I've been away for a few days now but prior to that, big problems where I am (Overhill Rd). No service for hours at a time, despite the partner arrangement with T Mobile Good to hear it might be resolved by the time I return! (tu)

I may possibly have to pick up a couple of people from St Thomas's hosp but if not would love to join in! The Actress is a big place - if I PM my mobile could someone give me a vague idea where you are, to save me forlornly wandering about gazing suspiciously at groups of strangers? -

Burglary - Choumert Rd (April 10 2012)

Sorry to hear that. You are NOT to blame! :X -
So....is that it? I expected at least a tiny bit of discussion....!

Hi all. Not sure the best place to post this so I thought I'd start here! Is there such thing as an exchange of skills system yet in ED? Got thinking about this since moving into my new flat here 3 weeks ago. There's a fair bit I want to do to the place so am spending hours looking through the EDF for recommendations for plumbers, gardeners, decorators etc (and very handy it is too!) However I'm a professional classical musician and there are undoubtably people looking at the forum for music/theory/instrumental lessons. I often have free tickets for big concerts in London too, but they are usually wasted! How brilliant to swap these skills to everyone's advantage! (tu) Any thoughts? Helen :)

Very dramatic skyline around 6.45pm here on Overhill!

footpaths? (around Overhill Road)
HelBel65 replied to HelBel65's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well, yes that's fascinating but going back to my question B) - apart from the Green Chain link (thanks for that) is there actually such thing as a footpath map....or at least a walking map for the area? PS someone very cleverly altered the name of my thread - much more helpful actually so thank you! -
Hi all. About to move to Overhill Road and just looked at Google maps to find the best walking route to HOP station. Apart from Overhill Passage, it just shows roads. Anyone know of a footpath map of the area, or even better, a nicer or greener route between those 2 points? Thanks!

East Dulwich, the Notting Hill of the east?
HelBel65 replied to JessieW's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For what it's worth, I think a far more accurate description of ED is the Crouch End of the South. Or CE is the ED of the North. Both much more down to earth and real than the likes of Notting Hill. More affordable too (though still pricey). I made the move South a year ago and have enormous affection for both - as a Crouchender at heart, I feel very at home here :) -
Thanks for the replies - all confirming what I have been seeing, and particularly agree about the impact of Foxtons & KFH. Luckily I can bide my time and wait for the right place. Not sure why my this thread got moved to The Lounge though! (?) Cheers Helen

Hi all. I'm renting in ED with plans to buy here. Looking for a 2 bed with garden. I'm chain free with a mortgage ready to go so have the luxury of waiting for the right place. Currently what I'm seeing is the right kind of place coming onto the market with the 'national' agents (you know who I mean) priced a good 10% above what I can afford. The agents concerned are aggressively telling me my budget is too low. The same properties are dropping by 10% within a month or 2. Part of me is reassured by this - clearly the market is telling these agents the price is too high. Should I offer the full 10% less at the outset? Is that realistic or does it depend on the agent? Am I being too honest about my budget? Should I be more confident about my buying power and less intimidated by the BS I'm getting from these agents? Anyone got any thoughts or inside info on this section of the market - I'm in the ?300k bracket. Thanks! (tu) Best Helen

Well I didn't mean to be rude by reposting - just thought I must have posted on the wrong board! I'll repost with a more relevant title!

I'm referring to the Overhill Road area. Is that not considered to be ED? It's a genuine question which was not answered helpfully in the Lounge. Ah well!

I have put the same post up twice on this board today and twice it has been removed. The first one was moved to the Lounge (and is now marked as closed) and, thinking it was my error, I posted it again here couple hours ago - again it has gone. Have I inadvertantly caused offence or done something inappropriate? It was a question about the area around the Bredinghurst flats. Thanks.

Hi all Looking to buy a flat in the area soon. Really like the bit around Camberwell Old Cemetery. Is there anything I should know about buying a period property in very close proximity to the Bredinghurst or Ladlands flats? I don't know anything about them - privately owned or Local Authority/combination of both? I don't want to lazily assume there's any problem at all but it would be useful to know if there have been problems of any kind or anything to be aware of - the estate agent is hardly likely to tell me! I could put this on the Property board but the question is really more about the experiences of local residents. Thanks!
