Love cupcakes - can't see how you can make much money selling them though. The cupcake shop in CP closed down recently to concentrate on online sales - not surprised TBH, the place was often empty and seemed to be frequented only by students and 'home' workers who would buy a single cup of coffee - rarely a cupcake - and would sit hogging tables for hours on end jabbing away at their laptops.

Abysmally selfish, although having said that, the cat may be better of with someone who will look after it properly. Every cloud etc. -

I get pretty irritated when I am only given the option of Ms (as opposed to Miss/Mrs/Ms) on any form that I have to fill in.

If someone doesn't agree with you call their opinion moronic - now that's class...

Hmm.... the tone with which someone says addresses you can be offensive, and if the intent is there then I don't think that an innocent word such as 'lady' or 'gentleman', or even 'woman' or 'man' can necessarily contain the insult - it is more the context. I don't believe there is any right or wrong here, but I do think it is ill mannered to take offence when clearly none was intended. Some find a man saying 'ladies first' insulting, I find it quite charming and am not at all averse to chivalry :), although I don't expect it. I don't find that chivalry demeans me or insults me - I can hold my own in this world very well, including in a somewhat male dominated workplace - I just see it as one of the many pleasantries that a civilised society can extend to each other.

I, for one, would be disappointed if the term 'lady' was driven from common use, coupled with the fact that it would never occur to my female acquaintances to object to that term being used as they would see it as a form of politeness . Long may it continue to thrive!

This thread is just regurgitating itself ad nauseum. Perhaps it can be summed up as follows - some females object to being referred to as ladies, some find it offensive, some couldn't care less and some are quite happy being so referred to. Thing is, whatever your view, don't try and force others into adopting your opinion - and please have some consideration for the fact that if someone inadvertently refers to you as a lady they are not intending to insult you, in fact, probably far from it.

FFS - I am learned, worldly wise, intelligent and intolerant of injustice and inequality and I have NO PROBLEM AT ALL with being referred to as a lady at times - wish it were more times! Stop trying to force your hang ups down other people's throats, live and let live. There ..... sorted :)

Night night loves! Will leave you wimmin to continue the debate :D

Happy with 'ladies and gentlemen' though [snort!] My workplace is very PC. I remember a few years ago I was in a small team of women and when we emailed the group we prefaced the content with 'Ladies'. My boss was cc'd into one or two of the emails and told us to stop starting the group emails with the word 'Ladies' - even though we were all female and happy with the term - as he thought it was sexist to refer to gender. he insisted we start the group emails with 'All'. We took no notice...

Not too keen on 'dear' though, although it doesn't keep me awake at night.

Absolutely happy with either - in fact I am delighted to be called a lady. Life's too short too get het up over such things .... it really, really is.

There is a gentleman's outfitters in a market town that I often visit that has a waist to upper thigh mannequin with a HUGE packet exhibiting a succession of Y-Fronts. I am no prude but I have to avert my eyes each time I pass!

Not every 14, or even 12 year old girl is going to have the same epiphany in terms of sexual enlightenment, and not every girl starting er periods going to fancy going out with older boys. A fair few do, however - simple as that. For what it's worth, I don't find it odd for middle aged people - male or female - discussing puberty on a thread titled 'when I was 14 years old', and I find it kind of odd that people would.
