10/10 to Wickes Catford yesterday. I am a happy bunny.

I was presenting my personal views just to stimulate conversation on whether others have changed their mind and what has happened to the numerous people who used to post strong opinions. Not reopen old arguments. I suspect that this website was a good place for people to go in the early days to vent frustration and worry at time when numbers were going up. Now that numbers are going down and they have had no close contact with anyone who had it perhaps people feel no need to go to social media anymore. But I may be wrong. Very interested whether the BC1C2 have changes their views. People aren't hugging in my immediate area but less social distancing.

Been on couple of rides into Surrey. Never in many decades of cycling seen such fast traffic. Had an argument with a guy in big car who cut me up near Cator Park. "I'm a cyclist, you should stick to the cycle path" he says. You are a cyclist, you should be ashamed I should have said. Makes it worse when someone tries to justify from their own position. If I drive and I see a cyclist maybe not in the right position I will stay back.

Thanks. My interest was what has happened to the numerous people posting a few weeks ago over their concerns. Are they no longer bothered? Have they now decided that it isn't going to happen to them? sorry doing this in a third person - it would be good to have first hand views. My position 1. Early March - no need for lockdown 2. Mid March, I'm wrong we do need a lockdown 3. Subsequent weeks, lockdown does allow for sensible behaviour, including daily exercise. Why is everyone getting so irate about the minority misbehaving 4. Now. Still a need for social distancing, but the masses are no longer doing it. We have the paradoxical situation that we are being preventing from getting close in shops, the workplace and the like yet happy to get close to family and neighbours. But then you could argue that risk from family and neighbours is so low compared to pubic transport and mass gatherings. Almost a Sweden situation.

Emergency filling can be bought over the counter https://www.superdrug.com/Health/First-Aid/First-Aid-Kit/Dentek-Dental-First-Aid-Kit/p/205300?gclid=CjwKCAjwh472BRAGEiwAvHVfGufkvqh3db8OaTLROc6C1MT97qHcvhdj3lq9TED2kBm6LmNGj_SRvxoCXPkQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Obviously a temporary solution I really doubt they will pull out a tooth unless last resort If Seldoc is still operating another alternative

Sorry meant to be on the lounge....

Sorry for the click bait title but I am genuinely interested on how much the level of posing on Coronavirus has gone down. A month of so ago I was being admonished for cycling during the lockdown and there were dozens of posts about irresponsible behaviours. Was this level of posting a sign of great anxiety ie the need to go to social media? Have many of you now decided we are no longer in a crisis? How much of the government's message changed this opinion? It's been easy to have a go at persistent offenders but I reckon many of us have now got sloppy with social distancing. "no body has got it in my street, therefore I am not going to catch it" I'm very concerned about a second wave and it feels very counterproductive to drop our guard when there has been such a massive hit on our economy and way of life. This is a serious/honest question not trying to provoke anyone.

Have some drivers forgotten safety?
malumbu replied to Lollipop's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Some one drive and my son and I near Greenwich the other day accelerating over 60mph as we were cycling across towards the cycle Route going to Deptford. They put their foot down and turned towards us. Obviously it was a bit of excitement for them. I've never quite experienced that and I have seen huge amounts of crazy driving. On Wood Vale and the like it is usually cars on the wrong side of the road overtaking buses and the like. I am wholly objective, it has all been a green light to drivers like this. I almost got up to 130mph on an empty motorway on a Kawasaki 1100 once, top speed was 135 mph but it stated to weave. Note to younger self - that is what proper race tracks are for. Never drove or rode like an asss in urban areas. And in those days you did get caught. -
Have some drivers forgotten safety?
malumbu replied to Lollipop's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Most drivers (on the road) not some drivers. Bring in average speed cameras. Change the culture. Sorry I am getting repetitive. PS as a younger driver and motorcyclist had my fair share of speeding fines - most on dual carriageways not in urban areas so like a reformed alcoholic I am obsessive. But like drink driving I hope that future generations have different attitudes to previous ones on this. -
When I moved to London foxes were rare. Now if went on a stroll at midnight I'd see about four of them. They look at you as if saying "have you got a problem mate". It amuses me. Don't feed them though. Put my hand in some fox doo doo yesterday, not at horrid as dog or cat doo doo, and rare enough (a few times a year) for me to put up with it.

Wow, I thought this was a thread on recommendations for family cycle trips. You need to label your threads better "I hate families cycling" and you'd also get others joining in to agree with you. But a tad sad?

Wickes card only. Everything explained on line. It's good this internet. Sorry, I get a bit grumpy of silly requests on Whatsapp groups when it is quicker to Google.

Warning: Southwark Council aggressive penalty charge notice enforcement
malumbu replied to ted17's topic in The Lounge
I'm not commenting on the individual case but enforcement is a matter of proportionality. There are times when a little leeway should be given, or a warning. If I am on my soapbox it seems to case that many decent people make a simple mistake yet others get away with far worse - mine is minor transgressions into a bus lane at a quiet time, yet watch the twots doing 60mph in 20 areas. Once drive in the congestion charge zone on Xmas eve thinking it was a holiday. It's not! -
Wickes at Catford, waiting to see if the one at Penge is opening too as this is generally better stocked. Most times of the day there is plenty of space and hope that it makes a revival as standards (and profitability) fell in recent years. Do add you views and updates on other large DIY and builders merchants. As discussed elsewhere I will continue to support smaller ones too.

I remember as a student many moons ago my mate moaning if he had a lecture as the bus would be full of old people on free travel. It gets less funny as you get older!

Good, some hard measures to end the love affair with the car. Gets my support. Been great having the street virtually traffic free and the families playing out there. Those petrol heads who strongly object can self isolate in their cars until the cows come home. There is of course a balance to achieve but the counter argument reminds me of those against hard interventions against smoking. Can you imagine a world where people smoke in restaurants, in front of kids, in the office......?

It looks to be illegal to use poison - government advice is a bit vague, the fox project (not a national charity) has some advice http://foxproject.org.uk/foxes-and-the-law/ Pesticides Act 1998 ? although superseded and legislation now included under a variety of acts, pesticides and poisons must, by law, be used strictly in accordance with the instructions on the product. No poison may legally be used on foxes and anyone found to be in contravention ? deliberately or by neglect ? will certainly be prosecuted. Report it If you think a wildlife crime is being committed then you can report it to the Police Wildlife Crime Unit online or by calling 101. [good luck with that!] You can also report wildlife crime anonymously to Crimestoppers, by calling calling 0800 555 111. Website link: https://www.met.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/wc/wildlife-crime/what-is-wildlife-crime/ There was a telly programme, maybe the one show, that followed a paid trapper in London who was paid to catch foxes being a nuisance and then let them go elsewhere. The chap loved them. Another professional trapper shoots them, where push comes to shove, but don't see any argument for that. Found that in the Sun.....

Actually it was ambush marketing for my bhajis. I can't afford a biplane to fly overhead and the cost of the Goodyear blimp (does that still exist) is frightening. There is of course a link to Trump as with so many Indian professionals (IT, commerce, health) emigrating to the US the standard of Indian food there has improved greatly as well as the cricket. That is not a facetious comment, my mate over there greatly appreciates both. Not sure if Trump does.

This thread seems to have deteriorated into desperate trying to find controversial news. Are we all that bored? I suggest new culinary skills. Fortunately there is a separate thread on this.

Is that an echo! Very nice thanks. Much more complex flavours than the usual supermarket ones, less flabby too. But do indulge me next time when I share my experience. I assume that this was a genuine ask. IF not you are not a messiah you are a very naughty boy/girl.

Right I've gone back and read the previous posts and the other thread on the subject. 50 plus days into the lockdown I still don't think we have the information on how people are getting this. Two months ago it was often obvious - skiing in Italy, business trips to China, Cheltenham Gold Cup, cheek to jowl on the tube. Now these have been ruled out and the understanding that the vast majority of symptomatic people are isolating so wont be coughing on me is it touching a surface when out, is it handling a delivery? Where is the main source of infection for those of us not in a hospital or care home environment. Now it may well not be known but is this being said?

What an arrogant/ignorant (in terms of unknowing rather than rude) post. Human behaviour is highly complex, not only genetic (intelligence, but even that is multi-faceted) but learned from family, schooling, peer groups, the media, society as a whole, government. We are not a subservient police state but other countries are nearer this, ie obey what they are told to do. We generally queue at bus stops, say good morning and are obsessed by the weather. If you went to other countries they would have other priorities and other values. Please don't throw the nanny state comment at us. As for risk assessment, I eat food past its well by date. Others don't. I cross the road not always at pedestrian crossings. Others don't. I choose to take my daily exercise, and risk independent shops when I know that I am probably going to get a less than 2 metres away from some fellow shoppers. Others have self isolated and get all their food delivered. But as for 'informed and rational behaviour'. Many feel that is will not happen to them, get their information from untrusted sources, or simply believe in conspiracy theories, maybe propagated by peer group and other untrusted sources. We need leadership rather than ambiguuity. The latter is in deed a cop out so if it goes horribly wrong our PM can blame the masses for their lack of common sense.

They are very different to how I made them before and have eggs, potatoes and green peppers in them. I'd normally just mix gram flour, rice flower, onions and some spices and a bit of water. They are also quite wet so have to be deep fried which I tend not to do. Made some more yesterday but just threw ingredients in eg aswan and fenugreek seeds. Hadn't realised before but these are the smells from the Asian grocers of my youth. But hey nice to experiment and supermarket bhajees are so bland and flabby. Here's fifty chutneys to go with your papads, idlis, dosas, bhajees, samosas, uttapams and other chaat snacks. Only done two so far. https://www.vegrecipesofindia.com/chutney-recipes-indian-chutney-recipe/

VE Day poster at Glover House, Peckham Rye
malumbu replied to garages2018's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry to put a downer on your post. The only member of my family that ever talked about the war openly was my Auntie, who had been the perfect age to go dancing with the American servicemen. Family would speak about it when asked and of course some fascinating stories. We were lucky with no close family lost. But I hear similar of other people of my generation. The film Vera Drake encapsulated it well with a low brow conversation around the dinner table - where were you !North Africa" !I was in Greece." "So so lost both his parents." (not the exact words). The defeat of fascism was one of the most important events of the 20th century of course. Others may have different family stories. I'd be interested to hear either way.
