  1. Try this http://www.pubnetwork.com/London_sw1.htm but my recommendations would be the Duke of Wellington (locally known as the duke of boot) if you can stand the hooray henrys. The Coach & Horses was very nice years ago and worth a try. The Plumbers (opposite my old office) was where famously Lady Lucan ran in screaming 'the nanny's been murdered' and they have some interesting stuff on the wall about the case. The Lucans lived a few doors from the pub.
  2. Murray was sadly knocked out
  3. And then between the sheets
  4. There's an adventure cafe & bar in Bath. Bloody adventure getting a drink in there I can tell you. Is it the same chain as this one? Theres no mention of Bath on their website. I don't think they should have a happy hour they should have a miserable hour when all us forumites can go in and have a good moan about everything. Can you have a good moan or is that an oxymoron??
  5. Farmers hate the little buggers. They do look cute but my mate who lives in deepest darkest Devon told me an interesting story. The local vets did a survey of road kill badgers and found that 9 out of 10 had been shot before being dumped on the road. Pity they banned Fox hunting I think Michael Palaeologus would have made a marvelous MFH on Dulwich Common (perhaps we could call it Dulwich Posh instead?)
  6. Hope someone saves the sign, proper landmark.
  7. Unlucky is not the word. they don't want to take up gambling. Best Burgundy I ever had came from there, bought a case and there's only one left:)-D But a very good independent wine merchant is a rare treat these days. It's not that expensive for what you get. Compare with Berry Bros or Lay & Wheeler and you tend to get some unusual wines that aren't often seen on the shelves of other wine merchants. Great concept and I hope they can reopen very soon. Oh, I feel totally drained at the news.
  8. Now you're talking.
  9. It's a gift. Pongo Wrote: > > Apologies - you just do it so well > > :))
  10. The service in the Dog has always, no matter who's in charge, been questionable, but strangely having been one of the more expensive pubs in the area I think it is now one of the cheapest. Bringing this back to Au Ciel they certainly have the cheapest coffee (and I think the best) in the Village. Having been so knocked by the success of the Lane is the Village now having to compete on price I wonder?
  11. Pongo, I was being ethereal.
  12. Was it all on Star Trek?
  13. They're French, what do you expect? Anyone been to Paris recently? It's the best coffee (and the cheapest) in the Village, and possibly Dulwich, the cakes etc are to die for and v expensive, so keeps the riff raff away and it adds to the little funny thing about Dulwich Village thats difficult to describe or explain. The SM reason for going/being there (nurse, the screens)
  14. I was at school with Darryl, he was at Wilsons in Camberwell although I think he was in the year below me. He was, without any doubt, a very talented guitarist and a lovely guy. I can't remember if I ever saw Shadowfax, did they gig locally?

  20. Not like it used to be.
  21. On the 176
  22. I think that one of the problems with these is that if they do let them out they may be afffected by the 'Right to Buy' legislation (good old Mrs T eh?) and have to sell them to the tenants at a knock down price. I've probably oversimplyfied things but be interested to know if anyone does know that it could be a problem with them.
  23. Think I might of mentioned this before, but Darth was in the Dog one evening years ago. Well!! you can imagine the comments of the local inteligensia. Not to mention the heavy breathing. Oh it used to be a laugh a minute in there.
