  1. I would advise a trip to Utah beach which is up near Caen. St Mere Eglise is a great little village. Buy the dvd of the Longest Day before you go and write down some place names. I think I've had some of my all time greatest meals in Normandy too.
  2. That's exciting. I saw the Tate birds last year (through the RSPBs scopes). I imagine Dawson's heights would be a cracking perch for Brer Falcon.
  3. Don't forget you pay VAT on top. It can come as a nasty surprise.
  4. The last time I sold (last August) we managed to get 1.35% (it's still a hell of a lot of money). There's a lot of competition so worth trying to barter.
  5. At least a cigar butt is biodegradable, it's just a bunch of leaves.
  6. I think if people carry bags they are probably resposible dog owners and likely to use them.. Not sure what the dog ratio of dumps per walk is but I reckon it's about one. The pavements in ED are pretty clean compared to where I used to live in Battersea where the pavements were covered in turds (mainly dropped by yoof walking their Staffs). I hate the filthy cur.
  7. I'm not keen on Target Arms.. It seems to mainly stock deactivated firearms (which I assume the average teenager can reactivate with ease to gain some respeck).
  8. Sean.. Is it an enormous fluffy thing? If so It regularly parades along our section of cemetary wall at the back. I think it may just be taking advantage of your hospitality.
  9. The Plough was fine before they added that monstrous carbuncle of a conservatory on the back and refurbed it (although it did smell of chips in the evening). I never set foot in the CPT in those days but my dad liked it.
  10. The Grove House Tavern was great in the 80s
  11. I lived here from the mid 60s to 1990 and recently moved back. I don't exactly remember being being rundown (any more than anywhere else was in the 1970s). I think under Thatcher the parks suffered badly and it's nice to see them looking nice again.
  12. Yes please.. We need some good shops down there.
  13. Point taken.. I'm lucky to have the option. I'm on the 63 / Northern Line strategy tonight (doh!).
  14. Get a bike. I get from Ryedale to Camden in 40 minutes.
  15. I walked past them a couple of days ago.. I think they were playing chess by their open window.
  16. No tube keeps riff raff away.
  17. I vaguely remember that being filmed (I would have been at St John's and St Clement's on Archdale at the time).
  18. For a main bus route into town it's stil too infrequent I think.. especially as there is no alternative.
  19. Having just moved back to ED after years away I thought with Ken's new pro bus transport policy there would be millions of buses. Unfortunately it's still the same as it was. My wife has to get the 176 to the Strand which is rubbish and last week I had the bright idea of getting the Northern Line to Oval and hopping on a 185 to Dulwich Hamlet FC.. I walked to Camberwell and got a 40, not a single bus of any number passed me.
  20. Some youths tried to push me off my bike last night. I was cycling south along Portland St, SE17 at about 6pm. They ran into the road and tried to grab me. Luckily they missed. If you ride that way keep your eyes peeled. I think I'll find another route.
  21. Franklins do a delicious bacon sarnie, yes it's poncey, it's ?5 and it might even have rocket in it, but it's tasty.
  22. Dressing up a dog's dinner with rocket really would be poncey.
  23. When I was getting a black cab from Victoria a few nights ago the cabbie said the only fares he picks up south of the river are going to either ED or Clapham. He seemed happy enough to take my ?27.
  24. That would be a great idea.
