  1. Hang on. Wasn't it just last year that Teresa may said she could cut police forces because British people didn't riot? Sorry, but there is wider context. Reducing it to "hug a hoodie" is risible We can all (and do) condemn the thugs as much as we like. Teresa may spent an eternity doing it earlier tonight. But it doesn't achieve anything. These aren't people who respond to being chided As for army and water cannons etc? Do people not have any me,ories of any other parts or the world or even uk, and how "successful" they were. Calm heads required, not overreaction. Watching the whole thing unfold tonight I was surprised to not see police go in harder earlier. I then heard them say "well...people give out when we get tough" Yes.. With peaceful protests, not idiots like tonight
  2. Credit agencies not exactly completely independent or without conflict of interest are they ?
  3. If you are talking about his state of mind with that phrase, I doff my cap to your eloquence sue
  4. Albeit in CAPITAL LETTERS
  5. I went to a small Indian restaurant in Tabard St recently, no alcohol and it's closer to Borough than LB but counts as in the area It had some interesting non-standard dishes, nothing to go wow, but I liked it. It's called Simply Indian - 25 Tabard St
  6. As well as telly highlights, I see several newspapers are not permitted entry to grounds because of a dispute between the football governing bodies and the media groups. So journalists are being prevented from reporting on what's in front of them while 60000 fans can tweet/text to their hearts content. Greedy, ridiculous nonsense http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/championship/8686530/Football-League-clubs-shut-out-reporters-in-dispute-over-rights.html
  7. Thats fantastic. Well dine Katie (and John & co) at chener Made my day that has
  8. I'm suggesting that whoever you voted for, tehban would have happened anyway. The world at large has generally wise up to the effect of smoking. And even tho some smokers remain bitter I know many more who are glad of the ban as it has helped them On balance it's a good thing
  9. smoking bans have become standard across most western countries - Tony Blair doesn't have to take the rap for this one does he?
  10. Ridgley ? that?s the question that cuts to the heart of the debate Does it harm the animal? Well inflating it?s liver so prematurely means it dies early - so that?s clearly not A Good Thing. But you?re already breeding it to kill it so that counter balances the argument a bit. Depending on the farm in question, the animal is quite happy to be overfed (waddling over to the farmer when he comes to feed them etc) and lives it?s rather strange life in better circumstances than battery chickens. But it?s entirely possible for it to be basically kept in grim conditions on other farms As with any food, if you are bothered, check the source as much as possible
  11. Yeah it was a good summary from Ted, and I guess I just saw Huge doing another shouty post and didn?ttake it all in, so didn?t get why Ridge was so upset. I wasn?t saying she shouldn?t be telling H to F off (as I say I?ve done it myself ? although I would add it doesn?t really get one anywhere) I was more saying what was she so angry about in the first place (which If I?d taken the time to read through properly etc etc.. hands up)
  12. Ridgley As someone who has lost my rag with Huguenot myself, I understand the emotion but I can't see why you are being so aggresive in this instance? It just reads like someone telling someone else to F off without good reason
  13. Alec - you are confusing having strong disagreement (which is what people on here are doing) with removing people's choice (which is what Tom has done in contacting the restaurants and having them remove it from the menu) His actions are essentially no different than those of the people who stand outside abortion clinics and try and stop people entering - ie beyond mere disagreement. It takes an emotive (if arguable) subject and bypasses the argument
  14. aha - exactly what I was getting at Bishberro A lot of people think their roads (eg Melbourne Grove thread) are theirs alone, whereas other roads are... well.. public roads innit
  15. No equivalent of Melbourne grove in HOP then?
  16. This thread = closest thing to a consensus this forum is ever likely to see
  17. I haven't seen Camelot Rosie but I find it hard to believe it's more gratuitous than Spartacus: Blood and Sand
  18. I'll fess up - my playing partner (who shall remain nameless) was too hungover to face lager. The ageing process hits us all
  19. Tackling Norwood wildlife centre pitch and putt course with a few tinnies It's not all posturing and pretention chez strafer, oh no
  20. Mrcheeky. Anywhere in the world you care to highlight as an example of where scum are off the street? Not exactly straightforward... Democracies try it. Dictators try it. Totalitarian regimes try it.
  21. Tarot. I've been in all of those situations. Sorry. Still don't see your logic Double decker trains are great but how typical of you to adopt the martyr "we are not worthy" position and ignore the fact that this country has a different topology. Have you never noticed just how many low bridges there are on the rail networks?
  22. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3366/3565535179_d743120503.jpg another
  23. Here's one David quite a serious one too. I recall others as well
