  1. Comedy actor Reg Varney, best known for playing driver Stan Butler in ITV sitcom On The Buses, has died aged 92. He died following a short illness in a nursing home in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, where he had recently been admitted with a chest infection. His daughter Jeanne Marley, 59, said her father had died "peacefully" on Sunday afternoon.

    Hunger

Thought it was more about his determination and state of mind rather than the er, 'Irish question'. Where was Mervyn Rees for instance? I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a lot more about the political side of the whole affair which I find fascinating. The death scene was very convincing. Brilliant direction, Michael Fassbender brilliant, great film.
  4. What about Free's Wishing Well?? Air guitar anyone?
  5. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > EDOldie seems to be a fan of this place and The > Castle, could I deduce that the two places are cut > from the same cloth? Not so, I have no preference I'm just trying to benchmark the whole process.
  6. Perhaps they'll stop the red light jumpers too.
  7. In Green Dale. Id be up for that in January.
  8. Oh well, perhaps not then
  9. What about the Greendale? It might not still be called that but I walked past it the other night and it looked like it was still a pub.
  10. There tonight and ..... horrid noise!!! Any Jazz I find difficult but this was the end. Piano and a kazoo as far as I was concerned.
  11. georgia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They weren't exactly welcoming last time! Isn't that part of it? But if you've already been, we should go somewhere else. Adventure sounds good.
  12. Trouble is it's not the same people who make it. An extreme of this is San Miguel which is brewed here under licence and utter pants compared to the real thing from Spain. It's a pure marketing device and nothing to do with taste or 'real' ale. It's like Youngs is not brewed at Wandsworth anymore, so how can it be Youngs??
  13. Hmmm, puzzled, it's a pub and it's in E Dulwich. Can we only go to gentrified gastroenteritis pubs?
  14. Have you done The Castle?
  15. Leave it Moos, 'e's not wurf it.
  16. I'll be there at 6 tonight. On the Dot!!
  17. Last time I was there I went here Bofinger The service was friendly and efficient and I had a lovely lunch.

    Poetry please

My Dad loved poetry and always recited (from memory) this when I was small. It always made me laugh. I read it at his funeral and wished i could have spoken it half as well as he would have done. I've just noticed this thread and it's very nice indeed, it's brought back lots of memories. I don't know if it's self eveident or not, but Quoodle is a dog. THE SONG OF QUOODLE G.K.Chesterton They haven't got no noses, The fallen sons of Eve; Even the smell of roses Is not what they supposes; But more than mind discloses And more than men believe. They haven't got no noses, They cannot even tell When door and darkness closes The park a Jew encloses, Where even the law of Moses Will let you steal a smell. The brilliant smell of water, The brave smell of a stone, The smell of dew and thunder, The old bones buried under, Are things in which they blunder And err, if left alone. The wind from winter forests, The scent of scentless flowers, The breath of brides' adorning, The smell of snare and warning, The smell of Sunday morning, God gave to us for ours * * * * * And Quoodle here discloses All things that Quoodle can, They haven't got no noses, They haven't got no noses, And goodness only knowses The Noselessness of Man.
  19. Ringwood brewery, is my fav by far. Occasionally in other pubs locally but not seen it recently. Get some in and I doubt you'll get me out.
  20. Do you know what Keef. I feel the same and had remarkably little (by my standards anyway) to drink. Certainly wasn't p*ssed when I left. At the moment I feel like rubbish. Hair of Dog's not helping yet.
  21. Lush, dear chap, if you'd only listened to your dear old Uncle EDOldie and gone straight home to bed you wouldn't be suffering. Would you? Anyway lovely evening in Hoopers last night, which is remarkably easy to walk to from the station. I've driven past it loads of times and thought it was in the middle of nowhere. Will be taking Mrs Oldie for a schooner of sherry before long. Nice to meet so many people, particularly TillerTrotter and Bagpuss78 and loads of others but alcohol plays havoc with my memory and what with forum names and real names it?s all too much. Already looking forward to the next one which is the day after my birthday, so I might buy you all a drink. If I?ve had enough myself that is.
  22. Strawbs, it can't be man flu if you can't drink. Contradiction in terms.
  23. Not quite the same thing but (and this isn't a plug) I bought some fab coffee in Franklins shop last weekend. Easily the best I've bought, the cheese block sell nice coffee too. You've got to go to Jamaica for seriously good coffee.
  24. Post office. I think they will send a fax for you.
  25. I can see savings rates plummeting. This is a crap day for ordinary people and a great day for the banks. Their existance is assured by the government and they can charge what they like for loans, and give very little to depositors. Well done Gordon and Alistair, they've taken you both for a ride.
