I am peeved by the coaches outside Alleyns
Curmudgeon replied to Curmudgeon's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The coach situation is generally much improved as I've already mentioned. EDMummy - good summary thank you JBarber I appreciate your comments and the proposal of the additional yellow lines but I would dismiss your contention that the majority of students are local for if indeed they were there would be no need for coaches overspilling the existing provision of 5 to 6 coach spaces, particularly as there are an additional 3 outside JAGS. I both cycle and drive to work and back and Townley Road is the most direct route so that I can get to work in a state school and pick up my children from a state school, I still have no issue with private schools ... merely with the past disregard for road users and the local community. -

I am interested in the way that all of a sudden a problem recognised by one constituent is not actually a problem because of the fact that these schools bring money into the community. What? So if I throw a few grand around I can park whereever I like causing an obstruction to other road users? Really? I wish I'd known that before. As an aside the situation has been much improved this week which is a relief and I'm pleased that I complained to both school and local council. -
Baby led weaning is hardly rocket science I am shocked that a company could form around it - it's just giving your child food at 6 months that isn't mushed and spoon-fed Here if you want support http://babyledweaning.com/forum/

Anyone been to Turkey on holiday with kids?
Curmudgeon replied to ladywotlunches's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes - but I would advise drinking bottled water though - even turkish natives avoid drinking water straight from the tap, or so we were told last year by some Turkish natives. -

that would assume that the independent schools in Dulwich serve local children in the main, which I don't believe they do in the main, although I'm sure there are some local children there. Not that that's wrong. All for parental choice -

The lady I spoke to at the school was very lovely. I have also complained to the council and today I saw uniforms on the road and fewer coaches, the coach bay had a couple of spaces but I still had to swing out around the bollards. -
Parking badly, causing traffic to swing out. Too many coaches outside the coach bays. Today I actually had to drive on the wrong side of the bollards to get down Townley Road. I am peeved and perturbed and feel grumpy. I have complained to the school, who else may I complain to? Disgruntled Curmudgeon of East Dulwich

I have a bus comment. I cycle quite regularly down East Dulwich Grove and the 37 bus drivers constantly drive far too closely to me .. they do swing out to avoid the cycle but then swing back in really tightly before they have cleared so the back end follows really close to the cycle making me feel that one day I'm going to end up under their wheels. Anything that could be done in terms of asking the drivers to take a bit more care of cyclists would be appreciated.

Townley Road new junction layout
Curmudgeon replied to Nicholas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a regular cyclist and driver down that road the new layout is far safer and eminently more sensible IMHO -
I do not believe that a school office would take that so lightly

ahh yes he came to us at lunchtime just as I was serving up the food. Told him we got Ocado . They could have considered their times better. I hate door to door

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Mick I'd just like to tell you that I shared your preconceptions about Academies. No way was I even thinking of considering the 'arris academies for my children. However I have close connections with a new Academy in Lambeth and I have to tell you that you would be amazed at the opportunities, expectations, discipline and enthusiasm in this new Academy. It fulfills my expectations of private education and for free. I am not saying that all Academies are like this / will be like this but if a school in Lambeth can achieve what this school has then I wouldn't dismiss them before at least visiting and learning about them. I liked the australian girl who was the first member of staff when Jacks first opened - she was wonderful. Haven't much liked any of the staff (except James) since then really - although the older woman with the reddish hair was always cheery - is that Fi?

She's 6. I'd spend some time remembering what concerned you when you were 6. I'm sure it was trees and friends and tooth fairies. She's 6. You're potentially getting caught up in the ratrace. She's happy, she has interested, involved parent(s) she'll be fine. Private school or state school up to you. She's 6
