More Dogs in Peckham Rye Park
DulwichFox replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My Mum's Uncle was a Parkie so I remember him coming round in his uniform when I was about 5 years old. He was in Addington square Camberwell. My mum used to tell me he was a Policeman and it was time for me to go to bed.. Did not argue even though he was a kind man.. Fox.. -

And the lampposts already have the power sockets fitted. I think some of the trees that are there do have white lights supllied by some local shops.. Does look nice. Fox

More Dogs in Peckham Rye Park

When I was a kid, all the parks, even the small gardens had 'Parkies' Park Keepers They were dressed in Brown with flat caps and were really strick and scary. They 'lived' in a little Wooden Hut and would decend from nowhere. No kids messing around. You would get a clip round the ear. and no one sued any body. No dogs crapping on the paths. No body dropping litter. Well there was the occasional scrap of paper but the Parkie had a little stick and a small bag to deal with that. I suppose I will get critised for harping on about the past. But people really did have more respect back then. Peckham rye is beautiful with wild bits which are great for kids to explore. The gardeners do a great job keeping the park nice. Some dog ]owners spoil it for others. Most of the young kids around the cafe are well behaved because there are things to do. Why do we not have 'Parkies' any more. I suppose they would not have the same impact today. They would be told to go do something. Fox -
How to get a stall on North Cross Road market?

There was a time when you could do that. Apply for a licence. Get nescessary 3rd party liability insurance. Turn up on the day. Pay the Market porter or what ever he was called. Not that simple now. -

When you pay ?4.20 for a beer in a pint glass that has a 1" head of froth. Depending on the glass you are getting 1/5 - 1/4 pint of froth. 1/5 pint head 4/5 pint ?4.20 ---- Full pint ?5.25 1/4 pint head 3/4 pint ?4.20 ---- Full Pint ?5.60 That's why pubs use unlined glasses with wide Heads instead of lined(Pint to Line)Glases Drinking 2 Halves will be even more expensive. Always ask for you pint to be topped up.. Fox member of CAMRA...

I have no intention of moving out for a few louts and yuppies?? or whst ever they are called now.. It is a very English thing to move to an area and try to change it. Like the Brits abroard syndrone.. The people who went to live in Spain but hated the Spanish, refused to learn Spanish and turned a little bit of Spain into a little bit of England. Come and live in ED. But don't try and change it, and learn the language so to speak. Fox. -

cool shops, bars and restaurants,??? Where are they then...??? You mean the Arty Farty craft shops. The Over priced rowdy 'Pubs'? bars. The over priced Restaurants. The ones that make a fortune and pay their staff less than the minimum wage.. (relying on Tips) Do nothing for the community.. There is nothing cool about people urinating in your front garden or being sick on your doorstep. I speak to people in the bars of ED. They seem to come to ED to eat and drink but do not live here. A couple I spoke to said they came from Putney cab fare ?20.00 and ?30.00 for a late night cab home. Are there no decent Pubs/Bars in Putney ??? -

I think I prefered ED when it was undiscovered and shops and pubs catered for local people. It was a quiet residential area and locals gathered in their 'Local' Pub for a chat and find out latest gossip. If you walk down Lordship Lane late on a Fri/Sat night it is like being in Malia / Ibiza. It is crazy. Pubs I used to use are now filled with 'Tourists' and clientel seem to change on a weekly basis. dont know where they all come for, but hardly ever see the same faces week by week. Shops now selling non essensials. have no value to the local community. ED cannot cope with this huge influx of people and has now lost all it's character. couture said.. Positive interest = more customers = more trade = business expansion = increased employment Yes. more traffic/cars/congestion/pollution/people/rubbish/noise/vandalism/crime/robbery/begging. Fox. -
Hi Mick Mac I have been in the same situation... My iPod Touch supports BBC iPlayer so the the iPad certainly does... Does not require Flash for that. The Samsung is supposed to support Flash but Dixons, PC World, and Curry's have not been able to demo it. When I tried my own Flash site, it needed Flash player to be installed. (Not pre installed, Thats Normal) When I tried to download Flash it asked for Passwords / set up a Google Account. Do not know why it was asking this just to download Adobe Flash Player. It is personal preference between the two... Fox PS. I am confused now.. Looking at the BBC iplayer page says you need the latest version of Flash Player. ???(?) Yet I have watched Eastenders on my ipod Touch....Confused?

DulwichFox replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, Yes the 20 MPH signs are up in Whateley Rd ... But at the end of Ulverscroft road, the old sign.. '20 MPH Zone Ends. 30 MPH' are still in place. This is very misleading. Have PM'd you. Mick -
Best way to get to Gatwick is by Plane... Done it many times.

Sorry about your burglary and your car... This may help cheer you up... Back in 1982 I had a Skoda tha had rusted away. The MOT ran out as did the TAX. The council put a notice on it saying I had 2 weeks to get it Taxed or it would be towed away. After a couple of days it was gone. I called the council but they said they had not taken it yet, but was due to. I called the Police and told them my car had been stolen. They asked me what make of car it was ? I told them it was a Skoda. and they said. .... 'Skoda?? They don't count.' Honest. you could not make that up. Never saw my car again.. Fox

I am not one to give out positive comment lightly. But I really cannot give enough Praise to John Lewis. I use the one at Bluewater. The staff there are Polite, Courteous, Helpful. Well Trained. (It does show) Their after sales sevice is second to none. They do compensate very well when things happen to go wrong. The people they use to deliver goods are also very helpful. And they do sell quality goods. Love Browsing there. Could easily spend ?1,000's if I had it to spare Fox

Could be a dead mouse in the loft or elsewhere has been host to fly larvae which have now hatched. Happend to me. Kept seeing more flys every day for about two weeks. Just have to keep doors/windows open until the eventually all leave. Fox

I know that if I am woken up by foxes during the night my car is safe. When I am woken up by drunken yobbos walking down the middle of my road at 3.00am I am not so sure. It is a priviledge to come across a fox in town. Fox.

Main cost would probably be Insurance, Police, Security. Funny that as a public event people can sit around drinking all day. Any other time, if you went there for a picnic and opened a bottle of wine you could have it confiscated and face prosicution. Nearly always rains anyway.
