  1. Florence (and the Machine?), Jude Law, and I agree with Vallajo, Dr Fenner was one of the good guys but there were some teachers there then who shouldn't have been teaching anywhere.
  2. No more Alex Salmond. What a wonderful thought Why don't the English get a referendum about what they want?
  3. I wonder who's waiting for a Virgin installation that never arrived?
  4. Or even one on the corner of Upland/crystal Palace Of course, no-one really minds that the nearest is peckham, in the event of a crisis
  5. Yes, that sounds a bit steep for carpet. I suggest you shop around. The shop in Forest Hill is good for advice too. Carpets are quieter and warmer, both considerations for children/draughty Victorian houses
  6. My grandmother used to open the door during thunderstorms so if a lightening ball came down the chimney, it could go out of the door wihout causing damage. I wouldn't go as far as saying that anyone believed her, but we sort of hoped it might happen. And did it? No.
  7. Lunch?
  8. They replaced my bin in days and collected the bulky waste right on target, so perhaps you're unlucky, This may not be a compensation!
  9. So, if I understand all this, it's illegal to lend your Oyster card to grandchildren/visitors etc? And you can't use legal tender ( cash - no-one ever has change for a cow and I've run out of calves) I'd like to see this all challenged in the courts
  10. A warning. Don't go to Coolings in Knockholt if you're in a hurry. It's vast! People have been found hours later just wandering around in a daze through overload.
  11. If I wanted old photos, I'd ask at the Local History Library. Up to their knees in them.
  12. Thanks to whoever's responsible for these. Thee's always someone looking at them
  13. Underground prostitution? You mean in cellars?
  14. I can't help womdering if it's legal to refuse money. After all, it's called "legal tender"
  15. Does anyone at Council level know anything about the new charity shop on Grove vale? It seems people are having trouble finding out what charities it actually supports
  16. I've thought it was odd since I heard the manageress telling a customer she could get them clothes in different sizes which doen't sound like any charity shop I've ever known
  17. My cat once brought home a cooked chicken and left it on the doorstep. "How enterprising" I thought, just before I ruined a pair of suede shoes by absent-mindedly kicking it away
  18. I'm surprised it's Ladies going through bins. One would have thought they were taught better by nanny
  19. I finally eradicated mine through constanct vigilance! You might not have the time for the sort of obsession required. As Whittler said, they're easy to spot. The first few, I just thought "oh , what pretty beetles". Mine got brought in when I bought a tub of lilies from a well-known DIY chain.
  20. OK, thanks. Not walking distance.
  21. Does anyone know if this is going to start up again? It wasn't brilliant but it was within walking distance and I miss it
  22. Got stung by a wasp on an overhanging bush and am allergic to wasp stings so would welcome being able to avoid other people's greenery lynne
  23. More children than criminals?
  24. Why don't I think that this sudden concern for the welfare of the local residents is completely sincere? Didn't see much sign of it when the road was blocked by lorries and huge skips and sheds took up the parking spaces. Not to mention the total unsuitability of the project to start with. Could the owner have a fleeting sense of concern that the Council might at last start objecting?
  25. No-one ever seems to answer the phone at Forest Hill Rd. We've taken to walking there if we need an appointment. Obviously this won't work if you're actually ill, so I don't know how people manage if they are. Waiting for an appointmant then seems to be about 2 weeks. My results got lost somewhere in the system last time, and the recaptionist took indifference to a whole new level Lynne
