At the moment I use the quiet route from Peckham to Burgess Park. That's fantastic. I'm a very experienced cyclist but being able to avoid both the Walworth Road and Old/New Kent roads makes my commute so much nicer and safer. I'd welcome any expansion of this network.

Do you know when he was at St John's? I went there in the 70's but I only really remember Father Strudwick from St Clements.

To the owner of this car. If I were you I'd come and have a look at it. The tyres are flat, the cover is off and flapping in the wind and the hubcaps have come off. Why not start the new year by moving it outside your own house?

Perfect storm might be houses that are about the right size in an area largely not ruined by estates and 60's town planning, nice local schools and green spaces. Add in a few decent pubs and restaurants and you've got yourself a storm.

And just to steer the thread back on topic the reason why new shops are opening and the market is busy is that they can provide something that Sainsbury's can't like the much debated sourdough loaf. We even seem to be bucking the trend and driving betting shops out of town.

Except without Westfield and the Olympics. Stratford was always a dump and always will be. ED has always been a nice place to be and hopefully will remain so. That's why people want to move here.

Sopers are cheaper.. But probably not Tesco prices. Their Mackerel is always delicious.

You could get your shopping delivered then you don't need to drive anywhere. The main problem is probably that lots of households have more than one car. I think most streets in London have the same pressure on space. It's not all caused by lorries delivering skip loads of sourdough and olives to the market.

Ours is working.. But slowly.

I always feel very self conscious if I'm walking being a woman in situations like this. My usual tactic is to cross the road and hurry past as fast as possible. Some men might not be aware that they seem threatening. The OP did the right thing. Better to be safe than sorry.

From what I understand of Italian cuisine they are suspicious of the food from the next town let alone another region.

I'm sorry but this is a very sad comment. Do you honestly think people go and buy a loaf bread so they can gloat that it might be too pricey for other people? Fags are about ?8 a packet. That doesn't seems to stop people from all over the country, rich or poor, chuffing them down by the bucketload. Maybe smokers are gloating looking at me as they spark up in the belief I can't afford their stinking cigs?

Look. To be honest people can buy what bread they want wherever the heck they want to buy it for as much, or little, as they want to spend.

In any case not exactly a revelation that a huge supermarket chain could undercut a local artisan bakery.
