  2. Went out last night to Lordship Lane... My pub The Bishop was closed.. Open today.. Went to Jaflong for a Curry. Restaurant was empty as were most other places.. I appeal to People to reclaim our Lane. Go out and have a meal. Go out and have a beer. Go out and buy something from our local shops.. Support our community. Support our shops, restaurants, bars and Pubs.... Do not hide away at home... Go out and enjoy youselves... Dunkirk spirit ...

There is no flat bit at the left turn into Sainsburys. I drive up there and also walk up there for exersise. The hill does not flaten out until the second set of light at Champion HIll right at the top.
  4. duffy10 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I can't really see the point in having a bus lane for that short stretch. That stretch of Road. I.E. Dog Kennnel Hill is very steep and diffifcult for Buses to negotiate if they have Stop/Start all the time, especially when they are full. Being able to go straight up the Hill makes this a lot easier. Buses do struggle to restart when they have to stop at the lights, half way up. The question of where to join the inner lane is a bit iffy. ?? If you stay in the outer lane until the Dotted lines, then sometimes it is difficult to swap lanes in order to turn left.. Fox.. Fox

I thought this too... 200-300 local residents could of seen off the 50 so yobs in ED last night. But any stand off would seem to attract more yobs to the area making a bad situation worse. Fox

  11. Despite the smoking ban pubs and bars in ED are packed out on Thurs Fri Sat. The Bishop, The Actress, to name just two.. The fact that Capital Pubs Shares rose from 118p to 232p Jan-Jul 2011 bears testament to this.. Many Pubs in run down areas have closed due to high Drinks prices.. and lack of modernization and poor management. They were sold of many years ago for as little as a ?1.00 for someone to take them over. The Bishop when it was the Foresters on some Saturdays they were lucky if they had 20 people in there. You Could smoke back then. Now on a Saturday there could be 150-200 in the evening with passing trade all day... More people now eat in these smoke free areas. Good Pubs have never had it so good.. It is total nonsense to try and blame the smoking ban on badly run pubs closing down...

Pubs had gardens for people to sit outside to enjoy the fresh air, and a place where children could be with their parents as the kids were not allowed inside.. (Now we see pubs filled with babies and children inside all day....) A Pub garden is as much a Puplic place as a Park, Railway Station, even if technically they are private. Any place the General Public are allowed to use, (paying or free) is a public place. Smokers argue they have the right to choose to smoke or not. Non smokers have to share their smoke so do not have a choice. Smokers argue quote:- If you don't like the smoke then you simply don't go there. No If you want to smoke, You go somewhere else... Fox
  13. The guy knocking on your door is not using self-initiativity. He is one of many carrying identically packaged bundles probably supplied by some 'Fagin' like Character. This is obvious as it would seem an area is selected and targeted on any one night. It is unlikely he will see much of the money he collects..
  14. Not sure how long the new plastic pipes will last, but they will probably outlast the availability of natural gas who experts estimate will last 50 - 65 years... Having said that the cost of replacing these pipes plus the regular Gas Price increase will mean people not being able to afford Gas long before then..

    a joke

A guy takes his new girlfriend to an expensive restaurant. As they sit looking at the Menu, the guy spots Sir Bob Geldof in the far corner surrounded by his friends. The guy tells his girlfriend she has a a mark on her face and needs to go to the bathroom. While she is away, he goes over to Bob's table and says to Bob... "Excuse me Sir Bob. My name in Dave,I am here with my girlfriend,it is her bithday and she is a great fan of yours. she has just gone to the bathroom, but when she returns, could you please come over and say.... Hello Dave. how you doing man. Who's this beautiful lady you're with tonight." Bob happens to be in a good mood and agrees. As the couple sit eating their starters, the guy says to his girlfriend , "Don't look now but Sir Bob GeldofBob is sitting over there." As the girl automatically looks over Sir Bob sees this as his cue.. Sir Bob comes over to their table and says... "Hello Dave. how you doing man. Who's this beautiful lady you're with tonight." The guy looks up at Geldof and says. "Sod off Geldof, how many times do I have to tell you. Don't interupt me when I am in company"
  21. It is now hard to believe that people used to smoke upstairs on a bus.... The only reason this ever became 'acceptable' was that buses used to be open topped. Trains had smoking and no smoking compartments.. That was all stopped way back ... Well I'm not too sure.. Smoking continued in Pubs and worst still in Restaurants. I am not saying that I have never smoked in a pub because I have although I have never thought it correct to smoke in restaurants when others are eating.. Once in a restaurant whilst I was just starting my meal, the table of Hoorays next to me asked "eehhr, darling, do you mind arfully if we smoke "? "Not at all", I said, " Do you Mind if I fart"... A silence fell around the place with a few titters from other tables.... Shame. Due to the smoking ban, cannot use that line any more..
  22. CHELSEA GARDENS LIMITED, established 1997-06-04 According to Companies House the status of CHELSEA GARDENS LIMITED is currently Dissolved. Read Here I suspect they may be just getting rid of left over stock... Quite normal once VAT clearance has been given.

  24. A Burger is a Burger is a Burger.. Basically the best Tasting Burgers are one with a High Fat Content. 15-20% I.E. Those made from Cheaper cuts of Meat... They are also the unhealthiest. Although No Burgers are Healthy.. None. Burgers made from more expensive cuts like Fillet Steak tend to be Dry and Tasteless and rely on Relish and dips for flavour... Fox

Not saying smokers are to blame for the destruction of the Earth... Patio Heaters help towards that... Not many establishments had them before the Smoking Ban.. Now they are everywhere Patio heaters installed by pubs to keep smokers warm on chilly nights could soon produce as much carbon dioxide as a small city, it has been claimed. Next month's smoking ban has triggered huge demand for the gas-fired heaters from pubs, restaurants and clubs creating legal outdoor smoking areas. But according to experts, a single heater releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year than the average fuel-hungry "Chelsea tractor" - a large 4x4 car. They estimate the additional patio heaters bought by pubs this year could produce up to 320,000 additional tons of carbon dioxide. That was back in 2007 .... READ
