I told the Post Office in LL and they were very sympathetic and even lent me their phone to contact Customer Services. When I finally got through they were completely useless. Didn't want to know. Told me it had to be the recipient who complained not the sender. Tried their website - useless agian Lynne
  2. I've heard him too. Once I'd got over the fear that he was off his head and might try to charge through the buffers, it was great fun Lynne

Has anyone else had trouble with the Christmas post? Have just been told about a card + papers that I sent from Lordship Lane. When recieved it had obviously been opened and the contents taken, and, even odder, an entirely different set of papers enclosed. My elderly friend was very surprised and worried to recieve a summons addressed to someone completely different Lynne
  5. stationers like Smiths. Actually Smiths? Lynne
  6. Hi all. Yes, it was disappointing. Where was the V1/2 that fell on the Co-op?. Also the bomb that destroyed the church at the bottom of Worlingham Rd? And the one on Crystal Palace rd? Not to mention the large one that killed a wedding party on Camberwell Green? Probably lots more. Lynne
  7. I contacted Southwark Environmental dept. and they were very concerned, but I don't see what they can do, beyond, as you suggest, installing a camera. Lynne
  8. Aren't people wandering from the point? If she isn't an official Big issue seller, than she shouldn't say she is, even if she's needy. Would you think it was OK if someone who needed the money came to you and said they were collecting for Cancer Research, or something similar, and then pocketeted the money? If it's the same person, I;ve seen her dropped off by car there. Lynne
  9. Almost gridlocked around the side roads Lynne
  10. You're lucky not to have seen them. Environmental Health clears then away and is taking it seriously Lynne
  11. Hi RosieH 1) No 2) yes 3) No 4) No 5) Quite a lot of people, apparently But I still think that living in one's constitueny indicates a level of committment, and being evasive about the reasons why one doesn't isn't the best way to inspire trust Lynne
  12. Thanks, buddug. Nice to know Lynne
  13. TJ will always have a very good chance of being re-elected because she is a party apparatchnik, a known quantity. So anyone who believes that the Labour party is the best one to form the Government will vote for her/her clone regardless. This is a perfectly valid point of view Not holding this viewpoint, however, I do believe that it matters that she doesn't want to live here, and fobs us off with "family" reasons, believes we will believe in her "reconciliation". I was told that at least one of her children went to school in America, while she was telling us that she didn't want to leave them and come and live in Dulwich. If this is a scurrilous rumour, I will be glad to hear the denial it as I would like feel that politicians tell me the truth Lynne
  14. So you'll only respect us if we like TJ? I think I'll manage without Lynne
  15. So, basically, we come second to the family. That's a judgment anyone is entitled to make, but don't expect everyone to like it. Lynne
  16. If she loves us so much, why doesn't she live here? Lynne
  17. Considering how observant most ED residents are, it's astonishing that the perp. hasn't been spotted. If anyone does, please take his/her number and report it I still find it sickening. Lynne
  18. Hi, Pugwash. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Last time I went and found the book on the shelves and waved it at them. Also I've borrowed books that have still been issued to someone. Now I always watch till they've dealt with my returned books. Lynne
  19. We were underpinned years ago and were tied to the same insurer. Their prices rose from high to astronomical over the years. Then I found that other insurers will now take you on. We had to get a structural survey done, costing about ?400, but have now more than saved this off our new insurance bill There are some areas of ED that are more at risk than others- our surveyor said that Wood Vale is tricky. I wish we'd never had ours done anyway, it was just a small crack on an internal wall Lynne
  20. All purpose guarding and and question answering. You wouldn't believe what people get up to in libraries even with staff there Lynne
  21. Unfortunately visiting Dulwich Library isn't really like going back 30 years, because 30 years ago Dulwich was one of the best libraries in South London. Now I hardly ever go. As has been said here, more books on trollies than on the shelves ( I did complain to them about that), poor stock - I think I own more books than they do. It got a lot worse a few years ago when the library got re-furbished. OK, it looks good, but they scrapped a lot of shelving so now have hardly any room for books. When I complained about that (yes, I know, Disgusted of Dulwich - that's me ) I was told that now it was a lot better for the staff. Well, pardon me, but as a librarian I didn't think I come before my readers. The new libraries in Canada Water and Peckham are much better, but have obviously syphoned off all the spare cash, expertise, enthuisiasm that's available. Mind you, if you think Southwark's bad, go visit Lambeth Lynne
  22. Some of it might be foxes, we get a lot in our back garden and no dogs can get into that. Still, I've watched dog owners let their dogs pee against our gate. Lynne
  23. What about the people who take things out of your skip? Lynne
  24. This is one of the most unsavoury stories of incompetance/misdirection/ (use whatever words come to you own mind) I've ever heard Lynne
  25. I don't like the "you must expect it to be nicked" argument. It sounds horribly like the "if a woman goes out at night in a short skirt she's asking for it" argument that use to be prevalent years ago. How far must we take this? Only go out in rags lest someone nicks your jacket? Sell your car, just in case? Don't paint your house or people will think ther's something inside worth theiving? Lynne
