  1. Sasperilla is a soft drink - like a soda. There used to be a sasperilla bar in Cardiff in one of the shopping arcades and it was very 1950's - formica tables etc etc - however THAT was in the 1980's so it's probably gone now.

Nadal looks fairly serious about the tennis - just played a lovely match. Perhaps Murray would have played better if it had been for Scotland and not for GB - he was lacklustre to say the least.

Just seen an Italian girl win a gold in the swimming - so perhaps it's more the fact that nearly every commune in Italy provides sporting facilities and school sports fields haven't been sold off to property developers - oh and the weather is decent enough to want to do sport in.
  4. I haven't eaten there but had a glass of wine from a short but interesting wine list, and thought the decor was good. I would definitely give it another go. With all respect to Pierre - it is a pub not a full blown restaurant, so I would not expect the same kind of menu as I would get in say Franklins.
  5. Nico - you beat me to it - I was going to say please make the toilets more than just bearable - I go into so many bars where the money stopped being spent at the loos. At the very least - all doors lock, there is always paper and a hook. Nice liquid soap and fast hand driers are good too. The Vale although not a popular choice on the board had very nice loos after the first renovation. I don't even want to think about the loos at Inside 72.
  6. I like the idea of a jukebox too - perhaps we could bring in our own 7" singles to go on it. Edited to say posted at same time as Nico's rejection of a jukebox - would still like to see one though.
  7. Sorry *Bob* - some gay guys are great company and very nice to women, but NOT always. I have come across some really unpleasant gay men - just like every other sector of society. I've also come across overweight and badly dressed gay men. Surely the whole idea that gay men are 'different' is actually pretty demeaning - they are just people like gay women, straight men and straight women.
  8. I'm not one myself but isn't that just a tad unfair to real Man U supporters? and I think I'd subsitute Chelsea now - oops sorry going off topic!

  10. I'd be into a meet up too - however in the meantime if anyone has a copy of Ross Leckie's 'Scipio' to swop with his 'Carthage' that would be great.
  11. I have no personal problem with a gay bar whether straight friendly or not, however I wonder how well a desire for a male only or female only (ignoring sexuality) club/bar would go down. All those male bastions such as Whites Club and other have, (I think) been told that they have had to relax their rules, I also believe that the female only colleges at Oxbridge have had to take men. If single sex causes such outrage then why is single sexuality accepted as OK?

Didn't the C4 news last night have an item on it saying that 30 of America's medal hopes were not born in the US and some had even won medals for other countries - they have apparently done this to beat the Chinese medal count. These people have been helped to get fast track US nationality - just in time for the games. I thought it was the taking part that mattered - ha ha ha!
  14. I'd rather choose which charities I give to - not have my things taken and strewn around the pavement to be ruined thank you very much.
  15. Just a warning - we left a bag to be picked up today for charity. About 10 minutes ago (6.00ish) my partner told me that the bag had been picked up. I looked outside to see a woman (about late 30's/early 40's - long straggly dark hair) in an alley rooting out the contents and discarding stuff all over the alley. I sent my partner outside to get the bag back from her and she claimed that she 'wasn't doing no 'arm' - no harm apart from stealing from a charity and throwing a contents of a bag all over the street. I left the bag outside all day yesterday for one charity to claim and all day today without any charity picking it up. Last week I left a bag outside all day Monday (for a different charity) without it being picked up. The bag went Wednesday - at the time I was pleased but now wonder if the contents are in a bin somewhere discarded by the charity bag thief - and there was some good stuff in it that I hoped would bring money to charity. I guess I'll carry my bags to the charity shops from now on. Thanks very much to this woman for making me doubt even more..........

I remember when the Olympics were amateur - now there are multi-millionaires collecting another prize - doesn't seem to be quite the same any more. Wonder if medals ought to be awarded to drug companies these days?
  17. I'm so glad its not just me that's dropped their phone down the loo - I put a 'dunking' earlier because I felt such an idiot - obviously there are lots of us..... Mine is still working a couple of months later - good stuff that rice.
  18. Not sure how welcoming the Vauxhall Tavern would be if my partner and I popped in there for a quick drink!
  19. Try putting the whole thing into a bag of rice - sounds ridiculous but the rice will soak up any last remnents of moisture - might be too late now but worth a try - it worked for me when I gave my phone a dunking and they REALLY don't like getting wet.
  20. I don't suppose his cv will end up on the top of any piles though, so perhaps its partly for potential loss of earnings (for the next 17 years) as well.
  21. When money is short I choose between 'doing' things or 'having' things - not trying to stretch myself to both.
  22. Lynchhim - how did you hurt your arm - did the launch party get a bit rowdy? Hope it gets better soon.

And with no people wouldn't the world be a better place! - I'm with DeptfordDiva :)
  24. I did a three day nutrition course and found it basically supported what I would have thought was common sense (I know that 3 days is nothing). However some people need to be told what is a sensible way of eating and whether someone calls themself a nutritionist or a dietician - if they are giving good advice and their advice is being followed - what does it matter what they are called. After my three day course I did a project with a friend and advised her to (a) eat breakfast (b) cut down on coffee © drink more water (d) eat her evening meal earlier (ie at 7.30/8 not at 10.30/11) None of these ideas are particuarly novel and she was able to lose some weight and feel more comfortable in her clothes. Sometimes common sense needs to have a label for people to take it on board. By the way I haven't had acupuncture but I have had dry needling from an NHS doctor, where acupuncture needles are applied to 'knots' in the muscles - pain disappeared within 3 sessions where previously I had been to osteopaths (woo) and occupational therapists (non-woo) for months without such success.

    Greece

One of my friends is half Greek and she said that all her friends and neighbours are moaning about how much the prices have gone up - far more than than just the effect of the falling pound against the Euro. Still they do have the cheapest petrol in the Eurozone!
