  1. Nobody thinks this is a massive publicity stunt by the BBC to inject some interest in two very unfunny 'comics' the BBC (and by definition, the licence payer) has put a great deal of money into and whose ratings are not taking off until now? Everyone does well from this, the papers, politicians, stars, has been stars and wannabe stars. We just pay for it and keep the whole show on the road. I'm not cynical, they are.

Someone did point out to me last night that if this crisis is all about poor Mortgage lending and dubious loans. Gordon Brown has made a very good appointment.

It's fab. i > love stuff like that. Here you are, it's facinating. South east london
  4. The Dog in DV is ?2.50 a pint for the (Harvey's) bitter which must be around the cheapest in the area. Everywhere else is around ?3 or a bit more.
  5. *Bob* always makes me laugh but this has to be the most succinct argument for retaining BST and saying up yours to the Scots. 'Be thankful for it. If the French have their way and manage to push through this new EU directive, time will instead be measured in units of 'onions'. And instead of the clocks going backward and forward, Britons will be required to spend two hours per year smoking, shrugging and eating the parts of animals that most right-minded people discard.'

  7. Well perhaps we could make a social occasion of it (the auction)? Quick forum drinks in the West End, drown our sorrows.
  8. There are quite a few ED properties in there, some nicer than others, you shouldn't take too much notice of any guide prices they are always much lower than the reserves and there to whet the appetite. Although it could be different this time. I hope to go on Thursday and will report back on any ED lots if I get there.
  9. Theres a misnomer that having too many of one thing, be it bars, restaurants, estate agents, is a bad thing. People tend to go to that street or area because of it (Brick Lane for a curry for instance, Amsterdam for, er, coffee shops) and leads to consequential business for other traders. Anyway, as I was tucking into some very plump and tasty Mussels this lunchtime in downtown Bromley I thought. 'Wouldn't that large place at Dulwich Plough, the ex co-op, be perfect for a Belgos, or some such similar bi-valve emporium. All that lovely Belguim beer and chips with mayonaise. Yum!
  10. Village Infants, DHJS and then the hell that was Wilsons Grammar School in Camberwell. This was a school with pretentions to the aristocracy, ie it thought it was a minor public school. Bullying was actively encouraged, corporal punishment was rife and the CCF used live amunition on school grounds. A few well known ex puplis notably Michael Caine and John Galliano.

How do you know when a banker is optimistic? He buys a weekly travel card.

  13. Yup, that was us, the cornflakes family. I'll get an injuntion later today, your real names not Barry is it?
  14. We must have been there at the same time. We had the fillet steak, which, although expensive, must be the best in the area by far.
  15. Swiss family Oldie were thinking of going to Springers tonight for a steak. The Dook sounds good though. Went to the Palm last week, excellent but quite expensive.
  16. You old person. Get a flu jab.
  17. Lush, I knew you were out of shape but surely you can catch a snail?
  18. One out of eight Sean. It's hardly the second coming.
  19. Surely it's Harriet Harperson, she enjoyed one of the best private educations money can buy, educated at the independent St Paul's Girls' School and the University of York. Has not voted on a freedom of information act. Voted for introducing a smoking ban. Voted for introducing ID cards. Voted for introducing foundation hospitals. Voted for introducing student top-up fees. Voted for Labour's anti-terrorism laws. Voted for the Iraq war. Voted against investigating the Iraq war. Voted for replacing Trident. This is all from Wikidlies, but I'm sure it's correct. Talk about the nanny state!! By all accounts a very nice person, well educated, us working class people like that.
