as they are the ones who should have notified passengers. Renata -
Homestall Road Water leak APPEAL: Black ice crash
Renata Hamvas replied to missmack1981's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi all, I have just contacted Thames Water about the lack of action dealing with this leak and about the accidents. I would suggest if you haven't already done so, take photos of the site showing the water. I hope this is resolved soon as it is dangerous in the current weather conditions. Renata -
RE: Mature trees cut down around East Dulwich
Renata Hamvas replied to 85volga's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi all, mature street trees are cut down for a reason. This may be disease, instability or sometimes tree roots may be growing under a building causing movement and damage. I have investigated a few cases where street trees had been earmarked for removal and in all cases there was a good reason for the removal. Renata -
Hi REDD, Renata, a Peckham Rye Councillor here. I read the forum and significant amounts of casework come to me either directly or indirectly from the Forum (far more than eg from Ward Surgeries). Some council officers do look at it and I have sometimes copied threads and posted to them or directed them to one on the Forum. It is also a very useful way for me to inform local residents on matters of relevance to them eg recently, resurfacing works that are scheduled for Peckham Rye East. It actually spans way outside the East Dulwich area. I've assisted residents from Rotherhithe and from neighbouring Boroughs!

resurfacing of Peckham Rye Carriageway
Renata Hamvas replied to solar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Taper, I had noticed that myself about a week ago and asked Council Officers if there were plans for resurfacing there. I was told no, but now it's being looked into. Renata -
All reported (plus those via email). Nigella, I'm sure they will be done, just allow for a little time for the vans to get around the Borough. Thanks Renata

resurfacing of Peckham Rye Carriageway
Renata Hamvas replied to solar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi all, the road will be closed for two days. Bus route 363 will be diverted via Barry Road and Lordship Lane. 63s will be terminated at Peckham Rye The bus diversion routes are TFLs decision, not good at all for many residents who use these routes. For those at the Southern end of the 63 route (Forest Hill Road), I would suggest walking across the park and picking up a 343/484 or taking a P12 from Brenchley Gardens. Renata -
All reported, plus Calton Ave SE21 (reported via email) Renata

Thanks Loz,it does sound like it's number of trees that has meant some streets haven't been done. I'm adding the above mentioned atreets to my list and emailing officers about this. Thanks Renata

Hi all, they should be collected when brown bins are emptied. Please let me know which streets haven't had them collected so that I can report this. (it may be purely that the vehicles were full and they have to return to some streets.) So far I have Ashbourne Grove, Eynella Road and Dovercourt Road. Thanks Renata

Hi Miacis, if you have too many recyclables to fit in your blue bin, if you put the excess in a clear plastic bag next to you bin (ie so that the contents of the bag are clearly visible as recyclables) the bag will be collected when your blue bin is emptied. Renata

The should be collected on the day you put out your brown bins. Renata

Applying for state schools in 3 different boroughs
Renata Hamvas replied to SC2017's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi SC2017, you can definitely apply to more than one Borough. You apply via the Borough where you live and have 6 choices. (I am assuming that you are applying to go into reception rather than part way though primary). If your child is four or will turn four by 31st August you will need to apply by 15th January this year for a standard application. If this applies to you, and you move in the coming weeks, you will need to do a late application when you move. Renata -
New openings on Forest Hill Road
Renata Hamvas replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi, l will look into this and get back to you in 2017. Renata -
Hi carebear, it's absolutely fine to put a couple of long-shots at the top of your list. If you don't get those it doesn't reduce your chance to be offered the closest school. One thing I do want to add, however, please don't put only two schools down. You have 6 choices and it's best to use them if you can. The school you live very close to may be more popular than usual or there may more siblings than usual. It has happened that a school may have a last place offered distance of under 300m! Parents have been disappointed as they went by previous year's figures and assumed their child would get in. Renata

Talk to me about Guinea Pigs please
Renata Hamvas replied to madmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi madmum, there is a thread from a few months ago with details of local rescues which re-home guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are gregarious, it's best to have a pair of males or females that have been together since they were baby pigs. Renata -
I'm really sorry to hear about this awful incident mitchcoker. I hope they get caught before they have the chance to do this again. Renata
