  1. Snorky, we can debate this all day, and still find that every good intention turned out to be wrong, but does that mean we want powerful countries to always turn a blind eye to what's happening around the world?
  2. Throughout history, every powerful country is guilty of gettng it wrong, unfortunately, and does that mean powerful countries should stop trying to make things right? Britain is no exception. Should we judge all Americans by their leaders? Should we judge all British by Gordon Brown or Tony Blair or Ken Livingstone? I don't think we can be so prejudiced and still call ourselves an intelligent, enlightened society.
  3. Is anyone doing anything really romantic tomorrow to celebrate Valentine's Day?
  4. I think Brugges and Gent are lovely this time of year, Durham only needs one day unless you combine it with Newcastle and Edinburgh. End of March is still Easter holiday for many schools so consider how much you like being around lots of children everywhere you go!!!!Easter falls early this year - 23rd March. Why have you decided not to fly??? I would head to Prague myself.
  5. Snorky What or where is the 'top of Long Island?'
  6. I think wearing seatbelts are necessary and they do save lives, however being issued with a ticket seems petty when kids are out there being mugged, and people are robbed and seriously injured on trains and buses daily. I would like to see more resources and manpower concentrated on more serious offences.
  7. I have parents already!!!!
  8. getting back on the subject, should Obama ask Ted Kennedy to be his running mate?
  9. Good to have you back!!!!Sorry to hear about your friend. Italian......I know the problem.
  10. The Americans living in the US know that Clinton left the economy with a surplus and Bush had a field day spending it. The economy for many Americans started losing ground when the war started.
  11. all of the americans I know are voting democrat......they are extremely worried about another 8 or even 4 years under a republican administration. Just have a look at the issues..... the war and the economy are both the result of poor republican leadership.....
  12. Thanks to everyone who responded. I've spoken with a police officer who said its not worth fighting as it was probably a rookie with nothing better to do that day and he had to score a few points to get the practice!!!! I wear my seatbelt like that because I have a back problem and its more comfortable. I should have a doctor's note for it.
  13. If America is not ready for a woman or AfroAmerican president, then how can you explain their success in the polls so far?
  14. I was pulled over yesterday by the police for not having my seat belt on. I actually did have it on, but under my arm rather than over my shoulder. I explained this was the case and was issued with a ?30 fine anyway. Does anyone know what the regulations are regarding seatbelts? Are there any police officers who read this forum?
  15. Good point about the guns Michael. America should become a land of knives, drunken teenagers, teenage pregnancies, and football lunatics......what a model to strive for
  16. How was the turn out last night???
  17. Its absolutely freezing in NY in February, so dress warm!! Spend some time in Central Park and be sure to hit the sales at Macy's.
  18. McCain wants to up the troop numbers in Iraq and thinks that Rumsfeld did a good job.......that is hardly anti -war.
  19. Americans hate the war and are much worse off economically since the Republicans took over. That's all that matters right now. Bill delivered the goods, and putting Hillary in the White House will put Bill back there as well. I think, as Paragon says, there is no other option. MP Bush went into Iraq to finish a job his father started and failed.....and his advisers were dreamers.
  20. Tough is necessary when pushed into a corner, or willing to take a stand on something....Tony Blair was not tough enough....a good diplomat, wise and intelligent, but not a tough leader. All of those qualities are necessary.....Bush is tough but stupid....very deadly combination.
  21. I'm not sure he could be tough enough when called on.....shame Rudy dropped out. I would like to see a woman in the White House.....especially one who has been around the block a few times, and has the inside experience of having almost been there and done it. She was usually the voice in Bill's head for most of that time.
  22. I'm sure being married to Bill helped to nourish that quality
  23. That is hilarious....Romney also tied his dog on top of his car on a family holiday......is there really a choice????
  24. Correct...they are not friends in that sense, but as you say, for the sake of the election, they will do anything not to hand it to the republicans...don't you think? Hillary especially would feel cheated......again!!!
  25. MP, interesting twist in the story how Obama and Hillary are now friends.....what a dream ticket that would be!!! How could the country resist having such a politically acceptable pres and vice pres.......I wonder if the deep south could live with it??
