  1. I think she's great, and it was an interesting discussion. H
  2. Inspired by this thread I just did all my shopping for tonight's curry on the Lane, mostly in SMBS. They were very helpful about different types of chilli, best potatoes for bombay aloo etc. Can't imagine that happening in Sainsburys somehow... Then I celebrated with a mini spree in Shannon's Garden Centre, a new discovery, so I reckon I've done my bit for the local economy today!
  3. You mean you didn't actually go for a curry? Oh no! :-(
  4. Sorry can't make it after all - got the date wrong. Doh :-(
  5. I'm with you on this, wildthing. Be great to find some local motivation. We're not all nutters! Ps how about meeting for a curry to discuss (only kidding) H :-)
  6. I found this to be a temporary problem, seems fine now. iPhone 4s/Overhill Rd
  7. Yes I bought it Re AC/DC - no idea, tell me more!
  8. I live opposite Dawsons Heights on Overhill Road. I too wondered about it when I first viewed my property, so I decided to visit the street at different times of day and night to see what it was like - always very quiet. I also wandered through the grounds of the flats, and found it quiet and very well kept. The flats are a mix of local authority/housing assc and privately owned. I don't know a lot more about it other than from my neighbour who has lived on Overhill for 50 years! He says the improvement in the area in the past few years has been amazing. Make sure you visit the little convenience shop on Overhill which is part of the flats, and a pleasant stroll up Donkey Alley from Hillcourt - a lovely and friendly Asian family run it. I've only been here since March but I love it. Worry not! (tu)
  9. Walk to the end of your road where it meet Goodrich and head up Donkey Alley for the best views of London :-)
  10. Yep absolutely hopeless on Overhill all morning!(td)
  11. > Bigger shopping area means more streets and space, > not sure what you think I meant. East Dulwich has > one main rather narrow street - Lordship Lane. > Not the same with Crouch End. The approach into > Crouch End from Highgate (where M&S is is also > much wider. At the Clock Tower the road > splits......... > > so if you moved to ED from Crouch End it sounds > like you want some sort of mini replica area? Not a replica no - just that I have seen that it can work without damaging the area (in my opinion) and I enjoyed having the choice there. And I was relieved (like everyone else in Crouch End) that the arrival of Waitrose/M&S didn't destroy the existing independents. Fair point about the street layout - but the 4 shops I mentioned really are very close to each other, yet it still seems to work....ED is more spread out. Waitrose, if it came here, could easily end up being near or beyond Goose Green for example, or up towards the Plough.
  12. - 2-3 large courgettes (grated with a cheese grater) - 1 chilli (more if you like it) - 2 cloves garlic - Packet of parma ham or proscuitto crudo - Penne pasta - 3 tb spoons olive oil Gently fry garlic and chilli in olive oil in a large frying pan to infuse. Add grated courgette. Add salt and decent amount of pepper. Fry for 10-12 minutes. Add torn up parma ham. Drain penne and tip into frying pan...toss with courgette mixture. Empty into a warm bowl. Fresh parmesan on top + glass of Italian red = deeply satisfying. I spotted this yesterday and decided to do it for a visiting friend....when she arrived she announced she was on a carb free diet! Doh!
  13. > Crouch End shopping area is a bigger area than > East Dulwich. Not true. Waitrose, Tesco Metro, Budgens and M+S Food together with several long established and much loved independents are all within a 2 or 3 minute walk of the Clocktower - they all seem to be thriving. That's the point. The only independent to close in Crouch End recently was, sadly, the bookshop and that can hardly be blamed on the supermarkets... I said earlier on this thread - once M+S is here, Waitrose won't be far behind and I stick by that. Having just moved here from Crouch End, I will be quite happy!
  14. Nice evening, good company and not a bad curry either! :))
  15. Me too (tu) Been in Germany for 2 weeks and gagging for a curry!
  16. I can confidently predict that if M+S opens in ED, Waitrose won't be far behind. It happened in Crouch End a couple of years ago. H
