  1. hello hey im sorry if i appear uninformed or self indulgent i hope im neither ......i just didnt express my self very well? but thanks mockney piers for the mc crae poem and i any one is interested 'the regeneration trilogy 'by Pat Barker is a truly astounding work . i wish id never mentioned white poppies ! at least it started some debate ps im wearing white and red poppies on my coat . and i am againt war and 'killing strangers as a way of resolving conflict'

  6. there is also a house recently sold which i believe to have been a dairy just of felbrigg road down an alley at the north cross road end , there was also a dairy in lugard road in peckham until about 1972 .a great book for all this is 'east dulwich remembered' written by a local person cant recall the name its available in CHENER BOOKS ,with all manner of interesting fcts about the area theres a peckham and nunhead one too ,the dulwich caff used to be a shop called 'home and colonial '!! how very hip for ed in 1932 !

  8. i stopped a man wearing a white poppy yesterday in peckham ,i hadnt seen them for years i was beginning to think id dreamt them .......he got them in hausmanns bookshop in kings cross ,they mark and remember the loss of human life in war but do not condone war they say peace in the middle he kindly gave me one :] but good on you poppy man
  9. if your looking for bigger sizes and reaonably priced clothes have you been into grace and favour recently ? they are selling recycled ie second hand and some vintage clothes all cleaned of course { mostly womens } ive bought some lovley things in there mainly about the ten pound mark and in very good nick ,good labels etc they get new stuff each week :}

  12. went there on saturday night the staf were disinterested the drin were epensive the music was on ver loudly and was dance music ...fine.. but people were eating resataurant styleee and prices to match ,we asked for a change in music to somethng more mellow ...nothing happened i think the manager was texting too much to take any notice .. not good enough

  16. any one fancy swapping books for free i have boxes and boxes to swap everything from paul auster to helen dunmore from kurt vonnegut to john banville . it would be a great kind of recycling ....have any of you read about book dropping a new fad to sweep the smoke ? leave your book on the bus or tube with a post it note 'saying take me im free :)'
  17. none of you lot lived in east dulwich when it had NO 'shops full of tat '.........or did you ? bet you went to the west end for your tat then didnt you ? but that was before terrorist attacks and going organic became trendy shopping local became a fashion statement surely the most useful shop in east dulwich is the wonderful ''run by sophie and her brother with everything from teapots to mousetraps to hoover bags for all hoovers EVER its been there since 1967

  19. the curry cabin is my personal favourite on lordship lane the guys are from bangladesh and super friendly to me any how .try the bangaldeshi specials ask for the food to have no colouring and it WONT . tapeli chicken is good coconut rice and the garlic nan very nice i nearly forget the prawn puri starter beats any bhaji style appetiser , the decor is dated who cares ! its spotless and is run by the same family the out side new seating is for you smokers ...... ps its the longest est curry house in LL if im not mistaken ps the mosque folk folk have opened a shop on north cross road , where youll find ghee corainder , and all kinds of spices etc if smbs is closed
  20. god you people need to get out more !! ive lived in peckham for 28 years peckham park road then bellenden road walk home from east dulwich on a regular basis , rye lane fabulous for all the basics fruit and vegetables non organic of course two carrier bags fullfor ?3.50 on the stall by the station served with a smile . woollies for pick and mix . petit tou if you feel like splashing out on tea and cakes and babycinos ! fenton walsh , the great review bookshop , the excellent crossroads cafe friendly and filling full english only 3.50 with tea etc open sundays too .casa , and the new organic shop bayberry , julies junk shop on choumert road , the amazing vietnamese shop next to hsbc for king prawns and every ingredient youll ever need for pacific rim cooking and the excellent persepolis on peckham high street for persian food goodies not forgetting edwardes bicycle shop on over the road AND primarni for clothes bargains . the best train station in terms of connections on rye lane . need i go on oh yes and ive never been mugged stabbed or burgled but for all you closet racists on the forum dont come if you dont like black people they live here TOO
  21. there used also to to be some wild shenanigans above the old yilmaz kebab restaurant and evil drug taking .now the very repsectable yilmaz i may add yes plenty of plods up there and they used to sell alcohol all night but then i believe thats still the case in many another shop inlordship lane
  22. i was in northcross road on wednesday the tenth of october i saw three girls who sound like the three of the four you mention above . they were loud and went into grace and favour , then left the owner followed them into willow they left i did not hear what was said . they then went up ncr and went into lacon road . i believe these girls may be the ones who recently robbed our local postman on his round , if so they are indeed unafraid and very bold .
  23. this night is run by a friend of mine and its only on once a month the first sunday of each month . i say this only to save you a wasted journey to page 2 , yes the music is of a consistantly high standard imho
