I take no offence to someone disagreeing with me; I would be in a permanently offended state otherwise!
-
Not @ me Rianoo, the 'not a great argument' I was referring to was LadyD's.
-
Not a great argument either. Are you saying that potential punishment is not a deterrent? I suspect that a lot of crimes back in the day were committed out of necessity (stealing food, for example) and any prospective punishment was less important than the need to stay alive.

can your family get by without a car?
Chillaxed replied to canela's topic in The Family Room Discussion
No car for us (with a 2 year old). We walk to anywhere in Dulwich, Peckham, Herne Hill, use the bus or train for trips to the Southbank, West End, etc, hire a Zipcar for big shopping trips or day trips (and always pull into Sainsbury's on the way home to stock up on bulky items), and hire a car from a 'proper' car hire place for longer, UK holidays. Taxi's for everything else. Works great and saves us money and hassle, but the acid test will be when (and where) our young one begins school, and/or when we have another. Good luck! -
I'd also like to know what the police said. I live nearby the roads mentioned and 4 blades stuck (it seems deliberately) in the pavement cannot be ignored.

Thanks all for your responses. Will see how he rolls on the living room rug tonight, comforting hugs at the ready!

I don't think comparing Chavez favourably to 'oil rich allies in the arabian peninsular or west africa' in any way validates his leadership.

Hello. Was wondering at what age you all started your kids off on scooters i.e. the hold the handlebars, one foot on the deck, scoot with your other foot type? Our son has just turned 2 but is very active and has gotten bored with his tri-wheeled, sit-down scooter. Did you use a helmet initially? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

IngridB, that's great news. Harrington's stuff looks cool. -
Does anyone remember Peckham Manor School?
Chillaxed replied to atila the gooner's topic in The Lounge
Fookin' 'ell. At least 3 of the 4 lessons robmoluneux learned at Peckham Manor School are on my 'must have' list for my son's school. Shame it no longer exists. -
Yep, and if you get a sky couch (air bed) you can take your car seat on the plane. Useful for take-offs, landings and hypnotising with the in-flight entertainment. Agree with Pickle re. jet lag ? switch to NZ times asap, even if you have a stopover. Speaking of stopovers, we took one on the way there and were glad we did. The thought of getting back on the plane at LA after the first leg? And remember, you'll have loads of family to babysit when you get there!

Agree with Loz. For me being able to walk half normally in snowboard boots swings it. And to clarify, if you've only ever 'boarded it's totes OK to board even if you're a 40+ Dad...right?

I do occasionally pick up takeaway boxes, etc, but only while muttering about where I'd like to stick said takeaway box. And I'll not stop eating takeaways on the street. See, I put the box in the bin after. You can't legislate for the lowest common denominator.

Definitely think there's a reluctance to challenge the views of wronged people. I think it's because lazy observers put anyone challenging a victim's view in the other side's camp e.g. you're challenging Keith Bennett's Mum's view therefore you're on the side of Brady. This is simplistic but I think a factor. Then of course there's the understandable desire not to offend or rake up bad memories.

what did he put in your kids mouth ????
Chillaxed replied to mashcov's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm sure the school has taken care of that. And I doubt too many EDF'ers have kids at DC. mashcov Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Chillaxed Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Weird post OP. > > > > You'll find that people post about crimes that > > directly affect them or that it is helpful to > know > > about e.g. burglaries and the burglars' modus > > operandi. > > > > Personally I think the fact that the EDF > doesn't > > rabidly obsess over these sorts of crimes to be > in > > its favour. > > > That may be but I think it is a crime that parents > might want to know about particularly if they had > a child attending this school -

Weird post OP. You'll find that people post about crimes that directly affect them or that it is helpful to know about e.g. burglaries and the burglars' modus operandi. Personally I think the fact that the EDF doesn't rabidly obsess over these sorts of crimes to be in its favour. -
Anyone But England. Basically, fans from inferior nations! Ah, makes sense. MM I have the same issue as you with England. My son and most of my friends are English, so I'm trying hard to like them. Didn't help when they walloped us a few months back though... Funny as I have no issue at all with supporting England in most other sports.

Parking in front of driveway - no dropped curb
Chillaxed replied to sfmrs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you're refused permission for a dropped kerb can you still build the driveway? I'd be struggling for sympathy for someone who ignores any safety concerns raised. -
Sorry, Kiwi interloper here, but what does 'ABE'ers' mean?

Hi, Has anyone converted a loft where the pitch of the roof is less than 2m? So, you'd have to either raise the height of the roof (unlikely to get permission as end of terrace), lower the floor (no thanks) or extend the roof's front slope a foot or two so the pitch is higher and further back, if you know what I mean (also likely to run into planning issues). Alternatively, has anyone managed to get permission to add a story or fundamentally change the facade of their end of terrace where it abuts a taller terrace? Not necessarily looking to add to the abundance of shit conversions, just enquiring. Thanks, Chillaxed

*yes, yes, I now, this has probaby been debated on the forum before and yes its been going on for ages, and yes it's men as well as women all trying to look intellectual or wise or sensitive or some bollocks as though that will influence our views on the stuff they grind out, and yes I should probably just put this in the 'little things that cause rage' thread. Perhaps this could be abbreviated to the 'maxxi disclaimer' and those bored of pedants picking their posts apart could tack it on at the end? *maxxi disclaimer

Perhaps, but the tabloids are not represtative of the whole press, so they can't be used to confirm a position and it's lazy to say they reflect society's views. I resent it.
