Who says they are nasty carpets a bet a lot of people think that some of the ranges are very nice. And no I do not agree with you that he is uneducated and yes I do think that he can organise people to set up schools. His track record is there for all too see. And having seen what some of the academies are like I am not sure it will be at all bleak and depressing. I think being educated in porta cabins alongside a leaky old victorian school house is, which is exactly what was going on at that site for several years. As for sunshine house well obviously that is not good news, The liberals thought that the design for the academy was rubbish yet they seem to think sunshine house is amazing. Councillor Caroline Pidgeon, Southwark Council?s liberal Executive Member for Children?s Services and Education, said, ?Sunshine House is a fantastic new building and gleaming example of what we are doing in Southwark - putting children and young people at the heart of all our services and modernising them in a way that makes them more responsive to the needs of those who use them and better equipped to meet those needs." Maybe they need to take some educational lessons from someone who knows about good design ? Lord foster perhaps ?....oh no there's that lord thing again ! -
...no it's not called voting, not sure if you have noticed but since America led the way with it's vote rigging, the rest of the world has followed. Voting is a bankrupt concept.

There are only 750 fulltime places in the school with the other 200 coming in the form of 6th formers. And it looks like the 6th form will be shared between the 2 sites. Anyone who has attended the 6th form will know that it operates slightly outside of the main school timetable. The school will not be up to full capacity until 2015 anyway, plenty of time for them to discover they have made a miscalculation, if that is indeed the case. Maybe they will build a seperate 6th form block, possibly on the Foxtons site then everybody will be happy !!!!! -

...Why would he be wanting to Cram pupils into one school ? I think all proposals should be scrutinised not just the one's that could win more vote's for one particular political party. On the otherside of the rye is a lovely new set of flats with an underground car park and a glass penthouse. But go and stand in one on the gardens of the victorian terraces that back onto this thing and tell me how that got approved ? Or the fact that the Labour councillors had to fight tooth and nail in Nunhead to get Nunhead Green designated as a conservation area, despite opposition from the Southwark Executive who saw it as a great place to build lot's of cheap housing away from ED ? -
Governments and local councils have flouted the rules and Law since time began, are we able to kick them out of office ?Maybe they are just setting an example to everyone else, so what's the problem ?

Well in sense that he pulled himself up , yes, and the fact that he is from the borough. People like this are role models that the youth of today need, he may be white but there are an awfull lot of people from other backrounds from this borough who are equally as inspiring, they may not be worth 260 million and may not have the title of lord, but they have certainly have worked hard and taken what on the surface seems to be the harder route to better their and their families lives. obviously we need inspiring teachers to make the school a success, no doubt about it. . -

You are using design as a reason to try and get this School stopped. You are just running around in circles with your arguments so lets just agree to disagree. As for "I find the idea of a school run by some uneducated bloke who ran some nasty carpet shops utterly unacceptable anyway" it's ridiculuous. The man was born and raised in the Borough and actually attended Streatham Grammar School. He left at the age of 15 after the premature death of his Father and took over the running of 3 small local carpet shops, he is now worth something in the region of 260 million. As for sunshine house being 'afflicted' it has a great range of facilities and the building improves services for children with special needs, disabilities and other vulnerabilities. -

What the posting 'explains' as you put it and what the underlying message actually is are two completely separate things. The use of the term 'Decreed' betrays the fact that someone feels like they are being dictated to and therefore sets a negative tone for the rest of the posting. If it was about design you would say something about getting the design right for this wonderful new school that is going to provide a new centre of learning in the heart of our vibrant community, as I am sure you will agree. -

Sorry, it does not. It implies that in order to try and resist this proposal, "fight clever". Thats is exactly what it says. -

"But at a design meeting, fight clever and fight on design, not the rest of the issues." That reeks if self interest.......nice -

Thanks Keef, sorry lozz let's hope we don't ban ED residents from Dulwich Park or Nunhead and Peckham Rye park, you have your own park at Goose Green, imagine all those buggies in such a small space! sounds a bit of a silly proposal though does it not ? Anyway back on thread now.... So it looks liek Nero's will be staying then ?

Christ ! You 2 Councillors don't half talk some rubbish. Basicallly you think by seeming to stand up to cafe Nero you are making yourselves look good and winning votes on the side. Quotes like 'destroying people's lives' are just ridiculous if you were concerned about noise pollution you would have passed a local law that prohibited houses being split into 2/3 flats without any money being spent on adequate sound insullation. This truly is a blight on many people's lives. Noise polution is a nighmare and i have no doubt that if you can hear those air con units it will really start to do your head in. As for they (Nero) never bothered to turn up to meeting it is probably because they are a huge multi national with a lot of money and power and you are a small group of local councillors and no doubt barelly register with them. Rather like the attitude the Liberal Executive at Southwark council seem have towards the residents of Nunhead & Peckham Rye. And just like Cllr Thomas says in his blog. "Certainly, their attitude to their neighbours is not a model of corporate social responsibility." or we could slightly change it and say "Certainly with regard to Nunhead & Peckham Rye the liberal Executives attitude to their neighbours is not a model of shared social responsibility."

Hit the nail right on the head - Nunhead/Peckham Rye ward is Labour & and the East Dulwich Ward Is Liberal. Hence No money for Nunhead, no discussions with Nunhead. -
Cool I hear what you are saying. With regard to size I am not sure how many examples there are of new schools suffering from over crowding at the opening it is too basic a mistake to make, there are after all building regulations to stop that kind of thing. Main roads and traffic are a part of everyone's lives now days they have always been a danger hence the emphasis on road safety. The Academy in Peckham is on an extremely busy road, as is Rosendale, Jags and Oakfield. I am not sure what can be done about traffic anymore than are the government or opposition parties. But anyway I get your point.

Actually know that PRA has mentioned it, maybe some money should be spent on brightening the Mural up. The original artist seems very much alive.

Oh well, shame about the one by the side of the EDT that was very old. They chose to save those kind of things around westbourne grove, infact some of them are listed. Glad your Old Skool, afterall it is the last retreat of a middle class who have lost touch with Fashion. And no of course there are no shit school's another conspiracy obviously. I was behind the bar at the dog on Friday ...maybe that was your problem !! Only joking i would have robbed the till and bought you all free drinks...and some olives... x -
What a load of tosh SPC....laughable.....have a drive down the south circular Dulwich College, Oakfield, Rosendale or near Alleyns and Jags very very busy roads infact A roads some of them. As for lord Haris wanting to make money I am sure he can think of a quicker way to increase his fortune than an innner city school in Peckham Common. As for 2 cars can pass each other in hollydale you cleary need to check the measurements on your tape measure. You could never get a bendy bus down Hollydale and you have 1 every 8 minutes going down your way...And how will this school impact on your life ? If all the schools around East Dulwich Grove and Dulwich village are not a blight on their residents lives why is this one school going to destroy the fabric of your society ?
