  1. Nick Stanton, the Lib Dem leader of Southwark Council, has revealed the local authority is considering a number of options ? including closing leisure centres, halting regeneration projects and cutting social services due to a 30million pound budget shortfall. Will the regeneration of the leisure center in ED stop ? or will it just have to close ?
  2. DM, so the 2 children in the playground lost in a cloud of insects during the hot summer months are your's I presume ?
  3. Except for the fact that Dulwich Village Infants is more exclusive and virtually impossible to attend due to it's catchment area and the fact that most of the houses that reside within it are close to 1million quid. It's virtually a private school funded by the state. Buy yes the quality of the schools in and around ED are rising fast. outside of Dulwich infants St Anthonys catholic school nr Dulwich library has the best set of exit stats.
  4. White Stuff, Oliver Bonas ! Leslie Ash on the horizon looking for her first members club venue in ED or should I say East Clapham by 2010
  5. When crystal palace re-opens in hopefully June - it's the best without a doubt - there is nothing like ripping up 50metres and feeling your heart and lungs nearly catch fire !
  6. The southwark "we are the liberal and true English mafia" council leadership has just annnounced that as there are no vote winners living in the Aylesbury estate they will not be able to go ahead with the regeneration for at least another few years ! (see Nunhead Regeneration as example 7 years and not so much as a bendy lamp post). To get over any accusations of near criminal bias they will blame central government and make out they would have to cut public services in the borough to pay for the estates regeneration. This could mean that Dulwich park lake would not get it's water filtered through hand reared and free range spatchcock spliens , that welsh cobblestones may not get layed up Northcross Road and that the brand new fence in goose green may not get ripped up and replaced with organic briars and morris men directing pedestrians. The fact that they spent 5.5 million this year on council adverts, the highest in the country, apparently is not an issue. I wanted to add something about the Leader of the southwark and East Dulwich council, Mr Nick Stanton, but actually cannot find within me the words that I should type
  7. translate - f*&^ off back to Clapham
  8. On the roundabout i would like to see: A working model of a lady firing Organic ping pong balls out of her .........
  9. Snorky - such simple observations and so correct.... you would have to be in some deluded state that made you think you were in some kind of new middle class that was secretly more informed than the rest of the uk not to see what it is that you are saying.
  10. I know where you are coming from Chav - unfortunately because no one on Blue Peter ever wore one when these people were growing up they probably find them quite threatening.
  11. Yes probably, but that will be all my face powder doing that !
  12. Oh no don't do that michael - after all you are single handedly propping our Public Houses up with all your private sector coinage. And who would we laugh at on a sunday, with your silk shirts, French wigs and powdered face. Are you still carrying your rapier with you ? It could just be coincidence or circumstance or it could be that the local police have views about certain areas that may need to be addressed. They should not be reacting to calls depending on the level of politcal/residential pressure that may be applied after the event.
  13. Just to throw this handgranade in the mix Some time back there was an incident in Nunhead in one of the backstreets that threatened to get out of control, the police were called straight away. 1hour later and several more phone calls they still had not arrived. It was early evening and not a weekend. Some of the locals pacified the situation and caught some of the offenders, the police still did not arrive -eventually some 1.5 hours later the police eventually threatened to arrest the next person that called them, so I did and I asked them to come and arrest me, as well as telling them in no unceratin terms how let down we all felt. They never came and the culprits eventually went on their way. 2 hours later I was in a road near Dulwich village when someone tried to put an object through a car window, they fled and the car amazingly was undamaged, the police arrived within 5 minutes ? Absolutely true.
  14. fantastic idea - I can see it now Nunhead Grammar, steam trains and harry potter !
  15. Not interested in winding anyone up at all, there are far more important issues at stake. And maurice i hear what you are saying but Bellendon is Bellendon, it's not the same although lessons can be learnt, like lamposts that look like something from war of worlds are a step to far !
  16. what happened to my post !
  17. I take it all back then !
  18. Great idea I thought
  19. Bloody Romans
  20. LozzyLozz we could not really give a toss about you over in ED to be honest although the high street, shops, traffic, schools, train and bus services and crime we do care about ! We also care about the Lib council spending all the money in ED to shore up their power base while the surrounding areas get left to their own under funded devices.
  21. Thanks mark _ it's not doom and gloom , but is has been left out and promises have been broken. And no loozyloz we do not want it to be anything other than Nunhead with it's own unique character. ED has retained character throughout the regeneration of the last 8 years and has more than enough spirit to fight of harmoginisation. It's not about gentrification/poncification, house prices have long since gone from 155000 to 420000+ for a terrace so things have already moved but there is a mix of housing stock anyway. There is a local business forum being set up and it is working hard, so things are moving but they need some support as well. There are a number of empty shops at the moment and lots of developers are circling, we do not want a high street full of flats, 2 shops already have nice double glazed flat doors, very sad and signed of by local council. Once it starts all the interesting businessess will fold.
  22. It's called the Pyrotechnicists Arms because it stands where an old Firework factory used to be. And there was a nunnery where the Old Nuns Head now stands. And I do not suggest it is an inwardly collapsing shithole, that?s out of order. It's doing ok - we have some new businesses, the new frog on the green deli, the restaurant, and the little butchers has changed hands and the guy is trying really hard. It would be nice if the council weighed in with a clear plan/vision and some kind of financial incentives The regeneration team were supposed to move from Bellendon to Nunhead years ago so what has happened? And now we are in a period of consumer uncertainity the lane has been left out cold in the coming storm. They could also offer some oportunites to new busnesses and see who knocks on the door. Maybe even advertise the area to people who want to start something but are being outpriced in ED.
  23. Thanks for the support Keef - it's a simple point really !
  24. Thanks for the support Keef. I am glad you put it so simply.
  25. Lots of action thanks - why do you have a list or some point system, some people can not even get out of there houses or have mental health issues does that mean that if they do not physically participate they do not count ? Everyone does there own thing in there own way. This idea that if you go to a meeting you own it and everything to do with it is a very middle class concept? There are thousands of people dong things everyday, to picking up litter or talking to kids about their attitude, it is all relevant. And as for house prices in ED are worth more thats a joke. Dulwich village has gone up ED has gone up and Nunhead has gone up it's all relative. And the private sector has done what to ED ? Er what Jo Jo maman Bebe, Foxtons the White Stuff or Northcross Road - which incidently is where the real change in ED began - A small parade of eclectic shops, now a weekend market street.
