We ought to start an EDF golf society. Make a change from the curry club and the monthly drinks.

Trouble is the overwhelming majority have no choice at all.

No it wasn't.

The good old days of East Dulwich. It was all so much better then. I really think that the new owners should do a revamp and rename it the Foresters. Retro is soooo in these days.

Well, not that interesting. The Dulwich Estate owns an awful lot of land in Dulwich including the commercial properties in DV plus parts of W Dulwich and parts of Herne Hill, and the so called Manor Wastes, but they don't own the schools. The schools own the freehold of their own premises. Income from the 'Estate' does go to the schools for educational purposes, scholarships etc. but, as far as I am aware they are all separate entities, connected in many ways but independent of each other. They are all charities. ED ?Gods Gift? Oldie

It was much better when it was the Foresters. Full of old geezers, pool table, no nasty short skirts, in fact no women. Beer was rubbish, food non existent (part from the crisps) and they call this progress! Honestly, you young people.

It will all be on video, I'd complain like hell.

Well I have always been particularly fastidious on the matter of personal hygiene and I can't remember anyone being smelly in that pub, so no, he must have been a one off (so to speak).
-
Didn't they do roast potatoes as well on a Sunday? Or am I making that up?
-
But so rarely seen
-
Trust Lush to remember the strippers. I think it was every Sunday.

In which case a > link to the overland station has been a missed > opportunity. Sorry no idea. But the point is if you look st the tube map south londn is massively underserved by the tube. The old wives tale I was told was that there were too many underground rivers, difficult soil conditions, blah, blah, blah. Well the truth is, as we all know, that those in norf london detest sarf londoners and want to restrict our access to the paradise they consider the other side of the river to be. Dare one mention the congestion charge? No politician so far (particulary one who lives in north london) has done anything to remedy this inequality. In transport terms we are simply second class subjects (sorry, citizens). I'm surprised we aren't made to sit in the back part on the number 12 when it crosses Westminster Bridge.

12 year old father Alfie Pattern has decided to join Fathers for Justice. He's already got the Spiderman outfit

TJ you've still scrapped the ELL extension through East Dulwich North Dulwich through to Wimbledon which was the sexy option (well as sexy as these things get), this would have been the best possible route for the area surely? Pretty pathetic and useless of you not to connect Dulwich proper to the tube network. Have a look at extending the Bakerloo line to Camberwell (originally proposed in the 1930's) and then through to Denmark Hill, North Dulwich, Sydenham Hill and onto Norwood Junction (maybe beyond). Proper tubes in South London.

Pity, I was enjoying that.

It's income after all that the landlord would not have had without the agents involvement. Likewise the sale fee seems perfectly reasonable, although I would say 2% is a bit strong. I think 1% is the norm. Again the agent has introduced a purchaser as well as a tenant and why shouldn't they be paid for that?
-
Agents should (and I wish by law) charge the very minimum to the tenants. Unfortunately many agents see the tenant as another income generator. The respectable ones don't and only charge what it costs to make credit checks etc. Landlords often list property with more than one agent for letting and tenants should ask what the charges are likely to be before they start looking. Shop around, this exploitation will stop if people do. I have to take issue with Red Devil. If an agent introduces you to a stream of income why should their fee stop after one year? Makes no sense to me although it is the subject of litigation at the moment, (can I use the F word?) Foxtons are fighting a case at the moment I think and won the last argument but i think the case continues. maybe someone out there knows more than I do (unlikely) about this.

Harriet Harman's comments on East Dulwich
EDOldie replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Her remarks seem to echo the politics of envy and this from probably one of the most middle class cabinet ministers. She's almost as posh as David Cameron. Cor blimey, apples and pears, knees up mother brown etc etc. God when I was a teenager East Dulwich was proper working class it's changed a bit but what?s wrong with that? Places change and so do people. I think that socialists generally have this over romantic image of the working classes, horny handed sons of toil. The reality is that the Labour party after the war did what the Tesco heiress tried to do in Westminster. They built massive working class estates to cement their vote in London. HH is worried that they are losing support (can't think why!) in traditional Labour voting areas. So is playing the class card. Bearing in mind her background this is the ultimate hypocrisy. Mind you I always admire a politician with the courage of their contradictions. -
Did you notice that the boss of the co-op is a Mr Marks? It's a conspiracy I tell you.

Harriet Harman's comments on East Dulwich

I think she's leading up to a campaign to get local children educated at her own school and paid for by the taxpayer St. Pauls. Of course the govt. could annexe Bromley, do everyone a favour, the possibilities are endless. -
Dulwich Park was closed today because of a snowball fight which was getting out of hand yesterday and the police suggested it was closed because of this. Obviously a threat to the very fabric of society.

Well some of us have struggled through the blizzard to attend our place of work!! Blooming layabouts you lot are.
