Probably a black cap, males have black caps females brown. They are quite slim and I graceful. I spent ages trying to identify them - I had a couple of pairs on the feeder a few weeks ago. They should migrate but with climate change more are staying over winter. https://www.bto.org/our-science/projects/gbw/about/background/projects/garden_blackcap_survey/id

Watch/listen to the video. It explains it really well. Cooping people up 24/7 does harm, unless you are fortunate enough to be in a large house with extensive grounds. The key message is stay inside, which is being echoed by those most closely associated with the crisis. Stay inside with the exception of essential journeys, for food, and for health reasons, including exercise. Once a day. In your essential journeys socially distance, don't use this as excuse to meet up with friends, play football in the park, sun bathe etc. You will not get 100% compliance but it's pretty good. By stressing the stay inside this will discourage the worst abuses. This is a measured balanced position by government, recognising that we are not in a police state, and the resources that would require which can be much better used (and the danger of civil unrest if we do have more draconian restrictions). If you want to stay inside 25/7 fine. Please stop demonising the rest of us.

I went to Sainsbury's and bought an avocado. Wow lucky you I went to Sainsbury's and bought an avocado, and a bunch of bananas. Quick, dash off there now before they all go I went to Sainsbury's and I bought an avocado, a bunch of bananas, some custard powder (really, are we running short of this now?) (Perhaps this post will go viral and there will be a rush) I went to Sainsbury's and I bought an avocado, a bunch of bananas, custard powder and some dates (with all that home baking they are in short supply) I went to Sainsbury's and I bought an avocado, a bunch of bananas, custard powder, dates and half a dozen eggs. Eggs, do they have eggs? No. I bought the last lot, as I was down to my last five dozen.... (continue to Z, and then start again) Sorry for the lack of creativity, but I haven't done any panic buying or hoarding so beyond eggs and flour I am not sure of what is not on the shelves, nor am I bothered. If we had all taken that attitude we wouldn't have created the shortages and Lidl would still have their bakery isle (the one thing that I do miss). There are four to feed in the house too, so I am not being a clever singleton so and so. When you get to s, it has to be string, with fond memories of Tim Brooke-Taylor and the Goodies for the parody of the 70s oil crisis.

With thanks to Sally who raised this on the ED issues section, a great article by Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director, Scotland, about getting the right balance in the lockdown. Please give it a listen, its only a few minutes long and nicely explains how you want to avoid unintended consequences of a more severe lockdown - domestic violence, mental health and the economy, and not neglecting other life threatening illness.

Yes, it would be good to get this across wider. Apologies I am going to steal this link and put it on the lounge. Lovely cycle today, bit chilly, roads empty (no excuse to the two boy racers at more than double the speed limit), a few cyclists but loads of space for walkers, families, joggers, cyclist and one person cheating on an electric scooter. Impeccable behaviour on the one pinch point, the footbridge between Ladywell and Catford on the Waterlink Way. Everyone being polite, smiles and thank yous.

This looks a good site to counter some of the claims and fake news including 5G, and risks of taking ibuprofen. https://fullfact.org/health/coronavirus/ If you've time worth looking at the other stories that are debunked - going off on a tangent The price of Freddos has risen five times faster than inflation - not for discussion here....

Have you seen the programme? If not it would be worth doing so and sharing views. It appeared to be factual, non-sensational, using experts including mathematicians, and some interesting looks at the data and particularly valuable debunking some of the myths.
-
Surprised that there hasn't been mention of what I thought was an excellent Horizon programme last week, lots of data and debunking some of the myths. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000h3nm/horizon-2020-coronavirus-special-part-1 A key message was overpopulation and intensive agriculture mean that there is a greater likelihood of such pandemics. I tried to start a discussion on what the world may look like post covid-19 and will pick up again on this at a later time.

You must have some camera traps out, like they do in the Himalayas where they are looking for snow leopards. I don't think I've ever seen cyclists in the woods.

Good article - extracting a couple of paras: And there have been a few examples of behaviour that makes the heart sing. Like the inspiring stories of community efforts taking place in small towns up and down the country, or the fact that 750,000 people volunteered to help the NHS in just three days. However, these stories have been dwarfed by the dramatic rise in public shaming brought on by the lockdown measures, driven in equal parts by the click hungry media and battalions of furious keyboard warriors.

Prime Minister moved to Intensive Care - non political

Apparently BJ made a poor judgement quip a few weeks ago with manufacturers about the need to make more ventilators coining this as operation last gasp. It may be total bollox but it is just as daft as raising the stories about three silly people in a country of 60 odd million who made disparaging remarks about the PM. https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/17/boris-johnson-speaks-operation-last-gasp-joke-lack-ventilators-fight-coronavirus-12413785/ -
There is a much bigger picture here beyond vaccines and tests, which I'd find really interesting to debate. Many of us have got time on our hands. The situation probably reflects over population and intensive food production which makes us far more vulnerable to future diseases. But at the same time whilst Europe becomes older we need young productive people from those parts of the globe with high birth rates. I think that globalism is generally a force for good but needs some re-balancing. The post Brexit dream of some greens of a controlled recession whilst we move to some sort of agrarian economy is nonsense but where will Britain be post Brexit when the dust settles? Financial markets and people making money out of this, can and will this be reformed? The move to greater consumerism - will this be reversed as we've learned to buy less, make and mend, less food and other waste and the benefits this has on the environment? Now that we don't need to use the internal combustion engine so much, and with the improvements to air quality as many of us walk and cycle more will be return to irresponsible motoring? Geopolitics, the world has become more confrontational in recent years with moves to the right and nationalism, attempts to close borders, instability all over the world, some crazy people in charge. On a national and local level, politics and communities. Will this help mend broken Britain? For every good news story there seems to be someone spying on their neighbours and it feels like we have the thought police and stasi on this Forum half the time. How will the Tories fare - there will be a lot of criticism post crisis but I'm not sure any other party would have handled it much better. But with a new and credible Labour leader will that change things in years to come. Will this all encourage greater engagement in politics and communities here and around the world when historically aren't involved? And all this in the context of a massive financial hit, businesses going bust, unemployment (civil unrest?, possible collapse of property markets as the world gets warmer, more unstable and looking at irreversible damage to our environment. A wake up call? Lots of questions for debate. Trying not to give all the answers. The worry is that we will return to something nearish normal, boost our capabilities to handle future pandemics but no fundamental change.

Groovy vintage jazz near Gowlett road

Nice one. Whilst I berate others for the amount of whinging, why you need a petrol mower/strimmer in this area defeats me. And the soft late 70s early 80s stuff coming from the house above is pretty dire, every so often there is one you want to dance to. Hopefully others have some positive stories like this. -
There was lots of signage saying that part of the route is shut, longish term. Not sure what has happened to the signs. But on the positive glad that I am not the only one who calls this a kissing gate, although I've been pretty unsuccessful over the years.....

Hope you had a nice ride, It's a lovely day. I got the chance to talk to some police officers, at a reasonable distance, and one shared some hand sanitizer with me. Note: fellow cyclists, do take something to clean your hands with at start and end of journey hand if you stop for a rest (rest not sunbathe) I think that this is the best line I've seen here for weeks: just be nice and don't be a t*&t then > we'll all be okay

If somebody upsets me in a queue I give them my best Paddington bear stare. That normally does the trick. But as for queues SE22, oh my word you've been seriously outdone by one of the places you'd love to live in, Greenwich. On my cycle today, socially distancing myself as ever, I saw a mass of people on the river path. I thought quick, join the Greenwich Forum and start a thread 'hasn't anyone in Greenwich heard of the virus?'. But lo and behold, it was a ginormous queue for Waitrose. It was even longer than the queues, put together, for the Cheese Block and William Rose at Christmas. I think that the Museum of London may even do an exhibition based on this, similar to the fatberg. It reminded me of the 1979 Conservative poster campaign. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2010/mar/29/saatchi-saatchi-labour-tories Interestingly enough you will also see that Tony Blair was case number one.

Just relaid my pond but sadly the newts and frogs didn't hang around. However discovered a small amount of frog spawn yesterday - thought it was a bit late. Will the newts come back and eat it as they usually do? Nice watching the solitary bees collect mud. No activity in my bird boxes. Cleaned them out, repaired them and the like. A few years ago most of them had nests. Thought it may be building work that put them off when nearby extension going up, and also the house on the hill that is lit up like a Christmas Tree. Followed RSPB guidance on siting etc.

KidKruger, it was the article that Uncle posted about a Derbyshire Councillor - she said he deserved to die. My earlier post was mainly banter but just shocked by Laura Kuenssberg on the Beeb, "Nearly a 1000 people died over the last 24 hours, but hey ho good news the Prime Minister is recovering". How insensitive. I think the media played Charie Boy and Covid-19 well, The heir to the throne that is. It was modestly reported. I'll let Twitter and hopefully some complaints to the BBC make my point further. -
Hi Bunty, I suggest when the cemeteries are open you go along with a ssndwich board with this message. Burying bodies to me is archaic and you could argue selfish due to pressure on land space. I understand that there are still some faiths and cultures that want to do this, but for the vast majority we'd rather do things differently. Woodland burials are cool, but this could not be sustained for the masses. Most burial grounds are full of the remains of bodies long since forgotenn. That is the harsh fact. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Green

More importantly predictions on how the season can be completed? Or worse case scenarios. Have Liverpool lost sympathy due to their position on coronavirus? The most left wing city in the country but a team not adhering to socialist principles. Yes, politics and sports to mix.
