Petition for the convicted rioters to lose benefits
StraferJack replied to snss75's topic in The Lounge
ah, selective quotation "But people who not only sign this petition but pass it around and make a rare post on here to say what a good idea it is? I?m filing straight in the green-ink bin" is what I said, which isn't quite the same thing But as a general rule? If i was making a first post in any forum I probably would ease my way in so people know I'm not a nutter. Everyone has a voice, but not all deserve the same respect surely? Each voice is only as good as the argument it puts forward -
no-one is excusing anyone. But some people seem to think there may be reasons and if we knew the reasons we stand a chance of prevention. I think the reasons are many and complex and some of the reasons put forward by some people I don't agree with but it is examining why.. that's a good thing. But noone is letting them off the hook Condemnation is fine and good but it doesn't get us anywhere

agree with indie there... the current "crisis" is always the worst ever. The potential looming crisis is never as bad as before because "we have learned from before"

edresi - I can only think you are thought-deficient If someone is rioting and looting you deploy force If someone has commited low-level crime and is being monitored or rehabilitated, you "keep an eye on them" The two scenarios aren't even remotely comparable Criminals exist - what we do with them dictates how best we avoid them repeating. You can;t lock them all up for ever. Even you can figure out the maths on that one right? So some of them have to be released (do you see where this is going?) You can release them and forget about them and hope for the best.. or you can try a bit harder and keep an eye on them If crime rates go up in ED and other areas in the next 5 years, it's more likely because the economy as a whole continues to tank. Not because of the unitrelocating to the area -

does everyone know that? do they? -
More like not accurate enought? You think there aren't young black kids dressed in hoodies living in the ED area? BUt hey you get to climb on the "PC brigade" wagon so off you go They MIGHT be from peckham, ok? The might be from Nunhead or Forest Hill or from Dulwich But sweeping generalisations and assumptions help no-one and antagonise others

WTF is with comments like this? I might have my run-ins with DJKQ but she is definitely around ED, shows her face, gets involved and has been posting on this forum for a fair while. She is definitely not some interloper hiding behind a keyboard -
"why anyone would want to cut and paste anything - be it from the Daily Mail, Guardian, FT or blasted Wikipedia," well that's the truth - but if you know people are doing it, call them out

"In addition there is a snobbery against, for example, the "buggy brigade" in East Dulwich. " I would disagree with that - there are a couple of eejits who bang on about them but I would say most of the "left leaners" on here are very much IN teh buggy brigade As for the more diverse sweep of opinionin recent days, it has largely consisted of "hang 'em/jail 'em/export 'em" - which isn't really that helpful is it? -

"The sporadic outbreaks of disagreement to the board's liberal consensus lasted for a few days, but it looks like the lefties are beginning to regain control" Based on the last few days posts i fail to see how thats a bad thing -
Really Katie? I see people pulled up from time to time. Who have I missed?

we travelled from Gatwick recently and bought formula in the boots after checkin. Hassle free that way -

Out of curiosity, how many people who have read this thread had signed up to that facebook page and have decided a) oops - better remove my name b) yep - don't give a toss -
parent and child spaces in sainsbury's car park
StraferJack replied to dully's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think people are arguing about parking spaces as much as they are about a sense of entitlement "sense of entitlement" - really is the phrase of the times isn't it I also read Loz's post as a slightly acidic but witty response to a non-problem. To get upset or get offended by it demonstrates a thinness of skin I would be alarmed about. "Damnably rude" just seems to be a disproportionate response -

"From Reading the forum in past few months I get the feeling that those who frequent the forum ( yes generalising before I start a rant) are of the left - however as soon as anything happens that may reduce house prices, you all get a bit NIMBY and DaIly Mail" You would be better looking at a poster's individual history to see where their politics (if any) lays, rather than just generalising about the forum. From what I'm reading recently the forum seems full of right-wing nutters. No idea about Summer but when people just have a pop at the left it's a no win situation "I'm left wing and I think the young offenders site is fine" - bloody lefties "I'm left wing and I think the young offenders site is innapropriate" - bloody lefties worried about their house prices Is there a position a lefty can take that won't see them beaten around the head with it? Anyway, this lefty (with a kid) is minded to say young offender unit are better existing than not existing - otherwise what little engagement there is disappears and it's safe to assume we can expect more offending. So if they are better existing, East Dulwich Road is as good a spot as any -
