    Dustbin men

Twice this last week I've seen dustbin men wearing official Veolia jackets in people's front gardens looking in their bins. Any ideas why? And are they entitled to come into private gardens? Southwark going to start fining people for the wrong sort of rubbish?
  2. There used to be a second hand furniture shop in Brockley, on the corner of Avignon Rd. it had been re-developed.Does anyone know if it's gone elsewhere? It was the best in the area. A good mix of cheap and nice stuff. Or can anyone recomend a similar place?
  3. So, if I understand it correctly, the lane area is part of the site. But there must be access allowed to the builder's centre. Is it a right of way? Or a flying access only? If it only allows access then we can't park or wait I agree that it seems normal enough to use it as a pick up point as spider69 says but unfortunately normal and legal aren't necessarily the same. Talking of access, when can we turn into the side road by Denmark Hill Station. That piece of wood and fence seem to have no real purpose apart from causing trouble on the main road as cars do illegal turns there when dropping off train passengers.
  4. They've only just spent all that money on Denmark Hill It's going to make all these stations feel very secure for passengers!
  5. I agree with Ratty. Don't give a narcissist ?40 million pounds.
  6. I wish someone would move the blue camper van in Worlingham Rd that's been unmoved since last summer. I know it's legal, but it's still a pain
  7. Fat Boy's been murdered, too. A laugh a minute
  8. I dcn't see why traffic coming along the main road should be held up so much for cars leaving Sainsburys. When it was first opened Dog Kennel Hill traffic was given clear priority, now the time length seems about even. As usual big business gets their own way.
  9. OK,given that it's closed, where's the best local fish and chips?
  10. Greenwich has fined people for parking on a single yellow line on Sundays for years now. I used to go to the Sunday antiques market and you would see lines of cars with penalty notices.
  11. OK, everybody accusing me of fare dodging. Have got a freedom pass. So there!
  12. No one staffing East Dulwich this afternoon so went to Denmark Hill. Ticket office closed there and ticket machine out of order. (Question- how do people actually buy tickets?) Had to go to Victoria just to speak to a human being.
  13. OK. I suppose the reason is that we'd all like a day off, if there's been building work nearby. And in ED, where isn't there building work? It can really get on one's nerves after 5 days of it. I speak from experience. And builders need a day off too. Rushed jobs + tiredness = accidents
  14. Ah. Thanks Red Devil and Otta As to why they shouldn't, I would have thought the answer, in a very crowded area, was fairly obvious
  15. Does anyone know the rules for commercial builders operating hours? I had it in mind that they weren't supposed to work on a Sunday, but I had a faceful/eyeful of dust from a house on North X Rd that was having it's brickwork cleaned yesterday. Don't suppose the neighbours were that happy
  16. I felt very sorry for the people trying to sell their house next door to the very scruffy one on Frogley Rd. Living in a community does imply some sort of tolerance of community mores. Or we cold all live in vans
  17. It's always been like this - which isn't much comfort really. I wish I had a pound for every time my boys were stopped years ago. "Is that your bike? Where do you live? Where're you going?". Every time I see a black kid on TV complaining about harassment, I start shouting "no, it's not your race, it's your age". All teenage boys are guilty of something in police eyes. Mind you......
  18. I heard she'd been jilted by a man for a white woman. I once saw her inadvertently scare the living daylights out of a big West Indian lad on the bus. He was twice her size but fled at a speed Bolt would have been hard put to match when she materialized on the top deck.
  19. Years ago people tried to get it listed as as an almost untouched Edwardian(?) Villa but the powers responsible were snooty about it
  20. Cat fleas are very small, you might not notice. Put paper or white material on your floor , then sit by it. Cat fleas will usually come towards your body heat and you'll notice little black specks jumping on the paper/cloth
  21. Could be cat or dog fleas. They would go and live in your carpet after the basket came in. If it'd any comfort, they will die away eventually if you haven't got a cat or dog. Perhaps you'rs unusually sensitive to them
  22. I thought the response had some bearing on the problem Obviously I am wrong
  23. Did you actually see how many vehicles and officers were involved?
  24. It was ludicrously over done. I thought it must be a major incident. We pay the police wages, and they keep on how little money they have. O'm not surprised if they need every policeman in SE London to deal with one incident
