Nice park too. South Norwood > Lake in one direction and Crystal Palace in the > other. Upper Norwood is CP apparently, or rather Upper Norwood is the original but it became called CP for obvious reasons. As for the traffic around the CP triangle, you don't notice it if you live there - much like many parts of London. The plus side of the triangle is that everything is everything is close by - plus as the area is compact it is very easy to get to know each other. It is getting expensive though, so if the OP is looking for a larger property they will find better value in the other Norwoods and Penge. And NewX? What's it like now?

Penge has a lot of potential and is (very) gradually changing in a positive way. I have various friends who moved there from CP for the same reason as you and certainly don't regret it

Having lived in the area for 26 years I think that the one way system is fractionally more successful for CP than the previous system. Anyway - back on topic, I am a big fan of CP and most people who come to live there seem to love it. Anerley considerably cheaper though - depends what OPs motives for moving are. NewX I used to know very well 25 years ago or so - has it changed much?

I am thinking New > Cross, Crystal Palace or Annerley (but, weirdly, > not Penge). Does anyone have any further thoughts? Depends why you are moving - is it for a larger house at a cheaper price than ED? If so, can't speak for NewX but Anerley will be quite a bit cheaper, is on the edge of the lower part of Crystal Palace Park and is a short hop from the bars/restaurants of CP too (albeit uphill, although buses run past every couple of minutes or so). Anerley is somewhat run down but is trying to pull its socks up, locals have applied for regeneration money http://www.crystalpalacelife.com/index.php/kunena/anerley-regeneration-project/86-anerley-regeneration-project and has had a small flurry of interesting little independent business open up including an ice-cream shop, a sweetie shop, a retro beauty salon and a great little Italian bistro. Crystal Palace is lovely - a good selection of independent shops plus lots of bars/pubs/restaurants - but prices have shot up dramatically over the last decade or so. The fact that the heart of CP is formed of a triangle rather than a long, straight high street lends itself to a community feel. I wouldn't say it is the 'new ED' as hopefully it will retain its own individual character.

Does anybody know > what is going on?? A cinema for CP - I flipping wish! (and so do the residents of CP). In short, Picturehouse cinemas were hoping to restore the old cinema to its former glory when it was sold by the Bingo chain that had inhabited it for some years but were beaten in the bid by KICC, a supposed church (which largely seems to be a front for money making on a large scale from those who can least afford it) who wanted to bus in thousands from outside the area for 'services'. Bromley council turned down the change of use intention but KICC refuse to sell. Picturehouse are still waiting in the wings and the CP community are very much behind them. The battle has been going on for some years :( http://www.campaign.picture-palace.org/ http://www.crystalpalacelife.com/index.php/kunena/general-chat/90-cinema-for-crystal-palace#1633 http://www.virtualnorwood.com/forum/topic/12460-25-church-road/

A lot of people (for centuries) have been into BDSM in one form or another though, so it is not surpsrising that it features in porn movies. BDSM is a big spectrum too, from someone who gets a kick out of having their bot smacked, to someone who likes dressing in latex to a couple of people who get a sexual kick out of adopting a dominant or submissive role in a relationship. Not by any means a mysoginistic bent as many of those who prefer the submissive role are men. All good, fun, healthy stuff :)

  13. Hope you get it resolved Sue. My old Dell laptop has died but I hate it so much I am not going to bother getting it mended. Re Windows8, as a relative luddite I quite like it. It takes a day or so to get used to it and to personalise the start page to work for you but it does seem quicker and easier than previous versions now I have done that.
  14. I rented in ED for a year in 1981 - largely because it was the cheapest area we could find. Rough is probably a bit steep but it was generally pretty run down, absolutely nothing fancy but affordable for student nurses. The pubs were a bit rough and ready but I felt safe enough in the area. Couldn't believe the difference when I re-visited for the first time about 25 years later. Tried to buy a bottle of balsamic in a deli and came out empty handed and goggle-eyed at the prices! Have lived in Crystal Palace for the last 26 years (cheap as chips when I moved here) and have seen a big shift in the area too (much to many people's horror but I'm not complaining). Mind you, I haven't noticed any shifting in S Norwood....

It is probably wiser to ask the question on a local forum rather than the EDF, such as this one: http://www.virtualnorwood.com/forum/topic/12251-thinking-of-buying-in-south-norwood-advice-please/

  17. Well, as people have pointed out a fair bit of it is grotty - hence the low prices despite the transport links. It's simple as that really.
  18. As someone else said, the area around S Norwood Lakes is quite nice and not far from Crystal Palace station, triangle and park. More expensive than much of S Norwood consequently but less expensive that ED. Penge might be worth a look too - especially the bit closer to CP Park. After all these years there are signs of Penge pulling it's socks up http://www.virtualnorwood.com/forum/topic/12521-penge-it-gets-better/

That's good to hear. I guess part of the point is though that I don't expect others to agree or to change their own views - my partner is a confirmed carnivore and is not concerned re provenance. I am happy to live and let live.

    ereader

A 7 inch tablet weighs roughly the same as a kindle and can be held easily in your palm. I use my Samsung Tab as a kindle reader as I found kindle books to be more competitively priced than other e-book stores. All depends what you want from the device I suppose. Some of the newer tablets cost about the same as an e-reader so personally I would go for something that can do a little more for me.

    Organic food

I would pay extra for meat that had been reared in a pleasant and stress free natural environment and slaughtered in as 'humane' a way as possible. I must admit I am verging on veggie as if I think about the animal that I am eating and how it has probably died my appetite disappears. I wouldn't expect others to share my views though.
