  1. They are businesses looking to increase their revenue. But in fairness whilst my practice has a TV in the waiting room that advertises cosmetic dentistry, my dentist has never suggested to me that I need it, Fortunately we don't live in America
  2. Thanks for sharing, it's not particularly sophisticated and hopefully most will see through it, It's multitasking criminals who just look for opportunities. Why blame the council for criminals? Best advice is to follow the rules and regulations. Bigger criminals are the private parking companies who use disproportionate means - governments were attempting to tackle unfair practices.
  3. Wells sold off the brewery to what is now Carlberg. 'Youngs' is still brewed there, I had assumed that the brewery had closed and moved to where they brew Courage, Brakespears and other brews from long closed breweries. But irrespective of this only Youngs in name. All this goes back to unintended consequences of the break up of big national brewery power in the late 80s. All major brewing interests in the UK no longer British
  4. The title of the thread is sensationalist and comes across that you have a Daily Mail type agenda. Which from subsequent posts you don't Heaven knows the solution but a political point is that austerity under Osbourne, subsequent regimes and widening inequality have worsened things Not an excuse for braking the law of course
  5. My place but not sure if you want to come. Otherwise get to the Blythe Hill Tavern early, the best pub in the known universe, and it will tick all the boxes. 185 bus from LL
  6. Wow some political debate. Something I have missed as we used to have great discussions on the Lounge about Brexit, international, and domestic politics. I expect that this is something that has moved away from local social media websites (and invaded some neighbourhood WhatsApp groups~). So we all are experts! Well here are some thoughts. I expect that immigration and incompetence/rule breaking were the reasons that many defected to Reform. I'm not sure how much Reform played the woke card that Labour will "want to control us and not allow us to drive what we want, where we want, how we want, when we want and/or charge us for the privilege and imprison us only allowing us to journey for a 15 minute walk" Starmer did mention drivers in his Downing street speech, please let that mean professional drivers rather than the motorists as a whole. I really don't know why he had to mention it in any case. His campaign seemed relatively quiet on environmental issues. Hopefully the Green MPS and some protest vote to Greens in safe Labour seats will push him on this. I will continue to push our MP on this. Why Labour were a few percent short of expected votes I'm sure we will hear more on. Was it the apathetic stay at homes, shy Tories or Sunak doom mongering about a super majority and bringing out the big guns? Starmer's personal appeal wouldn't help. As for the single issue of restrictions on motoring - it is fair to say that Sunak's line on ending the war on motorists, and his plan for motorists had bugger all impact. Hooray. Even scare stories about a national ULEZ failed to land home. Noting that government was ordered to sort out air quality by the Supreme Court in 2015 and has legal commitments to reduce carbon and meet net zero. So in this respect it is correct to say that the masses were not influenced by any pro motorist message from political parties.
  7. They stopped brewing in 2006 and their pubs became a pub chain. Some like the DW and Clock were sold on. The wonderful Youngs' estate of 2006 bears no semblance to the pubs of today. The beers is brewed under license by a multinational brewery. So pretty awful in all directions.
  8. Thought it closed down years ago when Young's ceased brewing. Or perhaps just became a shadow of its former self. It was a proper local and certainly not a sports bar. Sister pub, the Dulwich Woodhouse, ditto
  9. Southwark did some good work maybe ten years ago improving the drainage on the football pitch to the left as you look towards central London. Both the Rye and Dulwich Park would be standing water for several weeks around the football training areas in late winter, geology and precipitation rather than any incompetence.
  10. I enjoyed the first version more. Going slightly off thread I've cycled twice through the village around 8.30 the morning and it is empty, it feels too early for the private schools to have broken up. It is like 70 years ago.
  11. Please don't excuse, or make facetious comments, about vehicles hitting pedestrian railings close to a school. The suggestion that it was only a large vehicle 'clipping' the gates is ridiculous. Something has collided with them. The railings I expect are to stop pedestrians crossing the road, rather than protect them from bad drivers
  12. In deed. It scores well on Google. If it is "too expensive" people will stop using it, as consumers have choice.
  13. Great to hear, hopefully there will be a switch in policy at the top following Sunak's pro-car position. There is free cycle training for all in Southwark so your partner, and hopefully you, will be interested. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/sustainable-travel/training/free-cycling-lessons Herne Hill Velodrome to lessons for children https://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/kids And kids can get BMX training at Brockwell Park. https://www.brixtonbmx.co.uk/coaching-and-racing/
  14. I drink Darjeeling loose leaf, don't buy the expensive stuff. It's light and I contaminate it with soya milk. Purists drink it black. It doesn't work in a bag, as the leaves need to be large. I worked with a gent who was a tea taster in a family firm in Newcastle, and chatting to him - Sainsburys Taste the Difference is fine he told me but M&S was better. If you want a stronger tea go for Assam Clipper as others said will work well - can't drink it any more as the tannin gets me. I'd put a link on M&S but oddly don't get any direct hits on Google, perhaps I am profiled as a Lidl shopper (proud to be!)
  15. Occasionally single issue candidates are elected, Martin Bell being the main example. I think there was someone who got in, in a recent election, opposing the closure of a local hospital. This time we have had a number of single issue MPs, those opposing the war in Palestine, and five MPs who are in a party who don't like foreigners. That is not a facetious comment. As for the odd person above, they should have campaigned against all controls against motorists, LTNs only captures measures since COVID, local authorities have been closing roads, making them one way, charging for parking etc for at least the last fifty years. Not that it would have made the slightest difference.
  16. Heavens, is the system broken or what?
  17. I thought that I had the award for being puritanical about titles of threads. But l've now handed it to you. 10,000s of people have died in Palestine, ok to debate UK position but not taken the P
  18. Not representative of the country as a whole. Fun thing to do!
  19. Go with your gut feel, We did.
  20. I expect there will plenty of fun videos in the early hours.
  21. With all his data gathering is he rich enough to spend £30k on a judicial review? I'm surprised with some of the depth of feeling on this website he hasn't asked others to join him. It keeps on reminding me of the Prisoner, the 1960s series where the name of the person running the show was not known "who is number 1". Pity with all this dedication to a cause he hasn't put this towards something that I would find more worthy.
  22. Just to remind you the general election is tomorrow, Thursday. You will need to bring ID unless you have made your vote by post. Please make an effort to vote, it's an important part of our democracy irrespective of the flaws of our system

There may well be numerous empty seats with people on holiday, and the club is notorious for season. Ticket holders not turning up Vs lower teams on inconvenient days/times. Ideally there should be a way of passing these on at face value or below but I expect many are resold through 'legal' tout sites. Sorry not exactly helpful. Advice is retitle the thread with exact requirements to hopefully target the right people. I'll ask around.
  24. Did I miss Iron Maiden at Glastonbury on the Beeb too? Had to turn it off as got too much....
  25. 30 years ago I'd see a fox every so often it would be a little unusual, now several a day and 5 or ten times as many. Urban foxes live longer than their country counterparts and smaller territories due to more plentyful food. Wish they'd eat more squirrels and parakeets!
