  1. Dulwich Park was closed today because of a snowball fight which was getting out of hand yesterday and the police suggested it was closed because of this. Obviously a threat to the very fabric of society.
  2. Well some of us have struggled through the blizzard to attend our place of work!! Blooming layabouts you lot are.
  3. Go to the Fox on the Hill at 9am any morning (or any other time for that matter) and see how a pricing policy works. It's not wrong it's just how it works. I've been there a few times and the beer is generally very good and exceptional value. The whole thing (food et al) is what you'd expect for the price, personally I'd rather pay a bit more and go to the EDT (nurse, the screens)

  5. and God completeth by the seventh page His work which He hath made, and ceaseth by the seventh page from all His work which He hath made. Holier than thou or what?

I think A2 to A3 should be fairly easy. As for size look at the late lamented Drum and Inside 72
  9. If this doesn't put you off nothing will Spam Does it mean Spiced Ham or is it shoulder of pork, and something else??
  10. Went past this morning and there was a sign saying open for breakfast from 9 -12 and then open for lunch. Didn't have time today to go in today but did anyone and if so what was it like? Might try it at the weekend but since it changed it always seemed an evening and sunday lunch pub.
  11. The story I heard was Mr Green, who as well as running the Art Stationers and Toye Shoppe in DV, is THE local historian had some WWII memorabilia dropped into him. One of the items was labelled as an incendiary bomb found in Brockwell Park, either during or after the war. Thankfully he had the sense to phone Old Bill who promptly shut down DV until the thing was declared safe. There are no antique shops in DV anymore, or are there???

Bl@@dy hippies. Did Marc Bolan go to Alleyn's or is that one of those urban myths?

  14. Don't let the posts put you off. It is a lovely pub, but thats what it is, a pub. Try it and post what you think.
  15. You're right Gen17, it was always a nice pub to walk to (and stagger back from) on the right day, but a destination rest.? don't think so. They don't understand their market.

SEvian'22 Good point Loz, there were several 'Spas' around the area including one near the Grove (Harvester) which was Dulwich Spa I think, there was also Beulah Spa and Sydenham Wells. I'll be looking at my old maps tomorrow.
  17. Just after they'd done the refurb I thought I'd go in there and have lunch. Had a look around and couldn't work out who they were aiming the pub at. I think someone in marketing had gone 'Oh, Dulwich, ABC1', without even bothering to visit. Anyway the food was passable for a quick bite but every other minute or so, one or other of the staff kept asking me if everything was all right. The last time I was asked I was so fed up I asked if something as supposed to be wrong and what was the problem? Customer care should start with the food and drink not the feedback from mediocrity. It's such a shame as it used to be a lovely pub with a great garden in the summer, as did the Grove (now the Harvester) only a few years ago. It'll be the Dog next, mark my words.

  19. We hate sucess in this country. It's one of the great amenities of the area (if you're not a veggie). Honestly, you've got the knives out for the butcher! What next?
  20. Of course if the Italian butcher had had a stake in the business it could have all been so different.
  21. That Italian butcher was also at Moens in Clapham. Looks like he got the chop from both of them.

    BBC news

The problem, if there is one, is that both the major channels, BBC,ITV, are obsessed with the Murdoch agenda (aka Sky news). So they don't give a toss about the paying customer, its a game between them all. The triumph of style over substance. Try giving up all news, TV, radio, papers for two weeks, it's very liberating but a bit dull after two weeks.
  24. I don't think you can get a lot more specific than individual post codes, can you? I think history repeats itself and when we do get out of this almightly mess this dreadful govt. has led us into it's the top end of the market that will bounce back quickest of all. I think anyone living in SE22, including myself, that owns their own house should be fine and better off than a lot of people in London and the UK more generally.
