  1. Thanks. Yes I know that way. I've pretty much tried every route possible. I love cycling and it takes a lot of the stress out of the morning commute but thinking about it there have been a couple of times on various routes home, including Burgess parked where I was followed on a scooter for a bit, where I felt uneasy. And sometimes possibly recklessly rode home late at night through those quiet paths. I might get another Brompton and ride in then get the train home (especially in the winter months).
  2. One of my colleagues was also robbed for their bike on the Q1 late one evening. He was ambushed by a dozen or so youths who surrounded him on a quiet stretch. He just handed the bike over to them. Very frightening. If I get another bike I'm not sure I'll use this route again.. Which is sad as it's very safe compared to the Old Kent Road.
  3. I know a lot of ED residents must commute by bike to central London so just flagging this up. I commute along the Peckham Quiet route and join up with the Q1 cycleway near the Old Kent Road and ride to London Bridge. Last week at 6.30 in the evening I was jumped by two masked youths, dragged off my Brompton and the bike was stolen. This happened in the backstreets near the old Hartley's Jam factory. They weren't violent and didn't hurt me which is at least one thing. By the speed it happened they've obviously done this before. I have travelled this route for two years with no issues but if you use this route it's worth being vigilant.
  4. I saw a white one in a tree next to Kingsdale School a couple of months ago.
  5. I think we all deserve to know just what the heck was going on.
  6. > and leave it standing empty? I would rather it > was squatted. Well .. I think the intention is to reopen as a pub.
  7. I guess that's the plan. From what I hear there is definitely a plan to reopen the pub.
  8. There are notices on the outside now to say that the owners will be taking back possession next week.
  9. Shame to see it go. But it was never busy.
  10. Don't forget St John's and St Clement's School.
  11. No .. Just keeping fingers crossed. I absolutely love scruffy backstreet pubs and the Gowlett is one of the best.
  12. > Me too - about 5 mins ago - and he should know > what he?s talking about. Great
  13. Oh dear. According to Gowlett Twitter they're hoping to be open around 19th December?
  14. I hope so too. Rode past it this morning but no change to notes in the window.
  15. It will be a massive loss if it closes for good. I thought it got the mix just right catering for everyone as a good neighbourhood pub.
  16. FFS.. What do you think this whole thread is about?
  17. I'm working on a national daily paper today. Searched wires from yesterday and no reports at all of a shooting.
  18. It's just the latest outpost of the evil Harris empire.
  19. Good Desert Island Discs with local bon viveur and raconteur MF: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09fjls1
  20. The note in the Gowlett window does say they hope to re open. I hope they do.
  21. Hopefully they can find a solution to reopen. Maybe a community pub along Ivy House lines?
  22. I like it.. Although it is a bit small. Much nicer than crappy flats.
