  1. Local studies library will probably keep copies and at the worst you could photo-copy it Lynne

I sometimes go to a Macdonalds (it's not actually illegal) in Kent and it's a great place. Bright, clean, friendly. Whereas the Macs in Peckham which we visited after the cinema! Lost for words I used to shop regularly in Peckham. Now I can't think of any reason to go there, apart from the watch battery place in the market Lynne
  3. I speak with some authority as a librarian and I'm sorry to say that all the ones I've ever worked in (and even ones I just use) are major targets for thieves. People get distracted while they work or look for books/ help their children and thieves know it. And yes, we do our best but we're working too. Never never leave your bag/ briefcase/ jacket unattended. Often the bag contains nothing valuable for a thief, merely your life's work, so people think no-one will take it. But they will I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think it's your fault, we don't all think the way that opportunistic theives do Lynne
  4. What about an estate agent? There isn't another for some way. Yards, at least Lynne
  5. Somewhere else for squatters Lynne
  6. I've seen them outside Sainsburys too (discriminating rats) Lynne
  7. Thanks for all the advice. being no expert I can't really assess the danger, but you can now see right throught the chimney stack where the bricks have come out Lynne
  8. You mean the landlord wants it to fall? It could go through the roof Lynne
  9. A neighbour's chimney stack was badly damaged in the storms just after Christmas.I went round to tell them as I think they can't see from their garden. Their English was very limited so I talked to the letting agent for them but still nothing has been dome. I think one more bad storm might bring the stack down I don't know if I'm only poking my nose in, or if there's something more I can do to help Has anyone any suggestions? Lynne
  10. Dulwich DIY!!! One of the best shops ever. No matter how vague my description they never look amused and have been known to search around in odd boxes when I've wanted somthing esoteric - in this instance an Imperial bolt for a Victorian door knocker. Lynne
  11. If it was just a question of how many people had died in any place, then all hospitals should be so full of ghosts that it would be difficult to walk through the corridors. Like wading in mystic soup (not that I'm sure this is a reliable comparison, I haven't actually tried it) lynne
  12. It is more expensive than most charity shops, but so what? No-one's forcing anyone to go there. After buying for everyone else I decided to treat myself and bought a new item marked at ?50.00 on the old label for ?18.00 I don't think that's too bad. And yes, I know I'll get a lecture from all the self-righteous of ED of which there seems to be a large number Lynne
  13. It may seem pricey, but you should look at non-charity shops. I've just come back from town and have decided Libertys needs a reality transplant. The prices!! The hideous clothes!!! The prices!!!! Lynne
  14. I think the trade for the existing shops must suffer; there is, after all, only a finite amount of surplus people are willing to donate. The jam, so to speak, will get spread more thinly. Unless experts can prove, of course, that a concentration of similar shops brings in more trade. Lynne
  15. New Mary Portas type charity shop opening on the sit of Moo Too. Sign of the times even in ED? Lynne
  16. Sounds like mine. I assumed clay Lynne

Let's just hope we get a replacement who doesn't have to look up Dulwich on the A-Z. And then lie about why she doesn't live here Lynne

So, goodbye Tessa. just in time for Christmas Lynne
  19. My husband once parked his motor bike on Bond St, illegaly, I admit, between a Rolls and a Merc, also illegal. When he returned a few minutes later, he had a ticket, but the two posh cars didn't, Odd, isn't it?. Must have been invisible. He appealed, on those grounds, and the ticket got withdrawn. Also got his ticket cancelled for parking on the open area outside the National Theatre. Lynne
  20. Just avoided the pot holes on Dog Kennel Hill. It's like "Voyage to the Centre of the Earth" there. I'll swear there was smoke from the earth's crust coming from one and faint cries for help coming from the depths of another Lynne
  21. Just received a first class letter that's taken 6 days to get here. I mentioned it to the staff in Sylvester Rd when collecting a parcel, and their reply was "It's because it's changed from Nine elms to Croyden. They're no use at Croyden" Well, this may well be the correct reason, but it strikes me as a very unsatisfying one. Is there anyone from "Croyden" out there to reply? Lynne
  22. No complaints about the doctors at the Forest Hill Rd but impossible to ring through for appointments and when you do get one it's a long wait. Lynne
  23. My neighbour has hung several bicyles in his garden trees. Is he a) creative b)practical c) barmy and should I be 1) sitting back and watching the show 2) admiring a practical use of space 3) worrying Lynne
  24. I paid ?27,000 for a four bedroomed ED house, some years ago, admittedly. And that was still more than we'd got for a detatched house in a posh part of a non-London town. It's all relative. I was earning about ?1000 per annum at the time. Lynne
