  1. Sitting in my office with absolutely naff all to do (well there is a bit but I'm not doing it).
  2. I think if you really want a proper swim it's worth going to the 50m pool at Crystal Palace.

  4. 'Miss the Photographer guy that used to be outside Clippers. Used to stop and have a chat. Knowledgeable guy.' The photographer was a good bloke. He's moved to the Isle of Wight but I think he does Northcote Rd market on Saturdays if you fancy hopping on the 37.
  5. Perfect storm might be houses that are about the right size in an area largely not ruined by estates and 60's town planning, nice local schools and green spaces. Add in a few decent pubs and restaurants and you've got yourself a storm.
  6. And just to steer the thread back on topic the reason why new shops are opening and the market is busy is that they can provide something that Sainsbury's can't like the much debated sourdough loaf. We even seem to be bucking the trend and driving betting shops out of town.
  7. Blimey. I agree with a whole Louisa post.
  8. Except without Westfield and the Olympics. Stratford was always a dump and always will be. ED has always been a nice place to be and hopefully will remain so. That's why people want to move here.
  9. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Quids they were forced out by the threat of > gentrification in the future. > This does sound like tosh. Why would a stall holder move out of an area because people with more disposable cash are moving in? I just think Orpington is one of those places that the white working class like to retire to.
  10. Sopers are cheaper.. But probably not Tesco prices. Their Mackerel is always delicious.
  11. You could get your shopping delivered then you don't need to drive anywhere. The main problem is probably that lots of households have more than one car. I think most streets in London have the same pressure on space. It's not all caused by lorries delivering skip loads of sourdough and olives to the market.
  12. Ours is working.. But slowly.
  13. I'm not saying this person wasn't being deliberately creepy. Just making the point that it can happen innocently. She did the right thing.
  14. I always feel very self conscious if I'm walking being a woman in situations like this. My usual tactic is to cross the road and hurry past as fast as possible. Some men might not be aware that they seem threatening. The OP did the right thing. Better to be safe than sorry.

    PIZZA

From what I understand of Italian cuisine they are suspicious of the food from the next town let alone another region.
  16. 'The problem is that people seem to believe that if some thing is twice the price it must be better. Especially if they feel they can afford to eat something that's off limits to others...' I'm sorry but this is a very sad comment. Do you honestly think people go and buy a loaf bread so they can gloat that it might be too pricey for other people? Fags are about ?8 a packet. That doesn't seems to stop people from all over the country, rich or poor, chuffing them down by the bucketload. Maybe smokers are gloating looking at me as they spark up in the belief I can't afford their stinking cigs?
  17. Look. To be honest people can buy what bread they want wherever the heck they want to buy it for as much, or little, as they want to spend.
  18. In any case not exactly a revelation that a huge supermarket chain could undercut a local artisan bakery.
  19. Checking out the sourdough prices in San Francisco it seems like their prices are equivalent to ED: http://store.boudinbakery.com/rounds--loaves-c5.aspx
  20. You can buy a very servicable loaf in Boulangerie Jade for ?3.

  22. Maybe sourdough is the new sour grapes?
  23. They put a note in their window saying thanks for local support (which is nice). Hopefully they'll get over it ok. Must have been horrible for them.
