  1. I understand, but feel free to correct me if you know better, that posting the details of an incident would not result in a witness that can be relied upon by the police / courts as basically you have told them the details and are looking for corrobation I would personally edit severely to "anybody witness an attack on Bellenden road" - please contact the police as a witness
  2. Free School Meals for all primary school children will be across all Southwark primary schools in September ie next academic year
  3. as a parent of primary school children in ED I would also prefer the money to be spent elsewhere - although it's a nice boon - one of my children will not eat the school meals provided even if they paid him - hates the gristly meat and overcooked veg
  4. Agree with the comments re LL carpets - they were great 10 years ago but last year quoted us 3 times the cost for a single carpet that we eventually paid by going to Brockley (an extra 5 minutes up the road, efficient, friendly and decently priced) - the quoter was also patronising and vaguely rude, although the original salesman had been lovely
  5. was always advised to give both paracetomal and ibuprofen to my children - by GPs and paeds at Kings - from 4 - 9 years ago also hospital will administer both together

I find this confusing - why would Evelyn Grace Academy be irrelevant - if it's seen as a boot camp that's surely because it appears to share the same mission as the 'free school' you were discussing earlier - surely discipline, uniform, competition, extended days of the free school will result in the same as it is the same goals Also why is it irrelevant - it's in Herne Hill, just over the border from us - surely it could alleviate the pressure you talk about if people applied for it?
  7. Really confused about that description for a new free school in Lambeth because it sounds exactly like the new Evelyn Grace Academy in Lambeth which has been open for 3 years now
  8. I think I must be deaf as I've never been bothered by aircraft noise in the many years I've lived in ED
  9. Their children are aggressive bullies Your children are overly-excitable and going through a phase My children are highly sensitive plus ca change
  10. were you really surprised to be told to F off though? I would have totally expected that kind of response
  11. there is a difference between strict and regimented happy for my children to go to a strict school but only one where they learn to self-moderate too I think, from what I hear, that Harris Boys has the balance of discipline against carrot wrong for the demographics of this area

My issue with Kingsdale, and believe me I would send my children there with no qualms at all, is the lack of transparency over the scholarship offering and the funding of it - I think it is important to provide clarity on these - I think that architects and engineers and foreign delegations do visit schools - but I don't think that they pay for it - it's community PR surely?

Really? I'm sorry I'm not sure I actually buy that
  14. different heads and senior leadership teams, some went into special measures which meant more money, capital investment in the schools providing far improved facilities (this scheme is now defunct) and different demographics of the area
  15. My understanding of the Kingsdale music, sport and maths scholarship is that they are a salve to the middle classes - they have no bearing on whether a child is offered a place but if they are offered a place then the child gets one to one tutoring to the value of about 1K the money is not extra to the school budget but is assigned to those children who qualify - I would really like to see transparency on this element to be honest - where is the money coming from, which area is getting a little less for them to be able to concentrate resources on a few over the many? I applaud their initiative but it seems to me that they start relationships with families by offering less than clarity

  17. Vaccines don't give lifelong immunity I think a mild disease like chickenpox is best if caught early in life rather than later - porridge oat baths do the trick
  18. Some children need holding and reassuring during a meltdown Others need to be left alone to calm down with you popping in every minute or so with a "when you're calm we can do x" You just need to work out which one you have (or which tantrum it is) I would avoid the bed to be honest and just walk away from her as long as she's in a safe place if it's the latter
  19. Whilst I agree that standard education policy in the UK leaves much to be desired and the focus on reading at earlier and earlier ages is counter-productive and somewhat ridiculous I also know that some children leave steiner education never having learned to read
  20. NappyLady there's a 50% chance your girls will be carriers of the gene not a 100% chance Hope that is helpful
  21. well no not if inherent racism, bizarre curriculum coverage and anthroposophy comes into play you can't http://www.waldorfcritics.org/active/concerns.html
  22. no point taking a 2 year old to a GP about this IMO because they are not clear communicators give it a couple of years and then reassess
  23. I have friends who went through Steiner education and were horrified as adults at what they felt they suffered 2 sides to every story Steiner Waldorf have a huge marketing campaign behind them ensure if you've never heard of this you discover the origins and debate that rages about it that's all I'm saying
  24. it is extremely normal for young children to mix up their colours they say the words randomly rather than "oh what a lovely green" I wouldn't be concerned at this stage
