  1. I've always found the ED police really helpful over the years, with everything from burglaries, through disputes with neighbours to stolen mobile phones.
  2. People chucking rubbish out of their car windows like the delightful lady who has just chucked a disposable coffee cup into the gutter just outside my house. She doesn't live here so she doesn't care. Take it home and dispose of it responsibly please.
  3. I couldn't be bothered to look actually - I think I would have had to tick various boxes and obviously you could lie - but honestly life is just too short and I don't want to watch anything that much.
  4. I missed it as I was out, so I've just tried to watch it online. You have to be 18 to watch it online............
  5. I went to a Grammar and loved it - however if I hated it I wouldn't want Grammars banned just because of my bad experience.
  6. Can't remember if this has been mentioned, people especially adults who should know better, who cycle on the pavement. I am the pedestrian the pavement is for ME. People who don't acknowledge when a car stops at a zebra crossing - even a smile is nice. People who refer to roles in soap operas as if the characters are real - it's a tv programme for flips sake!
  7. I was mugged at Elephant and Castle in front of several CCTV cameras - great deterrant there. Two of the little darlings that smashed my head on the pavement until I let go of my bags were caught because a member of the public caught them as they ran away. Although my experience was on tape, the evidence was not allowed in court because of a technicality - so the other two lads that ran faster and who got away were not convicted. There is no plethora of CCTV cameras in other European countries that I know of - is crime significantly higher there? And finally: - thanks Keef: "Depressing as it may be, I believe that we are all just little worker ants with very little power, making the world tick on for the big people. We try and read, and we rage against the machine, and we drink and we go on holiday, but at the end of the day we are back at work on Monday, making the wheels turn, and earning the money to go on holiday and drink... We then have kids, and they go on to live the same lives we're living, and really and truly, it could be a lot bloody worse!" I'm off to slit my wrist because if that really is all there is then what is the fecking point?

Well there are loads of places that you will be happy in around here - and actually some of us DO want originality or at least something that isn't an idenkit bar. I don't think it is better than everywhere else, however I like the freshness and the lightness of it, I like the flowers on the table, and like the charming service, and reading through the recent posts on this thread there are several other people who like it for the same reasons. Why does it have to be a competitition? I like it so I will go there, you don't so you won't.
  9. The Florence is very nice - went there a couple of weekends back and it was only when I saw the menu that I realised that they were the same chain (doh!).
  10. Blind cricket - isn't that played with balls that have bells or something else in them so that the batsmen can hear them coming? Ironically enough I believe that originated in Australia (although I may be wrong).
  11. Goodness - I thought the same as DM as in Tantric Sex - I thought I was going to read about the underbelly in ED life that I never knew existed! Luckily all is revealed or not as it may be.............
  12. Beaten up, comfy old leather couches - mmmm that sounds really original!!! I think I like the Magnolia because it isn't trying to be the same as everywhere else.
  13. Are au pairs even meant to be looking after kids at the weekend? My understanding was that an au pair is in England to learn the language and looks after kids or does some housework in return for board and lodgings and a small amount of cash. They aren't meant to be a cheap alternative to a nanny or other full time childcare.
  14. Hi I'm afraid we heard the crunch but were already too far away to see what happened - by the tyre shop. We did wonder what had happened, and hoped that no-one was hurt. However as we saw nothing and as I hate the idea of hanging around accidents unless you are actually a useful witness, we went home. Was it you in the BMW and is the front wing a total write-off? I hope you get something sorted out as quickly and as painlesly as possible.
  15. However if you get membership for Brockwell park, which apparently is not much more on a monthly basis, then you can use that membership for ED and PP (so I've been told).
  16. I am not sure if that is suspicious or whether it indicates that the staff are not necessarily as well trained as they could be in all aspects of membership. Did you ask the aame person? Some of the staff who work in the gym or at reception might not be aware of all the available options.
  17. Well done G&B - look forward to buying some more wines from you.
  18. I hear that Greece is very expensive now, whilst central or southern Italy is still fairly reasonable. Turkey being out of the Eurozone will probably be cheaper still.
  19. That might be because the Mag(nolia) seems to be an attempt to be something different and a reflection of the owner. I am not 100% sure what exactly Rose is aiming for though! Whilst the Adventure bar seems to be rehashing a formula which has worked well before.
  20. Er - I've never needed to go to the Gents before to go to the loo so probably would feel slightly put out to go to the Gents there.
  21. I am eating my words although not their food until next week. I went there yesterday and was very pleasantly suprised. I thought Rose was doing a sterling job, she is obviously very keen that the place will be a success. I thought it had a continental feel to it. I personally far prefered it to the Adventure Bar (shows my age I guess) and look forward to going back.
  22. Dump them in the way you would find least painful if you were the dumpee.
  23. I can't offer any help but would like to wish you luck - please let us (or at least me by PM) how it goes - it would be something of a dream of mine to make wine............. I'll even come and help you pick them if you contact me!!
  24. Brian Blessed chairing on Have I Got News for You was truely magnificent.
