  1. So, since the phone hacking scandals (and hey, it's back, back BACK today) and with yesterday's speeches from both leaders have people changed there opinion at all?

I've notice that quite a few of the rogue posts in the "about the forum" section should be in the "for sale" section. And tend to come from those people who are rather fond of SHOUTING ABOUT THEIR WARES IN CAPITALS is it because this section is more open to spamming or are some people just very.... you know I mean, few enough peolpe visit this section anyway - so why do the for sale crew do it so often? Just curious... it's no biggie
  3. "it appears the extreme right wing have been drowning out the more > moderately right wing opinions of late." and do remember folks, extreme left-wing opinions are available also I see a pretty decent consensus across right and left wing people on this issue - the intelligent ones anyway. But some of the recent "sign up to have a rant" people, not to mention the endless vox pops on phone in shows scare me as much as the idiots on the streets - i don't think (emotionally) they are that far from cracking and doing something stupid either.
  4. epetitions didn't become any less silly of an idea the moment I started to see some I agreed with
  5. Jasi88 & Judy22 ??
  6. that opening paragraph says it all surely? "OUR leaders have asked for ?shared sacrifice.? But when they did the asking, they spared me. I checked with my mega-rich friends to learn what pain they were expecting. They, too, were left untouched. " But given "The top 10% of earners pay over 50% of the total income tax take ", what's really the problem in asking them to contribute more? Clearly the tax take isn't enough for the country at present - so if a new target were to be established, that 50% would reduce accordingly. Could we say here's how much we want to take - and then decide how affordable that would be for the rich before they felt any pain? This is not to say I want pain to be inflicted btw. Just that it clearly is already, just not by everyone. But surely, if enough people felt like WB, there might be a MUCH simpler way out of the hole we find ourselves in and it's worth asking the question?
  7. I know what you mean Maxxi, but if I'm honest I kind of like the serendipitous nature of the mix at present. It's not like I'm ever tempted to buy anything but segmenting each category feels a bit corporate and lifeless for such a small market Perhaps if it was bigger it would benefit from that approach, but for the 70 or so yards there are, it seems fine
  8. I think his point is, as a wider society, we should expect more from the wealthy. We could rely on philanthropy and people volunteeringto arrange their own affairs, but it should be a top down, expected and reliable calculation And to do that you will hear a lot of "can't be done". (which is something that wealthy people are usually very good at saying "nonsense, find a way") But yeah, it can be done and, like the smoking ban, would happen more smoothly than predicted
  9. that sentence made me think of Murder One - a salutary lesson in how to mess up a good idea to "freshen" things for series 2
  10. Stop coddling the rich.. written by a very rich man indeed Where Warren Buffet basically tells every rich person who bleats " well, i'll just move to another country" or "it discourages me from investing" to grow up, and the people who say that's how rich people will react, "no they won't"
  11. Se?or needs to credit his hicks quotes
  12. Just wanted to say having been (by proxy) part of this club last year it's both poignant and great to see this years' version going strong! re: NCT. I realise I might sound negative about them, but approaching from a maybe-not-everyone-can-afford-them perspective, I just wanted to say the local free classes at ED hospital were great and more than enough to be getting on with. Some of the issues discussed in the classes came to pass and because we had attended, we were able to not panic and realise it was all within "the norm" So don't feel you "need" to
  13. I'd just expand this to say the chance to exist right now in late 20th/early 21st century is, percentage wise, especially lucky. I wouldn't choose any other time (although I would quite like to visit some other periods obviously)
  14. you wanna make something of it Otta??? http://www.darkhorizons.com/assets/0003/0924/cruise_small.jpg?1228364498 nah, all chilled here. but crazy people in wheelchairs in Catford are ten a penny. like riot threads (sorry BB I know you were being light-hearted)
  15. If you must link it to the fekkin riots, stick it in one of the plethora of riot-related threads please before I put something in your water
  16. Flagons?
  17. Matter to you? Or to the Big Wide Picture. If it's the latter why would you care, but if it's the former then pretty much everything should matter do varying degrees. (albeit in a modern video game way where you can take multiple hits before dying so it can FEEL like it doesn't matter - but ultimately it does)
  18. I missed that bit Rosie - maybe he didn't put it in bold, and as I glaze over (in EXACTLY the same way I do watching Fox News) reading his dribbles I must have missed that bit, so good spot I mean - He. Works. For. Blackwater ffs. Which is forgiveable - IF a) he didn't bang on about it and b) at the same time as being an obvious tool
  19. Can't you even fucking pick up lava? Because I can Unusually positive reviews from Zero Punctuation for 2 new XBLA games.. I agree with him on both, but have a real preference for Bastion. It's just... like games they way they were but made now. Otta - LA Noire I intend to check out because I like the location, Rockstar, Mad Men and the concept. But I have a feeling that it is a starting point for a much better sequel
  20. Rick's habit of using bold for the "rats" bit of Democrats isn't clue enough? there are good reasons to not like the Democrats - but choosing The Other Lot? I would say craziness, but they are redefining craziness every day
  21. I think it's more - "if someone has started yet another thread about this topic maybe it's something a bit more interesting this time... oh dear no, it's not, move on"
  22. How is a hardworking bus driver being asked to support them?
  23. "Immigration is a red herring. What we need is a higher proportion of jobs to the available labour force than we have at the moment. And more importantly we need good jobs, that people might want to do for" This. Times 100 Oh and noodle hats? I'm not Brits bs, I'm an immigrant. And I'm calling you out as suspiciously familiar
  24. So when you stop immigrants coming in, presumably you will stop indigenous people leaving the country too? Fairs fair and all that But oops.. That means more people to find jobs for again! Damn. Still, at least they will be British people right?' that's the main thing... Once we achieve that we can be satisfied? Twats
