  1. In a nutshell, yes Ridgely. But it's a measure of just how far Out There they have become that we (by which I mean the US) finds ourselves in now
  2. Anyone believe that the current argument is financial not political? Surely it's largely born out of the republican/Tea Party hatred of Obama? If Bush was in power the current limit would be raised without the blink of an eye
  3. Plenty of dark news around to fuel that feeling of dread, it's true Ridgely. We may not be at the end of this period, but history shows us we have been up against worse before
  4. Agreed with DC there But I would also add, nutterdom brings with it, by definition, that element of something you can?t plan for. By and large, security measures imposed on us since Sep 11 have been reactive, not carefully considered plans. In the wake of those attacks we were told that sweeping reviews would take place ? but it was years later when it appeared as if some liquids might be used before the liquid ban came into force. Nor were we asked to take off our shoes before the shoe-bomber Are we any safer as a result? I think on balance not only are we not safer but we are worse off. If you are a terrorist now you just have to look through a list of things they check for and do something else. I over-simplify but you get the gist. Some nutter somewhere WILL think of a new way and some of us will be victims of that. And I would rather live with that possibility, than have every freedom stripped away Just In Case A lot is being made about this Norwegian idiot posting his manifesto online 90 minutes beforehand or whatever it was ? as if people could somehow have prevented the whole tragedy if only they had acted on this. But have you seen how much lunacy gets posted on the internet every second? What would it take to flag something up as genuinely threatening as opposed to merely delusional? You can?t act on everything So telling people to ?wake up? is all well and good but in practical terms what does it mean
  5. Is it an acronym you are after? Or even just any 2 or 3 letter word? They tend not to work ever I did a search for tattoo earlier and that worked fine
  6. Not true dulwichfox http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,284269,284556#msg-284556
  7. Mathilda is very much getting ready and there will be trouble if it doesn't happen
  8. A spot in ED Warehouse in Zenoria Rd perhaps?
  9. people plural?? I know I-appear-to-be-in-need-of-assistance-Robert is wont to take it, but who were the compadres? Lotty/Kirsty - well done for stepping up and posting so many pics this year. Well done to Jason and Bobby for achieving yet another huge increase in numbers A barry day indeed
  10. I'm guessing wind-up targeted at the tattoo thread to see if anyone is going to renounce a "who is anyone to say what type of business should open" position Also Villager has been registered on the forum for nearly 4 years - they have a pretty fair idea of what the local population are like
  11. to think only a couple of years ago there was a gun shop on Lordship Lane and yet some people are getting antsy about the idea of a tattoo place? Weird I'd like the old Dream Machine record shop under ED Cafe to merge with what was the video shop and be one big tattoo/record shop/hangout place. A slice of Haight Ashbury in South London - marvellous
  12. Hmmm. I suspect a large number of people on here have direct experience of addicts. It's also fair to say (without commenting on AW in particular) that there are some personalities that are destructive with or without drugs. And it isn't really society failing them. I can't imagine any society which has such safety nets that no addict can fail
  13. The guy seems to be getting a lot of airtime as well which he must be loving. He's promising to tell his reasons tomorrow? I can't get my head around this - it's one of those stories where it seems too early to do anything but wonder how the families of victims are feeling Then again you read headlines in the Mail And wonder if "irony" has been redefined whilst you slept There might be some papers who can have "Burning with hatred... The right-wing extremist who hated immigrants and multi-culturalism" as a headline, but I'm not sure the Mail is one of them
  14. I think it's the magnitude of something like Norway which stops many people from commenting - what can you say? It's either 1000 pages of "thoughts with you all" type sentiment or lot's of misguided/plain wrong conjecture Whereas music is universal and personal at the same time. Many of the relatives affected by events in Norway will use music as part of their way of getting through this. And it's that relationship with music which means so many people have something to say about Winehouse There isn't anything good to say about her death. It surely can't be shocking tho? Anyone who has seen her try and perform in the last few years knew it could either go one of two ways?
  15. Fortunately you don't have to (or get to) choose
  16. Didn't stop the sun running a front page blaming it on al Qaeda. God I wish that paper would join notw
  17. In my case yes Tom
  18. Frankito... Ha! Entirely coincidental cross post!
  19. Early series the producers had their fingers crossed... They chose some interesting people and let them get on with it From series 3/4 onward they became arrogant and happy to be a more active big brother. And they picked more desperate people. And then poked them with a metaphorical stick I enjoyed first few series but when that older bloke with the glasses in series 3/4 left after a couple of weeks, that was the bit where lots of people woke up to how rubbish it had become
  20. Tom If it was a carnivore campaigning against FG it might carry more weight (" I eat animal products but care about how they arrive at the table") Your history suggests you are against the consumption of ALL animal products. So some people are wary of you and your motives, even if, in this case, there MIGHT be some merit
  21. And on the subject DJKQ, your last words were "Ted has apologised for all the right reasons...geez can we leave it that" Ted has replied to the contrary so ball back in your court by my reckoning. Choose words carefully now
  22. If this is what anyone thinks, I lose all respect for them. You! You dare speak to me about homophobia when I have spent weeks in a row, on this forum , defending almost alone with people like James, as people defend homophobia. ("oh but I wasn'nt a member then! who is James???" Exactly...tread more carefully) When I have been physically attacked for being "gay"?? And you accuse me of being a defender of homophobia? clique my arse. self-elected, self important, jumped up would-be ombudsman, you are. Didn't you promise to f*** off weeks ago? This claiming of clique is the easiest, pissiest, laziest tactic. I've never met half the people you speak of. But I have met you. You seemed all right. But in the last year you are like some rotweiller of language and semantics. You dare speak of how people use "ponce"? And you compare it to "nigger"?? You should be ashamed of yourself.
  23. to be fair, I think the EDT did briefly flirt with Foie Gras But then again, the EDT, much as I love it, flirts with every foodstuff - you go back 2 weeks later and it's gone anyway.
